Thanks for the review. I test drove this car last week and I bought one! I bought a 2 tone, 2019 Toyota C-HR XLE. In the 2 tone paint scheme I got, the car looks stunning but the 2 things that really made me feel good about forking over my hard earned cash was (1) the legendary "Toyota quality" and (2) the safety features. Point, blank I want a car that will out last my warranty and Toyota's do that. Just one example of that quality is the CRT transmission. While other car companies such as Honda and Nissan use cheaply made outsourced transmissions that can fail after 80,000 miles, Toyota makes their CVTs in house and had 20 years of CVT building experience starting from their Prius. I actually got a great 6 year bumper to bumper warranty with my car. The safety features and tech in this car are OUTSTANDING! No other car offers the safety and tech the C-HR offers at this price segment and when it comes to my family, safety is important. Also love the 3 drive modes, "Normal", Sport" and "Eco". For those who quickly dismiss this car as slow, try "Sport" mode. It will not turn it into a Supra, but it is more aggressive off the line. I am also adding some Toyota TRD performance parts available to further enhance the stance and performance of my car. Again I LOVE this vehicle!
@@thundergato84The LE trim is nice but I have to tell you the extra features in the XLE such as the 18" alloy rims, blind spot detector, push button start and motorized side mirrors with puddle lights really make it feel special if you can swing it.
Wow. Nice. I ordered this car saturday and will be out coming wednesday for all the processing. Can't wait to drive it. I bought this because its practicality sending my kids to school and work. I pity my lexus for having long mileage since my SUV broke down last month and hve to sell it for this crossover.
I like sporty on the outside and not sporty on the inside. I don’t travel, in town driving only. But every model should have a 6 cylinder option. This is the most sporty , unique beautiful car I’ve seen in years!!! We are short people, and I don’t have many passengers. My car, I pay for is for my comfort and enjoyment. Love this car.
I own this vehicle and honestly I don’t think this would be a good car for a family. Great for a single person or an empty nester. I don’t find the performance of this vehicle any more lackluster than other four-cylinder 2 L non turbo engines. And definitely has more room than buying a Civic or Corolla. The HRV looks super boring inside and out, and Mazda or Hyundai let’s face it not going to last you nearly as long a Toyota. This car definitely has more of a sporty feel than anything else in this category and drives very nice. I also like Toyotas CVT for a 4cyl engine it’s extremely smooth, you’re not constantly hearing a transmission that sounds like a sewing machine trying to find gears like other 4 cylinders. I think as long as you know what you’re buying you’ll be extremely happy with this vehicle if you’re looking for a suped up roadster this isn’t it.
I am waiting for 2020 Toyota CHR because it will be midcycle refresh and it might have updated engine from Corolla Hatchback with 168 or 169 HP with new first gear launch control CVT. I will have to wait until Summer 2019 or August 2019. I cant wait to get 2020 Toyota CHR instead. Stay tuned. Thank you Toyota.
Needs a 6-speed manual and 200hp engine, and I'd be all over it. As it is, the fuel economy for the size and power along with so-so storage capacity and poor rear visibility just doesn't make much sense save for the attraction to the cool styling.
I have owned a 2019 C-HR XLE and get 30 mpg. Acceleration isn’t an issue for me. I owned a 2016 Highlander XLE beforehand and find the C-HR is a lot more fun to drive.
I am disabled and this car is easy for me to get in and out. It climbs the very steep snow covered driveway to my rural home. It has great road manners and cornering and with ice tires it is secure on winter driving conditions in Alberta. It has sufficient acceleration for the way we drive up here in Canada as any more would dump one into the ditch from icy roads for example. Toyota builds a car for dependability and the vehicle is very quiet and the sound quality of the stereo is good with all of its safety features. Note it has different handling characteristics when switching from sport to eco which is very cool. Its suspension is sophisticated and the chassis is wider than expected for a subcompact so Corning is marvellous and a tight U turning is a surprise. The rear video is good for backing up. We all love this car from ages 30-78 so all bases covered.
I love this car. This car is mainly for single people, couples with no kids and empty-nesters. Big difference from driving a large or regular SUV. I wanted a compact stylish coup and found this one. I can park it anywhere.
