I used to be all for Gran Turismo. Played Gran Turismo 1,2,3,4,5 being my last. Bought a second hand 360 last year to play Forza 4. Awesome game. Then I bought the Xbox One S on release day especially for playing Forza 5, 6 and Horizon 3. No regrets.
Still play Forza 5 and love it. I was sad when they stopped sending in-game messages for events. Really regret not having live when Project Cars was free though.

Because this is a Forza stress test I will use a car analogy. It is it like saying a 2015 Lamborghini Aventador outperforms a 2015 Z06 Corvette. Yes, this is true but the Aventador is also 4X more than the ZO6 and you also dismiss all the hard work the Corvette team was able to cram into the Z06 at the price point of that Corvette. You have seen a SINGEL screenshot. Scorpio runs at Xbox quality settings. so low to medium. You can say a rx480 is as good as Scorpio. Also a scorpio will not be cheap. I would say it will cost around 500 to 700$
it is using AMD hardware, most likely a modified RX 480 which known to perform better than gtx 1060 in forza games, so either its on par with 1070 or slightly slower. this game is the best case scenario for scorpio

You know, I think the Scorpio is a good thing for gaming. More powerful hardware means games evolve alot faster and no holding PC back. I mean, imagine how the Witcher 3 would've looked today if it wasn't downgraded to be on par with the Xbox One and PS4? A CDProjektRed DEV even said it himself.

I'm a PC/PS4 fan but am very happy to see the Scorpio come out with beefy specs. Makes competition better and in the end better for the consumer. While I do own a PS4 pro, I actually hope this device succeeds.
XBOX has pretty good exclusives coming too. Like Forza 7, Cuphead, Ashen, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Theives. I'm excited for all of these. Where as Sony only has JRPGs.
Horizon Zero Dawn is another Far Cry from different studio. Yakuza 0 is an open world action game. that game is good. God of War and Detroit is yet to be released. The main gripe with PS4 I have is lack of proper Arcade Racer like Forza and action TPS like Gears. Each and every PS4 game feels like casual and way generic. UC4, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nioh etc. They all feel like some other game with different coat of paint But take, Sea Of Theives, Ori and Blind Forest, halo wars 2. they are unique on their own. there's nothing like these on PS4.
Well as soon as the race starts in that screenshot you will see that gpu usage jump up quite a bit because in that shot there is nothing happening on screen because the cars are just sitting still on the starting grid.

Nice! From what I'm gathering the Scorpio will be as powerful as base Nvidia 1070 but with more bandwidth. Essentially what AMD did was cancel their 490 Polaris, added some customization to the chip, and sold it to Microsoft.
hababacon yes and no i guess, with console optimisation i fully expect scorpio to perform around the same level as a 1070 despite having about 2tflops lower compute performance. Although by the time Scorpio launches, having the equivalent performance of a 2yr old GPU won't seem all that impressive.
I don't know about the ROP or Texture units but I'm assuming at least 32 to match and exceed the PS4 Pro with clock rate increase. I'm assuming 2560 GCNX cores found by 64 shader cores x40 CUs x 1172 x 2 instructions per clock to achieve 6 TFLOPs.
Cmdr Flint Base 1070 is only 6.5 TFLOPS on a 256 bit bus. The Scorpio has more shader cores (2560 compared to 1920), AMD's relatively powerful Async cores, and more bandwidth to feed the cores. With all the customizations the Scorpio is probably faster clock for clock, it's just boost clock of the 1070 gives it the slight performance advantage in 1080. The Scorpio's bandwidth advantage should push the it ahead in 4K.
hababacon probably a better comparison would be the furyX, as much like the scorpio, it has more cores and a higher bandwidth, still in the same ballpark as the 1070 though, since, as you mention, the 1070 will boost up to 2000+MHz thanks to GPU boost and at that clock, it's pushing closer to 8tflops than its base 6.5.
The 1070 will have the advantage at 1080P with it's boost clock but 4K it will probably drop a few frames behind especially in ASYNC heavy titles 4K. The Fury is a horrible comparison, brute force method without optimization and only limited to 4 GBs. I still think the Scorpio GPU is just AMDs 490 with MS customization. I don't know about the ROPs, but the known configuration seem to be similar to the R9 290 but with Polaris cores with MS optimization instead of GCN 1.1/2.

