- I think, we are many who love cottage gardens and cottage plants. Right?
In this little video I will show you some of my easiest and beloved cottage plants.
Do like them?
I'm also pleased to tell that my book Cottage Gardens wil be published in September. You can preorder here: geni.us/TheCot...
Wonderful tour, with such a knowledgeable host! Such a good example of a natural looking cottage garden that is not forced into a contrived landscape 👍
I am so impressed you know all the botanical names ~ Thank you for writing them down, in the video ~ LOVE your cottage garden!!
Thank you so much for your kind comment and for being here.
Dear Claus. Again, you are great inspiration for us. Your garden and your personality are amazing. Best regards from Stettin (Poland), Aga ❤ and Peter😊.
Master! What a beauty, what a garden, is it a dream??
Am I dreaming??
I love everything everything of this heavenly dream garden!
🙏Thank you Claus 🙏
Please come back soon💓💚💓💚💓💚💓
Thank you so, so much for your kind comment and for being here.
@@ClausDalbyEnglish Thank you!
Your garden is stunning!!! I can’t imagine anyone not seeing the beauty in it. Thank you for showing it to us.
You are very kind - thank you so much and thank you for being here.
Your cottage garden is so beautiful! I think it's okay to combine styles, cottage with formal gardens, as it would be too predictable and boring otherwise! You have such an eye for creating a lovely garden, Claus! It is wonderful to learn from you and find new ways of combining plants!
Thank you so much for your kind comment - it is much appreciated.
Lovely and charming cottage garden. I'm sure it's lots of work to make that happen.
Your garden is, of course, very beautiful... could you consider a discussion about how you fertilize to get such healthy plants. Do you have a regular schedule... beautiful but your obvious knowledge of this kind of issue would be so useful.
Too bad UA-cam was not a thing when you were building your garden. I would be very interested in the process of your hard scape, structural plantings etc…
All those beautiful flowers are the last step in a well thought out garden.
Thank you so much for your very kind comment, it is much appreciated.
Dear Claus, do you have any problems with watering your garden? Maybe you could talk about that topic in one of your next videos. Will there be a ban on using water when it gets too hot and dry in your area? What would you do if that happens?
I love your garden so so much...the abundance is so woderful.
Yes, this is a question many of us are facing in the western US. I typically mow my cottage garden down completely at the end of June. The ongoing drought is changing how we garden in California.
I think a ban in Sweden is not something that comes easy, also the abundance works great for keeping the ground covered and not dry out
@@Karincl7 The garden is in Risskov Denmark.
I also have a perennial hesperis (a white one) that I have had for at least 10 years but don't know the name but would love to get more. Your garden is magnificent
Thank you so much for your kind comment and for being here.
Really beautiful, Claus. Everything looks so lush, loved and healthy. I love cottage gardens and the informal style with frothy flowers tumbling everywhere as though they've all just happened naturally. Another gorgeous cottage garden is at Hardy's Cottage here in UK - the former home of novelist Thomas Hardy and where he wrote Far From the Madding Crowd. So beautiful and heavenly 🌷🦋🌷xxx
Thank you so much for your very kind comment.
Ive just managed to order AICHA here in the UK. Yours is a stunner!, how old?
What do you recommend to grow it over?
We haven't had rain in London since early May, plants and people are all suffering Claus.
It is the same here - very dry.
Utterly gorgeous as always Claus! Exactly what I’m planning for my garden: wild, airy, natural & a gift for pollinators! 😊🌹🪴🌸👏🏻
Thank you so much - I am leases that you like my way of gardening.
Just lovely! 🥰When he pulls up plants, I wish I could be there before he tosses them away. I would gather them all up! ☺️
Totally stunning, and your description of all the flower varieties is really helpful in informing us viewers of what we might like to try in our own gardens.
Thank you so much for your kind comment and for being here.
Cranesbill is my favorite perennial. I plant natives here in my US garden, but supplement with cranesbill. Greetings from Maine, USA. Hi to Mabel!
A beautiful garden you have got. I like the informality of the cottage style part of your garden , furthermore the formal elements are eyecatching and interesting. The diversity of your flowers, plants and colours are really appealing. Thank you for sharing.😍👏👏😍😍
Thank you so much for your very kind comment - it is much appreciated.
Your formal garden fabulously frames the cottage garden. The effect is stunning. You make the world a more beautiful place and share your knowledge with us. Thank you.
What a lovely comment - thank you so much and thank you for being here.
Beautiful gardens!!!!!! I enjoy your videos so much and love your beautiful, stately white house!!!
You are very kind! Thank you so much and thank you for being here.