This comes with full stop to go dynamic cruise control baseline. It is a awesome feature that is normally only on expensive upper trim models. It has a lot of quality of life features that make it probably the best commuter car for the price (especially for places with heavy traffic).
A perfect car for me. I value the look, and fuel economy. I used to have a VOLVO V50 T5 AWD, with 220 HP, but it pulled 1.1 liters per mile (Swedish). It cost almost 3 times more to drive. The only thing I miss is AWD.
#4 on your list, but #1 in reliability... Toyota CHR = Made in Japan Honda HRV= Made in Mexico Hyundai Kona= Engine and transmission made in China Mazda CX3= Made in Mexico
I've had my 1.8l hybrid since the end of Feb and love it! In my last car ( a 1.2l Skoda Yeti) i was averaging 35-40mpg so far the best i've had my my CHR is 80.1mpg! Typically i would spend £25-30 in fuel every 2 weeks, since Feb it's gone down to around £15 for 2 weeks. not had any problems with speed issues lol if anything to stop me getting speeding tickets i tend to drive in eco mode as i do have a heavy right foot lol and if i want to annoy boy racers at traffic lights then i put it into sports mode :D :D :D lol
Dave, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport.... Great 4wd. better acceleration. more room and lower price with Android auto and apple car play. Way better warranty. Better price. Styling refreshed for 2020.
You hate the toyota brand. That's not the presentation is a defamation of toyota brands. I have a c-hr and it's not the way you say it is a reliable car, small consumption, good endowment, quality interior ....
I was looking at buying one of these. The curves are beautiful eyes catching feature. However after doing some research looks like it lacks a lot. I'm not a speed demon so that's not a factor but I hear ppl complaining how slow it is. I'm still intrested in this car the 2020 model will make or break my decision
For me and my needs, this car would do just fine. I like the styling of it, just wish it had AWD, if for no other reason than it looks like an off road vehicle.
Gus Martin Toyota makes some odd decisions like moonroofs being available for the Canadian market but not in the US on certain of trim levels of their trucks...very odd.
For sure! I live in Japan and do own a C-HR GT, with AWD and a 1.2 turbo engine. It's preppy enough, and handles so smoothly. I was surprised at some of the corners you can take with this car. I had a ND Miata before the C-HR, and am not disappointed with it. Wish they had brought the Turbo AWD to america, though, if only to raise its popularity.
I've been considering this car for 2 years now (trying to move from my '07 Mazda6) but no AWD kinda sucks (New York), specially if it's not gonna be fast. I guess I'll wait for the 2020 version.... Otherwise, I'll just move to a different car :P (that happens when you are single and got no need for a huge SUV)
My wife just got a 2019 Limited. Fully loaded. It is painfully slow, but personally (and obviously) we thought it was best in class. The HR-V is hideous and she just couldn’t wrap her head around it despite its practicality. The Kona was strong, but again she didn’t like the styling. My favorite was the CX-3, however the Mazda is tiny, lacks Apple CarPlay, and was more hatch than crossover in seating position. Finally none of those care are better equipped then the C-HR as far as safety features go. And none of them are as well put together or use better interior materials. Seriously, material quality in the C-HR Limited is punching well above it’s $30,000 price point. At least in the front row. We cross shopped an interesting group of cars before getting the C-HR including the XC40 (almost purchased if the Volvo dealership didn’t try to steal our down payment loosing our trust... but that’s another story), VW Golf, Toyota Camry, and Regal TourX (I told you, it was an interesting group). But the C-HR holds its own against those cars in the material quality department which was very surprising! In fact, the Regal TourX was actually slightly worse. All in, I don’t love the C-HR, but I see why my wife loves it. It’s a good car and carries her and our daughter comfortably for now. In a few years we’ll look back at the XC40 or new RAV4.