It's clear Scorpio is the best console ever made in terms of hardware, but Microsoft seriously needs exclusives to actually compete. PS4 dominates the market not because it's a better console, but because it has so many exclusives. 4k@60 means jack shit if you only have 3 games.

my issue with ps4 pro and scorpio is there doesnt seem to be any exclusives planned to take advantage of the new hardware. just an upscaling of current gen games. i want to see a scorpio/win 10 game that cant be done on xb1. same goes for ps4 pro.
Perhaps, but they have helped push technology forward. Now that they exist, I believe that PS5 and XBox Two, which are sure to come, will have higher specs than they would have had if the mid generation upgrades did not exist.
Speaking of Forza 6. The Game Mode introduced in the Creators Update fixed the weird stutters of the PC version for me. It's perfectly smooth now. Horizon 3 also does a little better, much better CPU usage across all cores. Windows Store games and their stupid borderless window mode seem to profit a lot from the prioritization.

It was said its at xbone settings, imo realisticaly speaking scorpio will be like gtx 1060 worst case scenario and like gtx 1070 best case scenario depending how well optimised particular game is for said gpu. For example: Games like RoTR it wont surpass gtx 1060 since those prefer nvidia gpu's. In games like Deus Ex: MD or Hitman it will be performing similar to gtx 1070 since those are part of amd marketing team and arent very optimised on nvidia gpu's.
Polygons and pixels my friend, polygons and pixels :D Anyways I never found the "GPU utilization" measurements in things like MSI Afterburner all that useful because by knowing which parts of the GPU are most stressed, we can better access the deficiencies of the graphics hardware. I went through that testing an old Radeon X1600 XT the past couple weeks. In line with the x1000 design philosophy, it has alot more pixel shading capability per it's texture and ROPS pixel rate than equivalent Nvidia chips of the time, and nailing down optimal settings in games can be a pain. Anyone interested in the Radeon X1600 XT can check out my channel (shameless plug)!

so, he'd be surprised to see horizon 3 running at 4k 60fps because it does a lot more than the regular forza engine. Ok. that's fine. but these games are going to super sample down to 1080p, if I'm not mistaken. so that means no 60fps versions of games in any resolution? this is something they need to clear up. 30 fps (and no more exclusives, honestly, as they're all going to pc) is exactly why I'm looking to move from xbone to pc.
While there's little chance I'll actually buy one of these, because I already have a PC, I've got to say that I'm impressed. If they keep the price within reason, this might start bringing Xbox back. I hope it succeeds. Competition helps everyone, no matter your platform of choice.
You know what I'm really starting to get tired of? Is hearing people saying that Xbox needs more exclusive, exclusive or not consumer friendly. I wish there was no such thing as exclusive and that I could use whatever gaming platform I want and have access to all the games I want.
Exclusives are important because they give competition to companies, i mean if it wasn't for exclusives how would a console sell more than the other? If Sony for example founds a studio and pay them to develop a game they are in their right to make it a exclusive. It isn't just a coincidence that Sony's and Nintendo's games are extremely good and highly praised and alot of times they are nominated for GOTY, they are this good because they need it to compete, they can't treat gamers like EA, Ubisoft or Activision, they need to give gamers the best gaming experience in order to succeed and because of this we get amazing games that otherwise we wouldn't.
Hopefully that extra overhead brings higher resolution textures and smoother shadows. What looks good in 1080p can look bland in 2160p if higher textures and smoother shadows aren't brought with it.
I'm a Sony fan and this is amazing for two reasons. 1 because Microsoft have broken the barrier that consoles were thought not able to achieve and 2 because Sony now has to respond so I guess we all win. Gotta love competition.
Why does PC still have better Anti-aliasing, motion blur and texture quality though? Seems weird. But then again 4K 60fps is pretty hard to achieve without downgrading the graphics.