Это рай на земле😍😍😍не могу налюбоваться этим восхитительным садом😍🥰Браво замечательному садоводу👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much for your kind comment and for being here.
Stunning! How does one overwinter a rose in a pot? Green house of course, but I only have an unheated garden shed.
Thank you so much and thank you for watching.
So lovely and informative. My cottage garden has poppies, aquilegia, cranesbill, peonies and roses, with some lavender. However the ground elder continually attempts to take over! Many thanks for your presentation.
Thank you for sharing your incredibly beautiful garden! You have so many interesting and special plants, i really love the silene! I hope you will share more of your roses when they bloom.
Thank you so much - and yes, I will be sharing lots about my roses.
Thank you for your beautiful videos. They are a joy to watch, & we love the planting style of your cottage garden plants.
We live in very damp, very rural mid-west Wales so cannot plant too densely if we are to avoid fungal outbreaks.
I am pleased you like my videos - thank you for watching.
A wonderful tour! I appreciate your information on cutting back flowers so they will bloom a second time. I have bleeding hearts that don’t bloom a second time. I am trying to follow your suggestions and plant cleome and amaranth is in the same section to keep the garden interesting through the summer. Thank you for sharing your garden and all your knowledge.
The pleasure is all mine! Thank you so much for watching my videos - I am pleased to hear that you are inspired by what I do.
Hesperus tristus is biennial- Hesperus matronalis is perennial.
I always enjoy your garden. Nice collections of plants. Thanks.
Thank you so much and thank you for being here.
Hesperis Perennial Dame's Rocket

What a lovely comment - thank you.
Dear Claus,
Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden with us. The way you pronounce the botanical names and the smile you have each time you share with us is so refreshing.
All the best! 😊
Thank you so much for your kind words - they are much appreciated.
Wow so very lovely. Cottage gardening is my favorite. The Aisha rose is spectacular with the blooms close , abundant and delicate all at the same time. It has been very dry in pittsburgh pa USA . I do see some rain in the future so fingers crossed. Thank you for sharing.
Hesperis matronalis self seeds and comes back for years ! Beautiful gardens !
Thank you so much for your kind comment.
In the words of the great Christopher Lloyds
their is no such thing as a cottage garden it's a cottage border
God bless love ❤️ you garden
Thank you so much.
Joyful! Yours is a happy garden. Thankyou!
That is such a lovely comment - thank you very much.
Thank you so much, Claus for showing us your beautiful cottage style plantings. I also love cottage style and at the moment my garden is spilling over with beautiful frothiness. You have given me lots of ideas for plants to buy to fill gaps in my borders, due to the hot summer and really unusually cold winter. I especially liked the airiness of of the Anthriscus Sylvestris.I had a lot of ground elder in my lupin bed and i pulled it up- I would have left it had i known it had such a beautiful flower head. I adore the rose 'Odyssey'. What a stunning bloom. It is now on my wish list! Watching your videos of your stunning garden is costing me a fortune- my wish list is ever growing, ha ha. Thank you again- your garden brings me so much peace and happiness :-)
Thanks. You are so kind
Love your garden ❤. Watching from 🇨🇦.
So delightful to listen to you Mr Dalby.
I am pleased to hear ot - thank you so much.

