Man especially the 'missed wins' analysis getting ignored feels bad like clearly those hold a teaching moment. Anyway, regardless, really love the content, grateful for any chess, genuinely, I do wish more analysis but even if there was never another analysis this is some of the best content these days.
Winning a pawn on a4 was the "missed win" as it just wins a crucial pawn, and NL did look at it. There was also a missed win in his earlier game where his opponent straight-up hung a whole rook and NL didn't take it; however, he didn't even analyse that game at all. Honestly, I feel like just missing a hanging piece isn't very instructive. I agree that some missed wins can be very instructive, but this was not one of them.
@@maxkho00 Yeah that's fair, I knew the rook one, which is apparent enough, I was not good enough to recognize/remember the a4 pawn, ty ty. Yeah I mean they're not all created equal for learning but I think there's at least a bit of merit glancing through most, if nothing else some would really push the 'look a bit more' thing.
@@NearoC No problem! Yeah, I agree. Missed wins can often be quite instructive and teach you tactical and positional motifs that you'll be able to re-use in future games, potentially over and over again. Out of all the classifications, missed wins are probably the most instructive, closely followed by blunders.
@Cry Why'd you try to learn from grandmasters instead of a chess coach? Being good at something and being a good teacher of said subject aren't the same.
im not watching for grandmaster level chess play, i'm watching so i can see NLs reaction when he analyzes his losses (impossible, I know) and realizes he missed a hanging rook.
did i yell in frustration when he didn't take the free rook? yes. yes i did. but the laughter that followed was the best i've had in days. thank you for the wonderful chess content, never change NL
@@GrevMarkussen He could've done that same thing at 10:15 but it wasn't that great because the best he could have gotten out of it is a pawn while leaving his king all by itself
@@NorthernlionLP Worse yet, if he took the f7 pawn at the timestamp that you cited, he would just get mated in 2 after Qxf1+. But he could have taken the pawn on the following move and just been up a crucial pawn, emerging in probably a technically winning position.
3:55 Ok, pet peeve of mine for a while. That dark blue exclamation mark denotes that you made the best move in a situation where the best move is the ONLY good move. It's a vital move to find, but often it's also a lot easier to find because it's the only move that makes sense. It's NOT a move where the compute goes "we couldn't think of that ourselves. Really enjoying this series though. Pet peeves are part of the fun. Who wants to review games when the computer is not gonna praise us anyway? Not me, that's who.
It's actually quite rare for someone to have their bullet rating be the highest, I'd say. It's much more common to be strongest in rapid, then blitz, then bullet. Maybe you have better intuition for chess, since you played as a kid, which is an advantage in bullet cuz you have to play fast. Also, as much as everyone loves getting their ego stroked, it's much more important to analyze losses than wins, which you seem to have an aversion to.
My rapid rating is around 1600. I was inspired by you to try bullet for the first time recently. After a few hours of seriously trying to play well, I am rather surprised to admit that I can't seem to push past 850. Congratulations on your high bullet rating. I'm not sure what it means about your chess mind in general that your bullet rating is higher, but clearly you possess some skill I lack.
Please Ryan look at the analysis of the long games where both players make mistakes - thats where you learn and its also my favorite part because so many of your moves gets more context :((
I've said it several times before and I'll say it again, I don't get why NL never reviews the games he loses, surely you learn more than reviewing the games you won
It's also just fun though, and if you were screaming a move into the screen you get a little vindication, or you understand why you're a dummy and the move doesn't work
@@screamingliner getting better is the fun part though. Don't you like want to hit a homerun eventually if you're playing baseball? Instead of relying on blind luck while ignoring all feedback?

My man really just stacked 3 major pieces on a file in front of the opponents king, didn’t calculate the winning attack just because his queen was attacked, and then proceeded to not analyze the game in the slightest. 🤦🏻♂️ literally unwatchable
I like when he calculates 12 moves deep into a line that starts with his opponent hanging their queen, really gives u that good brain melting feeling
1:05 Where he thinks Black has to recapture with the queen LOL
Taking a free rook is not in NL's playbook. He wants to FIGHT for the pieces he takes. It's the beautiful game.
yea lol i was going to say he missed a free rook he could've taken with his pawn. the egg moves in mysterious ways
You can't take the free rook sometimes because you have to keep your opponent on their toes. NL is on some Sun Tzu shit
there is such grace in a game of chess, it makes me cry
I like that NL was “banking on” his opponent blundering his queen in one move in the opening
I love when he was like “he takes with the pawn so his queen still defends the other pawn”. No Nl, he takes with pawn so he doesn’t hang his queen 😂
What's better is if his opponent had taken with the queen he would have forked the rooks instead of taking the queen
@@pancho5003 xQc when he forked the king, queen and rook with his knight and then took the rook

Chess is an underated series on the channel tbh. Wish he was still wanting to stream it, but the analytics there makes sense unfortunately

But lion doesn't take said rook!
that one hurt
🥲
That triggered me
He trusts his opponents too much. They're always hanging their pieces for him!
11:58 That was just painful to watch. JUST TAKE THE ROOK!