Sorry MS you are selling snakeoil here. 1. Forza Apex has dynamic resolution. 2. The GTX 1060 is running MSAA, the Xbox is running EQAA. EQAA is edge AA that is very cheap. That makes the Digital Foundry comparison a fraud. Scorpio is a 4k lower setting 30 FPS console just like a RX 480/GTX 1060 and a 70 dollar Pentium CPU. Microsoft and unethical press are selling this as a 4k 60 FPS console. Hey MS how about you show Witcher 3 running at 1080p 60, before you have paid off press sell fairy tales about 4k 60.
I'm a PS4 PRO owner and a 4k tv hdr. I want Scorpio anyway! Finally we'll be able to play Quantum Break and Gear of Wars in 4k without performance issues!!! Take my money👍 Hope they will insert HDR also into the games.

Wow with heavy optimization the XBOX Scorpio can run a lightweight racing game a bit better than a RX 480? It's probably going to cost around $550 (not even $600 would surprise me with the amount of customization and effort that went into the system), for which you'll be able to build a better or equal performing PC, especially in December with the R3 chips and the RX 5XX refreshes. Ultimately it won't sell well due to the high price and third parties won't take the effort to fully optimize their games, resulting in worse than possible performance most of the time.
I'll admit I took it too far there, but the point is it's generally well optimized and much less demanding than most other AAA titles, and it's not a good measure of performance to come, as said at the end of the video.

While it took very little time to port over and that's impressive in it's own right, don't expect a huge performance boost at all. I was referring to the end product which will ultimately perform a bit better than a slightly OC RX 480.

Even though I love my PS4; this is close to having a next gen system. I think this will be a must buy for PS4 and XboxOne owners. The fact that the price will be 499$ is shocking; I thought it would be near 800$; this is definitely a great deal on hardware. Personally I think this is the first generation where gamers should buy both systems if they can afford them.

Obi Wan xbone scorpio is roughly 6 tflops, which means a downclocked 1070. its more on par with overclocked rx 480. gtx 1080 is 9 teraflops and up.

it is using AMD hardware, most likely a modified RX 480 which known to perform better than gtx 1060 in forza games, so either its on par with 1070 or slightly slower. this game is the best case scenario for scorpio

I'm a PC/PS4 fan but am very happy to see the Scorpio come out with beefy specs. Makes competition better and in the end better for the consumer. While I do own a PS4 pro, I actually hope this device succeeds.
XBOX has pretty good exclusives coming too. Like Forza 7, Cuphead, Ashen, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Theives. I'm excited for all of these. Where as Sony only has JRPGs.
The thing is though all of those will be on PC too and Sony has way more than just JRPGs but sure those too for many tastes.

Horizon Zero Dawn is another Far Cry from different studio. Yakuza 0 is an open world action game. that game is good. God of War and Detroit is yet to be released. The main gripe with PS4 I have is lack of proper Arcade Racer like Forza and action TPS like Gears. Each and every PS4 game feels like casual and way generic. UC4, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nioh etc. They all feel like some other game with different coat of paint But take, Sea Of Theives, Ori and Blind Forest, halo wars 2. they are unique on their own. there's nothing like these on PS4.
Well as soon as the race starts in that screenshot you will see that gpu usage jump up quite a bit because in that shot there is nothing happening on screen because the cars are just sitting still on the starting grid.

Nice! From what I'm gathering the Scorpio will be as powerful as base Nvidia 1070 but with more bandwidth. Essentially what AMD did was cancel their 490 Polaris, added some customization to the chip, and sold it to Microsoft.
hababacon yes and no i guess, with console optimisation i fully expect scorpio to perform around the same level as a 1070 despite having about 2tflops lower compute performance. Although by the time Scorpio launches, having the equivalent performance of a 2yr old GPU won't seem all that impressive.
I don't know about the ROP or Texture units but I'm assuming at least 32 to match and exceed the PS4 Pro with clock rate increase. I'm assuming 2560 GCNX cores found by 64 shader cores x40 CUs x 1172 x 2 instructions per clock to achieve 6 TFLOPs.
Cmdr Flint Base 1070 is only 6.5 TFLOPS on a 256 bit bus. The Scorpio has more shader cores (2560 compared to 1920), AMD's relatively powerful Async cores, and more bandwidth to feed the cores. With all the customizations the Scorpio is probably faster clock for clock, it's just boost clock of the 1070 gives it the slight performance advantage in 1080. The Scorpio's bandwidth advantage should push the it ahead in 4K.
hababacon probably a better comparison would be the furyX, as much like the scorpio, it has more cores and a higher bandwidth, still in the same ballpark as the 1070 though, since, as you mention, the 1070 will boost up to 2000+MHz thanks to GPU boost and at that clock, it's pushing closer to 8tflops than its base 6.5.
The 1070 will have the advantage at 1080P with it's boost clock but 4K it will probably drop a few frames behind especially in ASYNC heavy titles 4K. The Fury is a horrible comparison, brute force method without optimization and only limited to 4 GBs. I still think the Scorpio GPU is just AMDs 490 with MS customization. I don't know about the ROPs, but the known configuration seem to be similar to the R9 290 but with Polaris cores with MS optimization instead of GCN 1.1/2.

