And this is how the harmonica was born
The jaw harp was the inspiration for the harmonica.
And eventually the piano accordion as well
Is it me or does he look like an older version of the kid from monster house?
Yeah same house Israel destroyed recently of the Palestinians. I need to see that women again who performed in turkey

It's interesting to watch how your eyebrows get into the rhythm too! 😁
Music is a means of conveying emotion and sometimes the emotion comes out of my face. You can also see this in people doing guitar solo and other instrument solo when they are really feeling it.
@@bebbcorpharpery7331 🤣
I've been looking for your channel for the past three years.
Blort Cyplumx I am very glad you found it. If you have any questions let me know and I will get them answered after the fest.
Yeeeessss !!!
Hi from Lyon !
This is a useful technique. I've been doing something like this intuitively by vibrating my diaphragm in rhythm with the plucking, sometimes using a similar mouth technique that you described. I'll watch this a few times over and see if I can match this, it would be a good one to master.
I can't wait to randomly start playing while hanging out with people
Great video, as usual! I do this rhythm mainly by working with my tongue, not so much with the (complicated) breathing. Toodeliedoodelie, toodeliedoodelie, toodeliedoodelie, toodie-dum.
My absolute favorite video of your's, the reason why I got a jaw harp
I just got one want to learn how to play. You make this look a whole lot easier than it really is lol. Hoping to get the basics down soon
So psy trance is from Appalachia?
Dude your really good... Really good. Your videos are super helpful. I'm having fun learning how to play. I'm learning the techniques you are teaching. But I can't bang out that speed to make it sound good lol.
I want to see you make a video playing that funky 2 sting bass of yours.
This reminds me of a conversation I had with a pair of blues-harp players many years ago. I asked them how you bend notes, because I was trying and failing to develop the knack. One of them said, "You kind of blow towards the back." The other guy nodded vigorously. It told ME absolutely nothing. To this day I still haven't figured out the knack of bending notes. It's like skating backwards. No one on this planet has ever accurately described in words how it works. 🙃
When you draw in the note, pretend like it’s a thick milkshake and suck it through a straw. Your larynx should drop.
Let’s first start with the most common question, what harp are you playing. Their are a ton of harp like objects being sold on the internet that will not actually make noise. Beginners get tricked into buying them all the time. So for starters, what harp are ye playin?
@@bebbcorpharpery7331 This makes me assume harmonica.
man I love this style, are there any musical examples or bands to listen to with this style?
That's pretty sophisticated.
A great video....looking forward to getting my first Harp! 🤗 Thanks!
Phil Steadman No problem and good luck on your journey.
How’s your skill now Paul?
It’s 2 am. I have an exam later today. My laptop with the lecture slides is closed and here I am on my phone
I dont even own one of these
@@michaelfierro9 do you recall how the exam went?
@@michaelfierro9 It's been 5 years now. I want to know if you did or didn't bomb that exam!
What is that big shotgun-looking thing on the top of your wall? An instrument?
Slinky Josh That is a reeded mouth bow made by Wayland Harman.
Let's hear it!! :)
Slinky Josh I do have a mouth bow unboxing video. I will also be doing some upcoming videos on it.
+Weslee Zink Possibly d, g, and a.
"Shotgun looking"? What? I don't see anything even remotely looking like a shotgun. I see something that looks like some kind of flat slat of wood with a handle on one end and a different sort of handle on the other end.
I just learned about this thing . I want one now .
Heck out theharpery.com
Ive watched this video probably 20 times now. Still cant figure out the breathing lol
If you will be at the upcoming festival this weekend in Oregon I will be covering this during a workshop. Neptune Chapotin of the band, “Third Pulse,” will be covering it during his workshop as well. Come on down, the fest will be a blast.
My other suggestion is now take a quality harp, (be sure it is not a toy harp,) and begin breathing in a rhythm. Even a simple rythym and breathing pattern. Start very slowly and be conscious of the breathing you are doing. Continue this rhythm, keeping the breathing pattern the same, repeating over and over, letting it flow and roll, gradually getting faster. Continue doing this, but let your rythmn organically happen. If you do this for a week, for at least 3o min a day, by the end of the week, you will be very much surprised. Make a video before you begin this week long practice, then make a video at the end to showcase before and after. You will be blown away by how far you can get into a week.
@@bebbcorpharpery7331 Nice advice I take it !! ;-)
So how would you do some of the sounds from Next of Kin in very opening song?
Phanks a lot , your video are very good they help me so much ! ;)
I am glad that they help. It is wonderful to meet you. How are you amidst the shutdowns?
Jaime,
Woohoo! This is what I've been trying to find. I've learned a lot from your videos - Thank you! I've finally found what I've been yearning for, next = trying to execute same 🤔
Newbie here using a small Potkin...

