Only in Canada could we take something (that any other country would consider embarassing) and turn it into a totally appropriate gag to start the closing cerimony with. I loved it. Neil - was the icing on the cake to me. When he sang - I cry. Whenever I watch the clip of him; I always cry because it was just so simple, so Canadian. I miss the games - such an incredible time. I hope they come again to somewhere else in Canada so we can feel this way again...
so true
the opening ceremony was for the world.. the closing well that, that was for us.
It has been 10 years!!
It feels like yesterday.
Yeah watching these games on TV in 2010!!!
Let’s go Vancouver 2030 Olympic Winter Games
@@Nathaniel3040 No doubt they could host it again. All the venues are technically there. Maybe a different venue is needed for Curling this time. Add a new Olympic Village, operating costs and you have an Olympics that could happen again without any need for taxpayer expense.
NothingYT I know right? Time is going by so fast.
So nice to rewatch because it being back memories of pre-COVID 😞
I’m an American, and this was no doubt one of my favorite Olympic ceremonies! Well done Canada 🇨🇦
As a fellow American, I can agree! This tops Turin 2006!
Oh Repair Mime. You're my hero.
Anyone here in 2021, watching clips from this broadcast as they simultaneously watch the Tokyo OCs?
i wnt vancouver to host in 2030 so bad, i was 6 in 2010 but been going back and watching a bunch of stuff liek the gol dmedal hockey game. canada is one of the top 4 bids rn
@@kruger.1 dude same!
Lol I loved how they incorporated the glitch into the closing ceremony and even had that construction mime "Look it's up! I fixed it!" I did not see that before lol D:
Also, by having a mime, it sort of eases any criticism of the ceremonies not being French enough.
Well Canadians love their comedy. Seth Rogen recorded announcements for the bus and SkyTrain in Vancouver and while informative they sure were funny!
It was so brilliant how they incorporated the glitch, and gave the torchbearer who missed out on lighting it during the opening ceremonies her chance.
I agree, it started the entire show
@@jasminejohnston6393 and then did some very unfunny ones for the TTC in Toronto
I love that when Jacque Rogge announces that Olympics are over you can hear many audible "Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo's" from the crowd
Sydney had the same feeling too
I swear these games were SOO much fun.
as a kid living in Calgary, when the olympics ended I was so sad and was crying because Vancouver was amazing.
12 years after I still think both this and the opening ceremony of Vancouver were the best ceremony in a long time. Canadians really made two marvelous event, I do hope they get to organize the 2030 Olympics ❤️
This Russian chorus is absolutely awesome. Never heard a national anthem sung with this quality.
Just love how they threw that piece together with the dude and the falty arm of the cauldron. Most Canadian thing ever.
That was the BEST! I love that they made a joke out of it and ran with it. Most other countries would have tried to cover it up, but our Canadian Friends made it work! I'm so happy that Canada is the United States' "Neighbor to the North!"
and I love how RUSSIA has learned with Canada, to make a joke out of technical problems! hahahahaah they did the same in the closing of sochi 2014!
and proved to the world that.... It was the rubber chicken that did it
If you want something else Canadian, Vancouver-related and funny look up TransLink Seth Rogen Announcements that guy’s a hoot and he really did record announcements for Vancouver’s transit system. Imagine riding the SkyTrain and before you hear the voice of Loreen Reagan announcing the next station Seth chimes in with “Don’t wear perfume on public transit”😂
the best part about this...no annoying NBC commentators chiming in with their political opinions or useless ranting every 5 minutes!
#yaasss
Yeah or any stupid rants by Don Cherry I’m glad CBC fired him after he made that stupid rant about Remembrance Day because no one cares about garbage like that...
Closing part is kinda sort of Scott Pilgrims movie
Went here after the underwhelming ceremonies of Beijing 2022. This still warms my heart 12 years after.
One of my favourite parts of the whole olympics was the collective "Awww" when Jacques Rogue closed the games.
I will NEVER forget those 17 days (even if I was only a german TV viewer). This is still impressing me, thank you Canada ! :-)))))
Over a year later and I still tear up everytime I watch these videos. What an amazing show of patriotism from our great country! I have never been more proud to be Canadian.