Thank you so much for your review. I looked at the CHR and the Kona.....You said it perfectly, The features in the CHR don't compare to the Kona, but I'm sold on the look/style. Its a head-turner (is that bad to admit it).....I think I have to go for style. It is so different.
not had any problems with the speed with mine, if anything i tend to drive most often in eco mode because i tend to have a very heavy right foot lol when i need the speed i use either normal or sports mode
Toyota CHR 2018 may not suit to everyone taste. In Australia, Toyota CHR only available in 1.2 Turbocharged Petrol engine. The models are either 2WD or AWD. I have KOBA AWD, it's slow but I don't care about it, just to get me from point A to B.
in Europe we have only 122hp version at the top... on the other hand, the Hyndai Kona has an 1.6 TGDI engine with 177hp, in the same size and overall class and price range...
Don't care about the power or whether it has poor visibility or not. The only thing I wish this vehicle would have is better fuel economy. At least 35 to 40 miles per gallon.
we are not this times about massive acceleration ,because of fuel prices ,but we must care about economy ,on mine CHR Dynamic hybrid 2018 consumption is max 41 mpg , but in best is 72 mpg !!! 😉
I have a Toyota corolla 2018 and the back seat it's way bigger than this one 4 people can perfectly fit back there, so I was thinking about getting it next year cuz it is cute but I don't now cuz he is saying he doesn't like the way it drives, I've been in the back seat and I felt suffocated cuz of the little space and the windows are not big enough I felt like a sardine in a can😫 of course I'm never going to be in the back seat cuz I'll be driving it but I Don't know should I get something else from Toyota ??? Any recomendations??
It's the Toyota Juke. I can get over the styling but those blind spots & the overall meh size of this. As usual other markets get far more engine choices to make up for the pathetic performance. BUT this was tuned for the Nürburgring.
They need to put the base Camry engine in this to make it interesting. Also, something should be done about the poor rear visibility ! Did you know that this car is built in Turkey ?
I like this over Honda because it has bsm and acc where Honda Hrv doesnt have bsm and if you want Hyundai Kona with those options you have to pay a lot more money for it then this in EXL trim and lets face it once you buy Hyundai you have underdog Toyota and Honda are both auto makers that i choose over Korea :))
I am here to find a new subcompact yet all these negative reviews by you sir. Why buy this car if you will carry tons of loads. You must buy a truck or so. And why buy this if you want super fast car just buy sports car duh. That's why we're here because we want to see the car's worth for daily use not how fast or how big. You are not doing your reviews right
Dave Erickson Media My apologies. I come to your channel for the car reviews (which are always well done) not to make snarky remarks about clothes. Once again, I’m sorry.
Android auto is terrible, I have it in my Nissan leaf and I absolutely hate it, the operating system let alone the graphical user interface is garbage. the fact that you don't want a car because it doesn't have Android auto concerns me LOL...
I have two kids 12/10, they are tall for their ages, but they got submerged in that back seat, and the back windows are too small, they feel claustrophobic in there, no view at all. Awesome exterior, but this car means a tough trip for kids every time. This car it's not family oriented.
I am gonna buy it here in europe, but I am waiting for apple car play. I cant wait. I drove the 2018 model and it is very slow accelerating, but if I ewanted speed I would have kept my merc or bought an even faster coupe merc. I do hate that its 2019 and it still has manual car seats at the front, but the car has so many extras I can give up the electric front seats
Evidentemente, no es un coche pensado para correr. Es para los que estamos concienciados con el medio ambiente, buscando bajos consumos y bajas emisiones. Para eso, es el coche perfecto. Un saludo.
IMO very accurate description of the C-HR. I would disagree with it being compared to the Mazda Cx3, and say it's more like the cx5. While it doesn't have great get up and go, it has enough for you to merge with traffic. I unfortunately have the 2018 XLE, so no infotainment system. Another drawback is, at least on the 2018, no automatic locking doors. I test drove both the C-HR and the RAV4. While i did like both, the C-HR won out because of its looks.

What about the Kia Soul for this segment comparison
I wouldn't buy it only because it is a Kia.
@@AAAAAAAA67890 that's your choice, but a lot of people are interested in Kia's, so is still a worthy comparison.
I chose the Corolla hatchback over this when I bought my new car 3 months ago.
Doesn’t it not have sports mode?
How could Toyota trade the Venza for this? 😞
The only true performance C-HR is the hybrid.