Yeeee haw! I love Hillbilly Jaw Harp style most. 🤗
joyinjesus The Jaw Harp is a ton of fun. The hillbilly way.
love your vids man, they help a lot! but i was wondering whether this technique is feasable on your worst harp purchase? :p cuz the austrian one is the only one i currently have, which is proving to be difficult on these advanced techniques
Dude, I love the profile pic. I just tried to draw start my alto Austrian, but to no avail. Even with pushing the reed forward and squeezing the frame tighter, I couldn't successfully start the harp. It is just too dull and too largely gapped, with a poor quality reed. I am not saying that it is impossible, and it is quite likely that there are those out there that can successfully do it on this harp. I will do some practicing and see if I can attain this. If I can do it on the worst, then maybe it will grow my skill on the best.
So helpful , thx a lot 👍
Im beginner with a very little jaw harpe , luv it ❤

I guess all that's needed for a forest rave is a jaw harp and a drum.
Hey there, I am just beginning learning the jaw harp, and this technique is really great! Unfortunately, I'm having a difficult time understanding what you mean by getting the air under the tongue/jowls. Are there some preliminary techniques that can help one learn the breathing building blocks for this technique? I find I'm trying to replicate this sound with my diaphragm solely, and it's difficult to do at a higher tempo.
At 0.40, is that a sock fresh out of the hamper?
arie sams It is an old clean sock that I use for wiping and oiling my harps.
Ah, shame, that takes all the character off..
arie sams Yeah it doesn't have the nutrients that it could have.
Top man.
What kind of harp is that you started this video with? It sounded very clear, crisp, and with great resonance. Cool! But you could make a popsicle stick sound great! Great lesson breakdown! On your backwards stroke (goes forward) are you inhaling or exhaling?
Tina Schmidt I am only pulling the reed towards me. No other stroke: I on each stroke I am breathing out, in, out. The harp I am playing is a Bebb.
@@bebbcorpharpery7331 oh cool it's one of yours! I watched the video on how you make these beautiful harps! It was amazing! Are your Bebb harps on your website? I'll check it out again...
They are not on the website. They are custom built by me in my shop. I do have a wait list I am working down. Shoot me a message at The Harpery on FB or at me email at bebbcorp1@gmail.com
Good video
i’m pretty close to having this down now just one question I can’t figure out if you’re supposed to have three different breather like out in and out or if you have a pluck with no breath and then and out in breath. I’m leaning toward no breath on the front but just want to clarify.
It is up to you. Try different things and let the harp decide a bit of where you go. Sometimes it is a journey and not a destination.
This is at an edvanced stage, not a beginner by far 😌
🙀
Can you play along with country with instrument ?
"let's do it slow" 3:45
Still too fast :-P
The hills on the jaw are tiny 3 hills with a tiny t rex hiding behind the hills as the 3rd hill can also be a curl wave
The will of the hills is to roll, then be still until the t-Rex named bill gets his fill of air in his gills
The Sock is a classic touch!
The vocalization is known as the "bum-ditty" and jew's harp is particularly good at mixing in with country instruments like banjo getting really hot ones going. And nobody in country or western calls it jaw harp. .
*jaw harp
What do they call it then? Just a Jews harp?
@Blorox Cleach My Grandpa played, he called it a Jaw Harp too. I've heard them called Juice Harps as well, a misnomer of Jews Harp

@@Dragon-Slay3r What
Iv got a jaw harp you would love to get your hands on
what is the name of that jews harp? (one that you used in this video)
RealSlavicGuy This is my own design of harp. This is one of my untuned harps. This one lands near c2, although I do produce some tuned harps as well.
**cool**
thx
How much does it change the instrument or the the sound by tweaking it. by tweaking it I spread the Jews harp a little wider on a few that I have purchased to help with it not making the clicking noise. I know from less teeth pressure and direction of the finger hitting the trigger must be right. but it seems by only spreading the Jews harp helps a little. Thanks
Spreading the harp will make it less loud and less sensitive. The reed could have been tweaked off to one side or the other. What harp are you using and where did you get it from. That would be the place we would want to start to troubleshoot the problem. Also are be sure to play with the harp resting against the front of the teeth, and not in between them.
So Cool*
Can this be done on the Dan Moi lip jaw harp?
I wouldn’t see why not. Give it a try.
What jaw harp would u recommend for beginners?
Potkin, Glazyrin lighthouse, compass, or wave. Can be found with free shipping here theharpery.com
do you repair Jews Harp? I have 3 with broken triggers.
Message me at The Harpery on Facebook, or my email is bebbcorp1@gmail.com
It sounds like cheeki breeki hard bass
Can you give me an name of the best jaw harp to use in hillbilly breathing (im looking for harp that cost about 20$-33$) Or you could give me a link to it.
+RealSlavicGuy Many good harps do well with this. Szilagyi chancellor harp might be a good place to start in that price range. Tatarstan bass kubyz is another one that is an excellent value in that range.
thanks
So you're basically panting rapidly, in time with your strokes? How do you do this without passing out? I may be doing it wrong because I find the explanations difficult to understand. But from the sound of it, the inhaling causes the rolling sound. However I find it makes me dizzy after a few moments.
It is a deeper breathing. Instead of the shoulders moving up and down the belly should be moving. As far as being lighthearted I would suggest sitting down and riding it out. The jaw harp can alter your consciousness and induce dreamlike states.
@@bebbcorpharpery7331 Thanks for your tip, I'll keep trying. I don't know if it alters my consciousness, but it's relaxing and enjoyable. I noticed it really helps me wind down.
In time with practice it can.