Almost 10 years ago now wow, what a great 2 weeks those were in my city
Easily one of the coolest closing ceremonies I've ever seen. I love the self-deprecating humor throughout the show (and the giant flying moose balloons), and as a person whose personal Olympic dream is to volunteer, I appreciate the special attention paid to the volunteers. Thank you VANOC for making this video available, even after all this time.
And the mime “repairing” the glitched pillar from the opening ceremony
Love Canadian sense of humour! Canada Rocks! Not many countries can make fun of themselves but we seem to excel at it. So miss the Vancouver Olympics. It was a great party and the friendliness and joy on the streets are unparalleled.
Had to watch the opening and closing ceremonies again! Love how Canadians make fun of their mistakes, then have a very sincere speech and are so welcoming and then party hard all in the same ceremony! Best Olympics ever.

only in Canada would we have over a minute long standing ovation for a gold medal in hockey haha.
The games have came to an end with a glorious Sidney Crosby’s Golden Goal and I’m blessed to be a Canadian for the last 4 years, now 13 years ago in 2023, I’m 17 years old and why am I overthinking and seeing Vancouver 2010 after the games are over??? #nostalgic 😢🥲 The XXI Olympic Winter Games will historically always be a part of me, Vancouver, British Columbia and Canada, always. ❤️🇨🇦 2:02:03
Truly an amazing show and I'm sure it leaves an impact on most Canadians like us :)
@@nintony2994 Exactly. 💙🩵💚
I've watched the entire thing and WOW did Alanis Morissette blow me away. :O
That voice. She's another league.
I love how they symbolized our Humor, Humility and Patriotism.
I am very happy with the Olympics... And honestly i didn't think it would be as good as it was.
Neil Young performing Long May You Run. Truly amazing.
For Canada, this was the greatest Olympics ever. It was capped of by the best player in hockey today, Sidney Crosby, scoring the Gold Medal winning goal against our rivals the US
And the patriotic that was showed from the entire country, across the vast country of Canada. I live in Vancouver, and only people who lived in the city can only feel what was the atmosphere when the games were here. And all I can say is, it was spectacular! I've never seen people glued to their TVs cheering for Canada. And I was swept away with that.
At 0:47, great mix of Glowing Hearts and the National Anthem of Canada. And it's a beautiful mix.
My wife and I went to Vancouver to see some hockey. It was the firtst Ollmpics I've ever been to and the people there were great. So friendly, any local would drop what they were doing to give directions to anyone who asked. They were all amazing representatives of BC and Canada. It was so sad watching the closing on TV after we'd gotten home. Such a great time, something I'll never forget. Thank you, Vancouver!
Very good idea to allow people to see the whole events and ceremonies. Each country always gives its best and show several pieces of their faces and culture. Vancouver's closing ceremony was a moment of joy and the relationship we can have with the nature, in Sotchi in was more emotional. Now we have to wait 4 more years to see what Pyeong Chang will do for South Korea.
i wish i wasnt 5 when these games where happening. ive cried twice now an dits 4 am. I cant stop watching these olimpics now that the tokyo games are over
This is like the best Olympic ever!!! no country can't beat this awesome Olympic! :D 2010 Vancouver Olympic!!!!! :D
The most depressing words uttered in this entire ceremony "I declare the 21st Olympic Winter Games closed"....
blkjock81 I get sad when they say that
You look really hot blkjock81 😍 you got ig?
Yup, that made me depressed!
2:22:13 is when things really get going. And we realize how crazy Canadians are. But that's why we have so many famous comedians.
Desiree M it's still my favourite part of the closing ceremonies, too. So joyously over the top.
God only knows if John Candy would've been a part of it all if he were still alive and well as he too was from Canada. It's a shame Leslie Nielsen didn't show up at the Olympics either before he died a few months later
My favorite part of the closing ceremony was the handover to Sochi.
Brings back all these incredible feelings from 2010. Definitely something I will never, ever forget.
The best part starts, when michael says: please welcome NICKELBACK!!!
A-W-E-S-O-M-E
Vancouver couldn't have ended with a more perfect story line. Canada beating the United States 3-2 in hockey. Canada's sport.
getting goosebumps at the singing of our national anthem
i cried like a baby when the volunteers got the flowers and when furlong said the nice things about us.
