"you, you're a history in rust" will always be one of my favorite albums of all time. How did this amazing piece of work not get more recognition? blah.
i love this version too, but the whistling in the album version, even though so simple, is so significant and perfect! But no matter what they do its amazing!
So many wonderful ideas and emotions conveyed in just three minutes by a group of musicians playing in a grassy field. The ephemerality is striking in this performance; from the name of the group, to the title of the song, to the golden-hue of a late summer's afternoon--everything is pointing to an idea that seems to be etched into the silence of this song. It says, "this will not last forever."
The trumpet player (Michael Barth) has his D.M.A in trumpet performance and just got a position at my university for the fall. I'm pretty excited to be working with him.
Wonderful. To me, one of the most interesting bands I have had the privilege of coming across. I still remember the impact their first album had on me end of the 90s. Good days with Dr. Hooch and... well just in general...
Bon ben alors cette instrumentale est fabuleuse. Elle respire la joie et la gaité. Quand je l'écoute, je suis direct de bonne humeur :D Voilà pour les francophones.^^
As a bit of a post-rock fan, it's so refreshing to hear such an organic sound. It's like some PR bands think they're creating a soundtrack to The Expanse, where this sounds like it belongs on a feel good coming-of-age movie.
Honestly one of the best performance groups of all time.... People wouldn't know super awesome AND technically challenging music if it jumped up and bit them in the ass
its just great music that perfectly expresses the emotions they felt when they were recording. its instrumental, so the emotional investment you attach to this song is entirely your own. no genre need apply.
PS : Non ce n'est pas pour me la péter que je commente pour les francophones, c'est juste ma nana qui me dit que je me la raconte à poster en anglais. Merci de votre compréhension.
I first saw this ages ago, when I had never even heard of post rock, but I thought then that this was just awesome. I'm so glad to have rediscovered this, and to find I still think it's awesome. :)
I am in love with this song. I really want to have it play at my wedding ceremony, but I prefer this live version. Does anyone know if there is anywhere I can buy it?
@jenyouwhine The magnitude of the music spectrum never seizes to amaze me. There's incredible stuff out there that a lot of people don't know about. I just started exploring music, and I'm sure I've hardly put a dent in it. But this band, definitely gets the thumbs up.
Do Make Say Think has certainly been an influence in our writing. If you would take a moment to listen to our music by clicking on our username, you likely won't regret it.
Post-rock music has a diverse range of sounds, but it's generally characterized by a focus on instrumentation and atmosphere rather than lyrics. It's essentially non-rock music that uses rock instrumentation.
This is fantastic! I first heard this on KUCI a few days ago and was blown away. Unfortunately, the host of the show took AGES to announce what this was, so I didn't find it out until I looked it up online. These guys are great. I'd totally love to play a show with them, whether its as a solo act, or with the Surrenders, Sister Rogers, etc.
I always get that feeling when I listen to really good post-rock. Check out "Leather Wings" - This Will Destroy You for a fantastic song that evokes the same emotion.
Why in fucks name would you ever want to find the same sound. This is what makes this genre brilliant you're introduced to new music that you never would have thought you would listen too in a million years, but then again, I'm a musician and i do listen to some weird shit. ;-)
@Kinshasa9200 musical talent is about much more than technique. I have not heard the Flecktones so cannot comment about them. (However I did hear Bela Fleck in concert with Edgar Meyer once, and it was AMAZING!).
@Kinshasa9200 to name some favorite musicians, a "primitive" pianist such as Jabo Williams can create perfectly good, compelling music out of, seemingly, nothing, simply via his rhythmic drive, melodic interest and knack for picking good notes (or making good notes out of the notes he has chosen). example: "Pratt City Blues". Highly schooled, virtuoso musicians such as Roy Bargy can also create good music if their heart is in it and they exercise good taste. Check out his "Sunshine Capers".
Indeed. I started doing the same some years ago and there are so many ways of making music; it is so vast, that it is really a shame most people are not aware of it. By the way, this is an amazing band.
why is everyone so clingy to post-rock when they've just discovered it ? It's okay to like music with vocals or even commercial 4chordmusic. The best musician is an allrounder :)
After 16 years, this song is still beautiful
it wont ever stop, theres beauty in the rust this gathers
the only band that ever made me forget where I was for more than a few seconds
@@roadflare Chinatown is a close second for my favorite songs
It's so nice to find a post-rock song that lasts less than a week.
I walked down the isle to this song. One of my favorite tunes of all time.
I smoked a lot of weed to this song. One of my favorite tunes of all time.
when this song ended for the first time i heard, i felt the same sensation of when I close a wonderful book, bittersweet butterlfies in my stomach.
"you, you're a history in rust" will always be one of my favorite albums of all time. How did this amazing piece of work not get more recognition? blah.
lovely... reminds me a lil' bit of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra...
i love this version too, but the whistling in the album version, even though so simple, is so significant and perfect! But no matter what they do its amazing!

just discovered this beautiful music today. during my lunch a nice sunshine & these sweet melodies accompanied me :>
Amazing. This is my favorite band for the past few years.
I highly recommend seeing them live as many times as you can.
great portrayal of americana nostalgia even if i had only spent one summer and two winters in the US of A
12 personas no saben lo que es soñar escuchando, ver pasar imagenes de tu vida con musica
makes me feel happy inside
love when the bass and violin come in
I freakin' love this instrumental. It breathes joy and happiness. When I listen to it, i'm automatically in a good mood. :D
The trumpet player (Michael Barth) has his D.M.A in trumpet performance and just got a position at my university for the fall. I'm pretty excited to be working with him.

