    Thanks for this video. This answered one of the questions about the SSD that you are using and this was the only source with an answer. Good luck.

    When ever I watch a video I always take it with a grain of salt, and always check the comments because that is where the truth comes out. I will say that Garrick is 100% accurate and spot on with his assessment with what he presented. Want to get more storage...this is the way to go.
    Personal experience.
    2023 iMac 24" 24GB RAM 1TB internal drive
    Acasis TBU405
    SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe Gen 4

    * If you feel you need a fan, the TBU405Pro M1 has one built in for a higher price.

    I did this with a slight detour. You only wanted external storage, I wanted an external boot drive for a 2023 M2 Mini. Same reason tough, not enough storage. What you did I had priced these days (2 TB SSD) at $275. I found an external drive from Tekq, ready to go, for $175. It’s a little slower at 2500 MB/s r/w but fine for me. The case is aluminum & finned. I think your Acasis is also a fine external case. The only thing I don’t have stats for is TBW (TeraBytes Written).

    I recently bought an acasis enclosure think mine was an older version with clip lid and rubber screw to hold nvme in. I inserted a wd black 4tb inside it. The access speeds are instantous, saying that my 4tb samsung evo 870 2.5 ssd was really fast. I certainly think nvme is lightening fast, and copying large files is a breeze. My only advice is back it up, I bought a 4tb seagate eco touch platter drive for that purpose, very slow compared with ssd and nvme, but very reliable for archiving.

    Great Vid! Refreshing to see a nice informative pace unlike those chopped up rushed vidoes spewing chatter like they're on crack. Keep it up! Question, I noticed the SNN770 is rated at 5100mbps but your test say 2700mbps. Is there a way to get max speed on these external cases. Ex: I'm running a crucial rated @ 7000mbps along with a 40gpbs thunderbolt 3/4 case....I get the same results as you. (Mackbook Pro M1 Max 16"). Your thoughts would be appreciated.

      Thanks for the feedback!
      As for the increasing the speeds, the SSD would ideally be best installed directly on the mother board. These additional connections (enclosures, USBC cables and etc) slows down the connection speed. I hope this input helps!

    • @TheSterlingMan
      @TheSterlingMan 7 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the response, yeah I guess I was wondering if they're making a ssd rated at 7000 Mbps why are there no external enclosures to support it. But your answer brought me clarity, it seems we're not there yet. However in an internal environment installed on the main board it's doable. Thanks!@@garrick_ish

      @@TheSterlingMan Mac's Thunderbolt (USB 4.0) limits speeds to about 2700 MBPS. Apple could bypass this by allowing direct connections for external SSDs and RAM to Minis and Studios, but opts not to, pushing for newer purchases as internal hard drives become obsolete. Continuous OS updates with higher requirements also drive the cycle of frequent upgrades. If machines were upgradable, they could last 15-20 years, benefiting consumers and the environment, but reducing company profits.

    Great video mate! Now for my question. Why didn't you choose an external casing with a fan built in? Some of the Gen4 NVMe's get pretty hot and active cooling would work better than passive. Also, I have seen with some NVMe drives, they will disconnect and reconnect repeatedly when they get too hot, making them unusable. Just a thought...
    Keep making those videos and I'll keep watching. Have a good one and be safe out there...

      Unfortunately the m1 max supports up to usb 3.2 gen 2, not the usb 3.2 gen 2 x2 needed to unlock the full speed of the x10. So you'll cap at about 1050
      You can only get higher speeds using actual thunderbolt nvme enclosure