Also when the cauldron went out.
THANK YOU 2 OUR GREAT NEIGHBORS TO THE NORTH. PEACE LOVE ALWAYS.
USA
And of course, we can imagine that girl who was denied the opportunity to light the fourth cauldron at the opening ceremony. She must have clenched her teeth when she finally lit the flame.
I loved ballet sequence, Gergiev as conducting part of Tchaikovsky's Patetique Symphony and my favorite Bolshoi ballet dancer Nikolai Tsiskaridze in blue jacket at 1:38:33
Best olympics ever
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
thankyou for uploading the full version in great quality
I loved the part which looked like an amusement park parade / stage show.!! I loved all the balloon floats.!
The conga line at 2:57:54 is the REAL Olympic spirit, people from different nations all having fun and a good laugh together!
I liked how Beijing and Vancouver told a story. And I liked how London's was entertaining and full of energy. They were all awesome. But in the end, I'm Canadian, and Vancouver 2010 will always have a special place in my heart, because there were just so many awesome memories from it.
Great Olympics,Good job Vancouver
It's been a while now and this is as fresh and awesome as the day we watched it. I remember everyone talking about it over the next few days. Just WOW.
ok two things, One: i loved the games, and when Rick Mercer said that the Athletes owned the podium already he wasn't kidding, and two these shots area amazing, whoever was on the teams that shot the cinematography and whoever edited them are amazing!!!
BEAUTIFUL CEREMONY!!!! IS MAGNIFICENT
Loved the start of the ceremony with the fifth pillar rising
@1:30:40 This was the first time (I'm American) I had ever heard the Russian national anthem ten years ago, and I was so impressed by this exceptional performance by their choir delegation that I still have never forgotten it.
And in my experience to this day IMO it remains the best performance of it I've yet heard. Our nations have always had our share of differences, to say the least, but I have to say I think Russia has one of the world's most beautiful anthems.
Well done to the Russian singers (and their conductor as well), and thank you/merci once again to Canada and Vancouver for hosting a brilliant games in 2010! :)
I got so exited then during the Sochi opening ceremony when that train came in and they performed the same song they did at the Sochi performance at Vancouver. It bought me back to some good times.
Let's put it like this:
Beijing had the bigness
Canada had the soul
London had the music
Like it always does.
Sochi had the 'meh'
Rio had the samba
Pyeongchang had the boy band
and Tokyo was postponed.
Ahh the Timelines therefore
@@desimonium totally agree Sochi was one of my least favorite Olympics
@@desimonium Sochi had the Beauty (in my opinion)
now that tokyo and beijing happened..
beijing had the bigness
canada had the soul
london had the music
sochi had the art
rio had the eccentricness
pyeongchang had the history
tokyo had the simplicity
and beijing (again) had the creativity
Well Done Canada! We British marvelled your closing ceremony and we hoped we did an alright job :)
I never thought UA-cam would host a video THAT long!
I love the cauldron fixes its 4th pillar in the beginning LOL
I love Canadians
Wow, Alanis' song is absolutely beautiful. Destined to reign.
The true north strong and free! We are Canadian
The games brought our Country even closer together for the 21st century!!!!
best Olympics ever! It made me feel so proud!.
Nickelback fucking rocked that ceremony!
This is just perfectly camp I LOVE IT!!!
As always, the opening is a celebration of the HOST, the closing is a celebration for the ATHLETES.
Magnificent closing ceremony ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
See in the opening ceremonies we hid our crazy... showed some decorum if you will. Then we cut loose, proud we can have a laugh at ourselves :-) LOL
***** Ugh.. I think I purposely blocked that out.. LOL
Then again I block out pretty much anything having to do with Wayne Gretzky, almost everyone but the politicians in our town does.. Now Walter?... There's a man to admire :-) OK with the exception of the second cauldron lighting I think we did a pretty great job. And that would be in the opening ceremony video, this is the closing.
***** trust me there was no snow it was raining like crazy or at least fr ppl not from Raincouver lol it was a complete washout another Innsbruck 64 episode ahaha u know 09/10 was the only winter in the history of Vancouver we got no snow what timing meantime Al Gores like just u ppl wait lol!!!