Voilà pour les francophones.^^
as far as their more acoustic summery sounding songs go this album (youre a history in rust) is what youre looking for.
That melody is beautiful.
such a beautiful song, at any moment of life
This song instantly relaxes me.
As a bit of a post-rock fan, it's so refreshing to hear such an organic sound. It's like some PR bands think they're creating a soundtrack to The Expanse, where this sounds like it belongs on a feel good coming-of-age movie.
this is probably one of the most beautiful videos on youtube
This beautiful video perfectly captures the mood of the song. Saw the band live and they were terrific.
Honestly one of the best performance groups of all time.... People wouldn't know super awesome AND technically challenging music if it jumped up and bit them in the ass

Beautiful tune man
And to think, I used to think instrumental music was all classical.
Thanks, Do Make Say Think, for opening my eyes.
they need to remake this in hd
They have!! ua-cam.com/video/9rK4_mdz-Sw/v-deo.htmlsi=nIpcKgdDKU-AjBRa
So great. Long live DMST.
Beautiful song, beautiful album, beautiful band!
PS : Non ce n'est pas pour me la péter que je commente pour les francophones, c'est juste ma nana qui me dit que je me la raconte à poster en anglais. Merci de votre compréhension.
I think do make say think is a pretty cool guy, eh makes the best chill music and doesn't afraid of anything
I first saw this ages ago, when I had never even heard of post rock, but I thought then that this was just awesome. I'm so glad to have rediscovered this, and to find I still think it's awesome. :)
a melhor descoberta de 2010. alguém traga esses caras para o Brasil.
Best band ever.... I have never heard a trumpet (or flugelhorn, whatever tis) sound so fucking amazing as when I saw them live the 1st time.
Wicked song, weird how videos on here seem to just go off the radar. Last comment a year ago!? Beautiful song.
If you get time try out Lucid Rivers.
I am in love with this song. I really want to have it play at my wedding ceremony, but I prefer this live version. Does anyone know if there is anywhere I can buy it?
Do Make Say Think rocks! We shot their show in NYC last spring. Check out my profile to watch the video!
so beautiful. thank you shirtless drummers, and other Canadians,
I couldn't agree with you more. They were stunning in Montreal.
I love them!
So beautiful music!
This song takes me away from all the negative things I am around.
22 is a good year man. good year.
Fave Do Make Say Think song EVER! Fun to play too.

Charles Spearin, I love you
Parts of this remind me of Pullman's "In a box, under the bed"

That's a brilliant way to put it. It's exactly that. Strange.
Post-rock music has a diverse range of sounds, but it's generally characterized by a focus on instrumentation and atmosphere rather than lyrics. It's essentially non-rock music that uses rock instrumentation.
ah the days before iPhone 8s and IPAs
k then hipster

nice nice song ... smooooth
Great place to hear a music.
There is beauty in this land, but I don’t often see it. I just did.
I always get that feeling when I listen to really good post-rock. Check out "Leather Wings" - This Will Destroy You for a fantastic song that evokes the same emotion.
It makes me believe in humanity.
it heals my mind in rust
with great moustache comes great responsibility
this is fantastic

how soothing
best use of violin ever !
this song is fucking raw, great outdoors song!
really good setting
Beautiful.
@jiniton You just described in a few words a feeling that has taken me years to explain.
@iunnodiapeys yep, charles spearin plays for bss as well as do make say think
I wanna cry for some reason, but i don't know why i can't.
I really like this.
Some rumors says that this tune is on Heavens gate playlist. Dunno if it's founded though.
@Kinshasa9200 musical talent is about much more than technique. I have not heard the Flecktones so cannot comment about them. (However I did hear Bela Fleck in concert with Edgar Meyer once, and it was AMAZING!).
and The Album Leaf, and mum, and Jeniferever, and Ef, and Yndi Halda, and Audrey, and Mogwai...

This is why instruments were invented people.
positive energy... yeaaaah...
just found thes guys...
this is the second song i have heard....
so far they are 2 for 2....
:)
Besides A Silver Mt. Zion, and Sigur Ros
well, it shouldn't matter if you're right or left handed, you learn traditional the same way no matter what. But that drummer is surely Abstract.
is a lot closer to jazz than classical.
Awesome tune. :)
@iunnodiapeys he's in DMST, but yeah he makes some appearances with BSS too
This sounds similar to one of the early songs in "Days of Heaven." Really good movie.
RIP Brian
@esldave
I have seen them live once and is was PURE AWESOME
Indeed. I started doing the same some years ago and there are so many ways of making music; it is so vast, that it is really a shame most people are not aware of it. By the way, this is an amazing band.
absolutely love it.
That's so central Texas.
Wow, beautiful! Come to Edmonton!
Yes it does... DMST themselves even sing in certain songs.
Que bien suena ese fliscorno.me gusta.
love it
why is everyone so clingy to post-rock when they've just discovered it ? It's okay to like music with vocals or even commercial 4chordmusic. The best musician is an allrounder :)
I fucking love you guys!
Ayoye!! WoW!!
Response to myself 14 years later: Ayoye!!!! Wow!!!!!
i love DMST!!!!
It's summer time - shirtless rocks
great comment
@oJKBo You get this because these guys probably influenced This Will Destroy You in some way.