Perhaps, but they have helped push technology forward. Now that they exist, I believe that PS5 and XBox Two, which are sure to come, will have higher specs than they would have had if the mid generation upgrades did not exist.
Speaking of Forza 6. The Game Mode introduced in the Creators Update fixed the weird stutters of the PC version for me. It's perfectly smooth now. Horizon 3 also does a little better, much better CPU usage across all cores. Windows Store games and their stupid borderless window mode seem to profit a lot from the prioritization.

It was said its at xbone settings, imo realisticaly speaking scorpio will be like gtx 1060 worst case scenario and like gtx 1070 best case scenario depending how well optimised particular game is for said gpu.
For example:
Games like RoTR it wont surpass gtx 1060 since those prefer nvidia gpu's.
In games like Deus Ex: MD or Hitman it will be performing similar to gtx 1070 since those are part of amd marketing team and arent very optimised on nvidia gpu's.

Anyways I never found the "GPU utilization" measurements in things like MSI Afterburner all that useful because by knowing which parts of the GPU are most stressed, we can better access the deficiencies of the graphics hardware. I went through that testing an old Radeon X1600 XT the past couple weeks. In line with the x1000 design philosophy, it has alot more pixel shading capability per it's texture and ROPS pixel rate than equivalent Nvidia
chips of the time, and nailing down optimal settings in games can be a pain.

Exclusives are important because they give competition to companies, i mean if it wasn't for exclusives how would a console sell more than the other? If Sony for example founds a studio and pay them to develop a game they are in their right to make it a exclusive. It isn't just a coincidence that Sony's and Nintendo's games are extremely good and highly praised and alot of times they are nominated for GOTY, they are this good because they need it to compete, they can't treat gamers like EA, Ubisoft or Activision, they need to give gamers the best gaming experience in order to succeed and because of this we get amazing games that otherwise we wouldn't.
You have an overly simplistic view of how things work. Most exclusive games wouldn't exist if they weren't exclusive.
Hopefully that extra overhead brings higher resolution textures and smoother shadows. What looks good in 1080p can look bland in 2160p if higher textures and smoother shadows aren't brought with it.

Sorry MS you are selling snakeoil here. 1. Forza Apex has dynamic resolution. 2. The GTX 1060 is running MSAA, the Xbox is running EQAA. EQAA is edge AA that is very cheap. That makes the Digital Foundry comparison a fraud. Scorpio is a 4k lower setting 30 FPS console just like a RX 480/GTX 1060 and a 70 dollar Pentium CPU. Microsoft and unethical press are selling this as a 4k 60 FPS console. Hey MS how about you show Witcher 3 running at 1080p 60, before you have paid off press sell fairy tales about 4k 60.

It's probably going to cost around $550 (not even $600 would surprise me with the amount of customization and effort that went into the system), for which you'll be able to build a better or equal performing PC, especially in December with the R3 chips and the RX 5XX refreshes. Ultimately it won't sell well due to the high price and third parties won't take the effort to fully optimize their games, resulting in worse than possible performance most of the time.

While it took very little time to port over and that's impressive in it's own right, don't expect a huge performance boost at all. I was referring to the end product which will ultimately perform a bit better than a slightly OC RX 480.

Even though I love my PS4; this is close to having a next gen system. I think this will be a must buy for PS4 and XboxOne owners. The fact that the price will be 499$ is shocking; I thought it would be near 800$; this is definitely a great deal on hardware. Personally I think this is the first generation where gamers should buy both systems if they can afford them.