It's the Toyota Juke. I can get over the styling but those blind spots & the overall meh size of this. As usual other markets get far more engine choices to make up for the pathetic performance. BUT this was tuned for the Nürburgring.
I like the exterior but when I get inside, it's smaller than my Corolla.
They need to put the base Camry engine in this to make it interesting.
Also, something should be done about the poor rear visibility !
Did you know that this car is built in Turkey ?
so it's going to blow up if I get too close to a synagogue?
What about the subaru crosstek?🤔
In Japan we have 1.2 Turbo and it's great"
This car need 3 things - better engine (since acceleration suck), panoramic sunroof and TRD bodykit.
27 mpg is lacking?
I love your reviews and subscribe to watch new vehicles that come up
Love the intro music.😀😉
You put four people in the vehicle a.c. on it will become very slow looks great needs all wheel drive and way more hp an torque
Hey I love the video well done honestly but 4:48 WHAT ARE THOSE!!! LOL
4:49 what are those!!!? JK always love your videos man
I like this over Honda because it has bsm and acc where Honda Hrv doesnt have bsm and if you want Hyundai Kona with those options you have to pay a lot more money for it then this in EXL trim and lets face it once you buy Hyundai you have underdog Toyota and Honda are both auto makers that i choose over Korea :))
It’s not very aerodynamic, I have the 2018 and if the wind is over 5mph you can feel it and fuel economy goes down. :
4WD does not make a car sporty if there is no engine to back it up
Toyota'αs version of a mivi murano -needs more hp murano has a v6and a smoother CVT.
Is juke in this segment?
What about the Jeep Compass?
I am here to find a new subcompact yet all these negative reviews by you sir. Why buy this car if you will carry tons of loads. You must buy a truck or so. And why buy this if you want super fast car just buy sports car duh. That's why we're here because we want to see the car's worth for daily use not how fast or how big. You are not doing your reviews right
I don’t get why guys wear sandals and socks. That doesn’t make sense to me. Either bare feet or shoes. Make a choice!
Omen I made my choice for me.
Dave Erickson Media My apologies. I come to your channel for the car reviews (which are always well done) not to make snarky remarks about clothes. Once again, I’m sorry.
Why do you care about what strangers do as far as their apparel preferences?
Love 💕 the car hate the lack of power Nd NO sunroof 🤔🤔🤔why
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THIS CAR IS ZIPPY FAST! WE JUST TEST DROVE ONE!
Eh I went with the Subaru Crosstrek.
its sad how this car looks waaaaayyyy too much like a 2006 toyota matrix on the inside. not really getting a sense of INNOVATION from this car
Does it have a CD player?
my UK C-HR icon 1.8l hybrid has no cd player but you can connect phone etc via aux/usb or use a usb drive
I wish it came with Android Auto. I'll have to look at Honda. Honda offers both CarPlay, and Android Auto.
Android auto is terrible, I have it in my Nissan leaf and I absolutely hate it, the operating system let alone the graphical user interface is garbage.
the fact that you don't want a car because it doesn't have Android auto concerns me LOL...
I will replace my radio with Navigation
Put a twin turbo she'll get up
The Backlights looks like the Honda Civic Type R ☺
Looks like a car for a young adult to drive. The exterior looks far too busy for me. I think Toyota make a mistake in this model.
In other words if you like driving over the speed limit and racing around other cars dangerously, you don't want this car 🙉
this car build for big city ! If you want comfortable and powerful then buy American crocodile !
"you can use calendar to clock it..." LOL
All these cvt haters! Get a freaking life.
Un saludo.
i love style but i need more power
Not AWD........
I would get the ford ecosport if i was in the market for a sub compact crossover.
Better off with an AWD Prius!
The 2020 has AWD
Renegade..???
I have a 2019 ch-r an I have replaced the tires 3 times..an I don't even have 40,000 miles on my car.. an they keep saying that is normal..😤😤😤🤬🤬🤬🤬
mpg is very bad very heavy and no power
Sounds like a 1995 neon
Sad my 09 xB is better.
Man, your interviews are getting too negative !!!!! You are getting too hard to watch!!!
MOLAROIS MORAIS LOL I love your sense of humor!
@@everymandriver
