The corner on quick 2 negative. Routes behind the line of scrimmage has to freeze. He doesn’t have to Sink like in Tampa cover 2. But he has to freeze. Which gives the safety time to get there
Exactly what I was gonna say. There's no reason for the CB to trigger if 2 is negative. Freeze and look at the QB's front shoulder. Also, why is the CB playing inside leverage. That's making the Safety have to run further.
I've even seen a slide technique work well vs a 2 neg. Not hard to make up that 3 yards or w/e as the ball is in the air.
It would also depend on down and distance. It's possible is could have been 2/3 and short. Safety shouldve have froze because they are showing pass blocking, if it was a run, it would have been a zone to the other side. And no matter how fast/good you can read the run or pass, a DBs first steps should always be back, then come up. A DB has a good second and a half to read the run or pass and that is enough time to react.

Agreed, PA shouldn’t fool you if you identify the run action is going to the other side. Let’s say this is 3rd & 3, football sense says I need to be thinking pass if I’m a safety. I’m not being paid to make tackles on runs to the opposite side while playing Cover 2 Read I’m being paid to cover ground in coverage. I don’t like inside leverage from my corners unless I’m in true M2M, that may have been an issue as well.
This is exactly what I just said.. that route by the #2 is the decoy route.. thats not the route the QB wants.. if he throws that ball we rally and make the tackle for a no gain.. he wants the corner to jump that route so he can drop the ball right over his head..
Did not play it well though. Corner jumped a flat flare? Trigger when he throws it dude. He opened up the throwing lane 5 yards bigger than it should’ve been.

this what bothers me about this defense nothing puts you in the flat so what trigger to it .. just play reg 2 now that hole is tighter .. corner should slowed down and watch for front shoulder intention
2 out puts you in the flat you drive on throw. He jumped the route you never suppose to jump that route.