Hey bebbcorp can you tell me the name of the one you used on this video?
@@bebbcorpharpery7331 Very good then! That one with the jester cut on it is that one good for a fast rythem like this? If so can you point me out where to buy it? I live in Switzerland, maybe no shipping here dont know..
A jester is by Romanov Poor Yorrick.
@@bebbcorpharpery7331 One website doesnt ship internationally and the other its very complicated but it seems its out of stock, could you help me get one? Id pay what you ask for it plus any expenses you have shipping it to my adress, would mean a lot
Sounds great, but tune is unrecognizable.. cant bedone ?
pw bassett This harp is an untuned harp that I made myself. It has tight gaps and a flexible reed which makes this easier. Which harp are you playing on? Let us see if we can troubleshoot the issue. If it is a toy harp, you may not be able to do it because toy harps won’t be tight enough to allow you to build back pressure. Also this is not an easy technique and requires patience at first and a lot of practice, but once you get it, it is like riding a bicycle for the first time.
I have watched this video like a hundred times already, but still don't understand how do you breathe or move your cheeks. I would be happy to do it my way, but nothing sounds at least a bit similarly to you
Acid Techno before the TB303 Was made!
I am determined to learn Jews harp but this one is the worst from walmoart. Want to get in key of ????? From Russia. Help;
So turns out my teeth do not like my jaw harp teeth and denture plate 😔. You’re suppose to rest it against your teeth but if I don’t push it hard against my teeth it rattles against them too much. So my only way of doing it it pressing it firm against my top plate of teeth then my bottom lip protecting my real teeth on the bottom. I love my harp so much but I do t think I can play it anymore 😓
Let’s start out with the harp you are playing. It may be stiffer in reed and you can try a more flexible reed one. What harp do you have now?
Hey. What happened. I think that you just broke UA-cam. You're frozen.
Might have just been a glitch from a brand new upload. The video is playing on my end.
Never mind. Nothing broke. I just went back and watched the end of the video. Since it was life, I was expecting to hear something like. "So until next time this is Bebbcorp Harpery signing out" When I heard the music stop I looked up and all that was there was a still image of you. I just took it that your live feed got somehow cut off.
Can pls somebody help me Or translate into german 😫 I don't get this...
That is difficult! I am not sure how to do it, so i just breath in and out very fast, creating that reverberating, but i am not sure if that is what you are saying....
What kind of harp are you playing? This is the first question.
@@bebbcorpharpery7331 Maultrommel for the moment, but i ve got Yamanigan coming up
What is the brand of Maultrommel. Can you provide a link.
@@bebbcorpharpery7331 i suppose it is Schwarz Jews Harp 90 mm, 12 or 14- You see, the harp was just attached to a board, along with other harps of the same make, slightly smaller, most of them, and it came without a box...The harp is sturdy as a horse shoe!
I have not played the Schwartz but from the looks of it, especially the painted ones they might produce very little sound due to their very large gaps. For a harp to make sound the gaps need to have close tolerances.
Did he just clean it with a sock???

I don't get it 😅 my english sucks 🙈
Did he just clean his jaw harp with a sock?
Yes, but it was a free-range organic sock and it was legally harvested with a permit. No other socks were harmed in the making of this video.
@@bebbcorpharpery7331 love that😂
Around the beginning of this video I saw that it looks like he was using a dirty stinky sock with a hole rotted in the heel. To wipe off his jaw harp made me laugh.
It was an old sock that was clean. Hillbilly style.
What's all this about "breathing"? I thought a jews harp just involved a vibrating tongue and the pressure of the jaws. Where does the breathing come in?
Breathing in and out and the rhythm that results are a technique on the harp. Search for my technique tutorial, “Hillbilly Breathing.”
My thoughts at the beginning of the video: "Phff! What does THIS guy know about playing hillbilly style?".. Then he pulls out an old holey sock to clean his harp off.. "Ah shit. Nevermind man, my bad."
If you can’t use a sock to clean something that goes in your mouth, then what is the point of wearing socks.
First off, love the videos but I really appreciate you cleaning your harp with a dirty sock that has a hole in it. Thats hillbilly as fuck!!!
Moshé Patil it is a clean dirty sock. I love to repurpose things. Why buy new rags when we make them all the time.
