The actor that played Sharif's father (Sharif) explained in the movie the process of how Sharif changed ...."You know Sharif use to get into all types of @#$%...if Allah can make a better man than Jesus can..." I don't think the issue with 2Pac was about the character. I think he wanted more screen time and he wanted to Hughes brother to shed more detail in the script which would be beneficial to his acting career because he would be more visible in the film. After being one of the main guys in Juice, he didn't want to take a smaller role.

We saw Pac go from heartfelt 'Keep Your Head Up' to later switching it up to the gangster street shit. I don't think the Sharif character would've been a stretch for Pac. He could've went into his aggressive _conscious mode_ - the one we've seen in many interviews when he is speaking about the Black experience. Then, he could've came out with a whole separate movie detailing how Sharif came up. There could've been _many_ branches leading up to the original movie or branching out from it.

I think that was a fair request from Tupac. I think the role of the director, is to sit down with the crew,and explain the purpose of the movie, and it's subsequent impact on the society. Moreover, explaining the different roles of characters, and why? Tupac knew all of that so...that's it.

Funny thing is that Pac came into the rap game as more of a Sharif type persona (2pacalypse Now). A brotha spittin knowledge, but connected to the streets. I mean the dude started as a dancer for Digital Underground. The hard core/gangsta persona came after Juice. Dude should have took the role, killed it and kept it moving to the next project.
Pac should have used his own imagination to create a background on Sharif then make that role stand out.

I definitely agree with this assessment.
This makes me think about Denzel Washington. For most of his acting career, he portrayed a clean, straight and narrow, good-guy image -- but when he dropped Training Day, it was notably different from the roles I was used to seeing. But he played the role so well that it made me like him even more. He played his character so well that I didn't even want him to die (even though, he deserved it). It simply added to his legacy of his entertainment value and versatility. Now, I find myself thinking that Training Day might be my favorite movie featuring him (even though, he made many other great films).
His diverse activities b rang was seen in poetic justice much better movie he played a honourable man

But in a movie like Menace II Society, he could have possibly made an even greater impact because many of the main characters portrayed themselves as violent, misguided, and didn't gaf -- Pac could have been the guy who brought sanity, a sense of direction, and morality to the situation and with his charisma that he could have injected into his role, he could have possibly endeared a lot more observers.
I understand that Pac wanted to add a backstory to his potential character, but I also think he was being difficult to work with.
While I agree that he demonstrated a relatively "good guy" imagine in Poetic Justice, I think that he could have had a greater impact in Menace II Society.
Only thing is shareef role wasn’t a lot of screen time he didn’t have many lines that’s the thing that’s all but I feel you . Understand pac would have took the role of shareef was in the film more . PAC not taking the role was more impactful than the shareef role. I think Larenz Tate in that movie to me was the best character role he ever played for me. I think that pac wanted that role a little bit more than Larenz. I would’ve been good with either of them playing Kane’s best friend. The Hughes brothers could’ve did something creative with the hottest act in that time period. Pac, God rest his soul, wasn't a street dude like his records suggested he was. He wanted to rep that life too hard and it brought him in contact with dudes who were REALLY about that life and it cost him his life. He was too brilliant for that.

@@JayBelafonte Why do all that for a side character? Sharif actually got more back story than O-Dog who has about 90% more screen time. And what about the A-Wax? The audience is smart enough to understand the crux of the character without an unnecessary flashback. This was more about Tupac's ego. He was Tupac for god's sake. He could have just turned the part down and jumped on a different movie if he wanted to.