Rocker5593 Stop calling it raincouver.....In the past 3 months it has only rained like once!
Johalvancouver yeah when i was at Kits beach, it started raining just all of a sudden lol! no, i know it rains a lot, but the summers are usually ideal not too hot either minus the summer of 2009!!!!!! jeez I'm not making this up i was bout to go to dairy queen on probably 1 of the hottest days in Vancouvers history that summer, horrible idea!!! the lineup went around the block nearly twice it was insane!!!
Omg, Canadians have such a weird sense of humor! I love it XD
Right?! William Shatner, Catherine O'Hara, Michael J. Fox?!? HAHAHAHAHAAA
Such a wonderful games!
C'est vraiment bon et je les écoutes tous les jeux olympiques j'ai trop ça !!!
I was proud to be a Vancouverite and part of these Olympics.
It wasn't perfect, we didn't throw a bazillion dollars at it (Sochi and Beijing), but it was who we are. We bitched, complained, and pulled together and put on a heck of a show. Maybe the last of it's kind (along with London)... the future of the Olympics just doesn't look as bright.
And I still think having Neil Young singing out the flame being extinguished is the best way I've ever seen the flame go out. Bittersweet and proud.
The first olympics I've watched. I missed the Closing Ceremony, but I still thank you Canada for hosting the games!
It was so cool how they gave Katrina Lemay-Doan her chance to light the flame. Classy.
Nickelback's live starts at 2:32:43. you are welcome
seetherp801 thanks!
seetherp801 tnx bro
That's what I came for. Props to you, seetherp801!
seetherp801 thanks bro
I just love this merci
I love my country :D
and i love my city, Vancouver
millions to host the Games; memories=priceless
Really good ceremonies :D. Congratulations Canada, from Lithuania ;-)
Omg, I was there! Good to see it again in 11 yrs.
The year I learned that most of my favorite musicians at the time were Canadian! LOL
The best Olympic Ever!!!
гавно а не олимпиада, в Сочи было лучше...
поддерживаю ! это самая лучшая церемония ! моя самая - самая любимая !
Fun Fact: My older sister was part of this ceremony by being on the team of snowboarders that did the countdown.
perfect closing
2:09:30: that is where William, Cat-something, and Mike do their Canadian speechs. Love it especially the sorry :)
Thx so much for the answers!!!!!!!!!!
This closing looks like the opening ceremony and is far better than some closing ceremonies of summer olympics
Nickelback, Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morissette, Simple Plan, só os top no encerramento de Vancouver 2010. *MELHOR ENCERRAMENTO*
i was in this !!! at the beggining with the ppl with the snowboards xD
thats awesome!
I love that vancouver to start it off
Such a beautiful performance! The performance at 2:22:56 was awesome and so adorable! 😂 By far my favourite Olympic Games yet! I remember watching, I was 10 years old and I felt so proud to be Canadian! ❤️🇨🇦
The best winter games opener or closer...hands down
I loved how they gave Catriona her Olympic Flame moment that she lost out on in the opening. Came here in 2024 to watch!
Олимпиады 2014 Сочи 🇷🇺
Brent Mims is correct about David Atkins magnificent staging of the opening & closing ceremonies for the Sydney and Vancouver Olympics. It's interesting that I find myself watching it again, five years later. It was that special. Also of note too, that the Australian summer Olympics is the only other one that I remember fondly, in that it seemed to come off without any hint of a snag or controversy. While the Chinese Olympic ceremony was quite spectacular in scale, the external controversies seem to always muddy the beauty of the efforts. The simplicity and technical wonder (employing superbly timed & immense laser motion graphics) is mind blowing in the Vancouver ceremonies, and was the first time this state of the art system was used on such a grand scale before an international audience. Sydney & Vancouver - both ebullient examples of enthusiastic showmanship embedding warm memories thereafter.
It's nice to see them relighting the torch for the last time at the Olympics. 😀
Seems they were a little out of sync with flipping the switch. You can clearly see the flame light on the statue way before she actually touches it.
i LOVE catharine o'hara!!!!!!!!!! she's like everyone's dream mother!!!!!!