Have you ever had a Sunday morning television program in your Denmark ?
Yes, I have been on television in a couple of gardening series.
The wildness of the cottage plants is beautiful. Thank you for another inspiring video.
The pleasure is all mine - thank you for watching.
I was thinking of your beautiful garden and there just happened to be a new video! I'm so glad to hear someone call Peony a Pe-ony. Here in the States we have this battle of Pe-ony vrs Pee-on-Nee ugh! Let's have the name sound pretty
Thank you so much for your kind comment and for being here.
So ein schöner Garten, könnte stundenlag zuschauen💚💚👍👍

That is high praise indeed - that you so, so much and thank you for being here.
Amazon UK 🇬🇧 only has your book 📖 in Danish . ❤
I have just checked and they have both of my English books - both The Cottage Garden and Containers in the Garden.
Hello Hello...so happy to see your cottage choices. Thanks for bringing us along.
The pleasure is all mine - thank you for watching.
Hesperis Matronalis is half hardy i guess... I have a couple that came back the second year in my garden too. How long has yours survived?
Thank you Claus. Always such a joy to see what's happening in your garden.
You are very kind - thank you so much.
Wonderful. My Grandmother is from the Danish family name of Wissing.

Thank you so, so much for your kind comment and for being here.
I love these garden tours. The plants you showed were beautiful:) I also like the way the boxwood hedge behind you 12:15 was pruned to step down so gracefully.
Thank you so much for your kind comment and for watching my video. The hedge is yew - not boxwood.
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Beautiful! I think the formal accents the cottage garden perfectly!
Thank you so much - I am pleased to hear it.
Love the mixture of all the plants all the different pedals of the blooms are so pleasing to see together!! You have a wonderful eye to mix these!! I love it!!❤️
You are very kind - thank you so much.
Your garden is so beautiful and so well cared for. I am in Florida, my cottage garden looks different from yours, as we are now in deep summer. Chores must be done before the sun is up now! A cloudy day is a reprieve but we have no rain. Thank you for showing us your garden. ☺️
Thank you so much for your kind words and for being here. The situation is the same here - no rain for almost three weeks and none forecast either.
You don’t seem to be concerned about the possibility of encountering a poisonous snake.
No possibility
We don’t have snakes, so there is nothing to worry about.
So beautiful garden! It will be amazing walking through it, the colours, the smell, the birds sounds...Hard work but wonderful results. I envy you😊🤢 in a cool way👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you very much for your kind words.
Geranium Patricia! That’s the name I was looking for. i have bistorta but did not realise they will flower twice if cut back (which geraniums do also) so thank you for that valuable information.
My pleasure! Thank you for watching.
Everything looks so lush and healthy and all in my favourite colour palette of mauves and pinks with white and cream highlights ❤. Jo UK 🙂
Thank you so much - I am pleased you like it.
Love your garden. I have several of the flowers you showed. ❤
New subscriber from New York! Mr. Dalby, I’m a new gardener and would be so happy if my garden looked even one tenth like yours! Thanks so much for the great videos ❤
Thank you so much for your kind words and welcome to my account. I hope you will find lots of inspiration here.
As always, your garden tours are so impressive and informative. Stunning garden! Thanks, Claus.

Thanks so much for sharing your garden on video, absolutely amazing, such a talented man, not only are you able to grow plants, but your understanding of texture , shapes, height and colour are phenomenal. I watch a number of other gardeners videos. None come close to you. One only has to read the comments below to realise how respected you are.
Thank you so, so much for all your kind words - they are much appreciated.
Beautiful
Soft romantic look
The colors are healing
Did I say u have a dream garden dear Claus!!!🥰
You are very kind - thank you so much.
The combo between Aïcha and Silene fimbriata is just amazing !
Thank you so much - I am pleased you like it.
So beautiful!
Thank you very much
Claus, what is the hedge behind the roses you’re showing? Is it evergreen? Not the yew, it looks like something less. Lovely video and very inspiring!
I only have yew and beech hedges in my garden.
Dear Claus, maybe your Hesperis matronalis is a Lunaria rediviva ?If so, this would be an elegant explanation why your Hesperis is a perennial...Many greeting from my wild german cottage garden
Thanks. But sorry to say it’s not😢
I saw it mentioned before by perennial plant Nursery Hessenhof (Netherlands): could it be Hesperis Laciniata?
@@ClausDalbyEnglish 🤔
Hesperis matronalis subspecies nivea?
So much inspiration to aspire to! Last year I started my first cottage garden and I enjoyed it so much although I did get a bit impatient waiting for everything to fill in. My favorite is container gardening however, and you are the king of containers. I do a much scaled down version of your container groupings! Thank you for all you share with us!
Thank you so much for your very kind comment and for being here.
Charming.
Thank you very much.
Applause.
Thank you very much.
