I've been playing for a few months and felt like I'd plateaued. This is exactly the technique I've been wondering about. Great video, gives me a new level of noise to work on! Thanks.
I found a snoopy harp at an antique store and bought it on the spot. He sanitized it for me too. I had to get the pliars out and push the forks closer together and it works well. I subbed, im absolutely addicted to weird sounds and sbit. Thank you so much!
@@greatestytcommentator The $10 ones are exactly the options that you do NOT want to buy. They don't make much sound and will likely chip your teeth. You have to go for those that are at least $25 in order to get something that is halfway good and safe to play. Going for the $50 options will be the best choice to get something of actual good quality when it comes to the sound that you get out of it.
this was really helpful! i knew breathing patterns were a big variable when it comes to getting certain sounds out of a jaw harp, but I never figured out how to actually do it. You explained it really well!!

Dope video dude the vibrato effect with breathing is so cool just got mine from Amazon today, love the way it sounds can’t wait to practice this technique!
Dude thank you! Such insight! Thank you for your simple to use idea! I get it! Thank you again! Just starting and didn’t realize that was the key. The breathing. Thank you!

thanks a lot, I just subscribed!!! Been playing with one of these since I saw the Lawrence Glaister video here on youtube 7 or 8 years ago. I just ordered my first couple of "professional" harps today.
@@hiliteharps2160 Very much! Only a few minutes and you complete changed the way I look at this instrument that I impulsively bought haha! I can actually make it function now!
Very functional and quasi-zen-like posting. I am going to check out the instrument. Again. Also, the hat is cool in a tragically accidental hep cat way. I would like to find something almost exactly like that- only different and unique. Thanx.
Bruh! Thank you for this awesome video....i am slowly getting better at plucking without it banging my teeth. I still need to practice on breathing though....i run out of air
Its just takes some time and practice. The more you do it the better you'll get. You'll learn to relax more. You need to breath less heavy than you initially think to make the sounds
All has to do with the sound you're looking for and the type of sounds/rhythms you're going after. The glazyrin lighthouse is an amazing harp for the price point. Small, easy to play, big sound and good base. But first think about what type of playing & sounds you're looking for to guide you towards the right type of harp.
You need to have your mouth open. Put your pinky finger in between your front teeth and keep that as the spacing for when you put the harp on your teeth. The metal reed needs to vibrate freely in/out of your mouth.
No ablo Espanol. But this is where I bought it & who I leaned from instagram.com/ildar_vargan ua-cam.com/channels/Mwgoj9OMby0sb5_vSEJM9Q.html Buena suerte!
All depends on which beginner one you have and what types of sounds/playing your going after. Beginner ones are just fine, but they have their limits, especially when it comes to types of sounds etc. The difference between this harp and my first beginner ones is massive
I ordered that a while ago directly from ildar_vargan on Instagram. But if you Google for that harp there are a few other places you can order it from as well
@@Stickflood It does for sure. Puts extra stress/strain on the reed & can shorten the lifespan. Im pretty sure the magnets do as well as it's extra mass on the reed.
Hey if you see this comment I just wanted to ask what's the name of that exact same jaw harp you're using? What are those little switches on the handles for? I never seen those before
That is the Spiral harp from Ildar Vargan. Those are magnets of different size which change the pitch of the harp. They act as weights to change the rate if vibration of the reed. You can find him on Instagram & UA-cam. All of his stuff is in Russian but I've ordered direct from him. He's a really good guy & PHENOMENAL at playing the harp
@@hiliteharps2160 I really appreciate you telling me this because I only saw one of his videos that were featuring that Joe harp and I thought I could really use that exact same one because of the weights if it's okay with you may you please link me where you could buy that harp? Or at least the Instagram or anything? I'll probably take a look later but I'm kind of interested in buying one

Those ones a pretty basic with limited sound. A huge upgrade but without costing too much would be the glazyrin lighthouse harp.
I have no clue why i watched this... like, i don't even have a jaw harp. lol I just love the noises you can make with it. 😅

I wanna mic this up and add distortion on a mixer track and see if I can make it sound like a Tb303 Acid squelch 🎉🥳

i am very lightheaded
Don't need to breath so hard. You only need a little airflow to make the sounds
How are you not hyperventilating???
Hey does the jaw harp needs to be tuned to create these techno like rhythms to sound like this ? Or can it also be achieved with an untuned one
It depends on the construction of the harp. Different ones produce different sounds.
Is it as easy to Learn Russian than Jaw Harp Tek?
I have a quick question do I need to invest in different jaw harmonicas or should I just stick with the beginner one I have

I learned from watching Ildar Vargan. Outward seems better for faster play I found, but I really have no idea what I'm doing
@@hiliteharps2160 well from what ive heard, playing outward lowers the life spand of the Harp or something along those lines.

Hi sir ! I wanna correct you about something , That is not Russian music instrument , That is an old Turkic one so It belongs to Turkic tradition
They are literally found in every major nation on earth-Hungary, Russia, Vietnam, Italy and many more
Yup, so many cultures have the same instrument since the concept behind it is very simple. It can be make out of wood, bone, etc.
Могу ошибаться, но мне кажется, что даже пингвины в Антарктиде изобрели этот инструмент! И белые медведи на Северном полюсе :)
Yeah, rather good. A little bit more relax your hand and diafragm and would be perfect!
