Can you make a video in hdr grading and your edl workflow?
Can you make a video about HDR grading work flow?
Good review, and great monitor from LG. Would definitely own the OLED if it could be a proper reference for HDR, hopefully in future they use QD-OLED so it would be possible. I have a LG OLED for Rec 709 reference and PA32UCG for HDR reference currently. Unfortunately, for now, if you want everything in a monitor you still have to pay crazy prices for reference displays.
It’s nice to see budget displays available for people who only want to do SDR.
Besides the EP950 what else is there for good SDR monitors under $5000?
Thank you for your grading videos and monitor reviews. super helpful. wanted to ask you Danny what are you using to rise and slant your micro panel?
I’m using a laptop riser at the moment
I'm wondering between LG EP950 and ProArt PA32UCX-PK, please help me choose monitor for color grading
Hey Danny, just in case you missed it, around 9:15 you’ve get some weird sparkles happening in the image when you’re talking, could be an export bug. Checked on two separate sources and it’s the same. 👍🏻
It might be the film damage effect I applied, but thanks!
Hey Danny, I recently purchased the 32 inch from B&H earlier this month right before these monitors were discontinued and have been dealing with all of the worries from what you mentioned at 7:39 in this video. I bought this to use as an affordable color accurate reference monitor, one that I could use in tandem with a Black magic DeckLink while editing and coloring inside premiere pro. I'm able to calibrate the monitor when it's attached to my graphics card, then after calibration, I swap the cable to my DeckLink. However, I have my doubts that the calibration, which was generated while being connected through the GPU, will be color accurate now that it is going through the DeckLink which is bypassing all OS color management. What has been your experience with this?
That’s the whole point of having a decklink, to bypass the GPU. Your calibration is stored in the monitor itself if you use their LG Calibration Studio to calibrate.
Thanks for the reply, Danny. I know that the calibration is stored in the monitor, but my question was: because LG Calibration Studio was using patterns generated via software while being connected through the graphics card, doesn't that have an effect on the way the colors are being rendered? Therefore, while it may be transmitting accurate color once calibrated, if you swap the signal to come from the decklink, wouldn't that lead to a slight difference in color rendition? In other words, we may be getting the most accurate calibration if we keep the monitor plugged in via however the calibration was generated (i.e. through the graphics card). Would love to be wrong about this. I've been searching all around about this, but haven't been able to come up with a clear cut answer. I even contacted LG and their representative didn't seem to know how using a Decklink would impact the calibration, and basically recommended I stick with using the graphics card output, which was a huge bummer.
@@maddrummer900 I actually asked myself the same question. From what I know Pro-Calibrater do: They do calibration throug the declink or a BMD UltraStudio Monitor to bypass the grafic card.
The 32EP950 and 27" version have reached End of Life (EOL) as the Joled factory that supplies the panels declared bankrupcty in March 2023. B&H photo has been blowing out the units for $2000 less than the previous selling price. For SDR grading the EP950 is a great bargain.
Yeah, sad to hear. Wondering if there's any news of a new OLED monitor manufacturer coming to town
@@DannyGan Flanders Scientific is leading the wave with their QD OLED technology. Hopefully in the future smaller size panels and affordable pricing will be offered.
But that's the thing, I don't think FS is interested in the pro-sumer market. They in the position to make professional tools rather than more affordable consumer monitors
Yes indeed Flanders Scientific is aimed at the professional market as was LG until the EP950 became EOL and the pricing dropped to make it affordable for many. Regardless having owned FSI monitors I find them to be a great value and solid piece of gear long term. @@DannyGan
Hello. When choosing an OLED monitor, did you consider TV LG OLED42C2/C3 at a price of $ 1000 ? These TV have hardware calibration of 1D-LUT and 3D-LUT inside the TV (Calman Home for LG, ColourSpace Light illusion). If you were considering TV, why did you choose the EP950 monitor?
You have to consider the response time (1ms) and work space you have for a TV. I’m not too sure about the calibration process, but it seems more complicated than the software that LG has for their monitors. Calman Home is another cost to add. I’ll only be able to talk about this once I have my proper studio setup with the LG C3! I’ll definitely make a video on that.
@@DannyGan Hello. I thought about buying a monitor for myself and after searching the Internet, I am inclined to purchase LG OLED42C2/C3. CalMAN Home for LG costs $ 145. Hardware calibration has an advantage over software: the absence of sharp transitions in gradients and parasitic colors, - the ability to build a hardware profile based on a large number of color patches and not be afraid of problems associated with gradients and parasitic colors in them.
When I started looking for monitors with hardware calibration support, I realized that from the modern it is only Asus ProArt PA32UCX/UCG (because Benque still uses side illumination and low contrast 600:1, which does not suit me). But UCX/UCG has problems with parts in black at a high price. As a result, it turns out that LG OLED42C2/C3 is priced 4-6 times lower than UCX/UCG, and the additional price of CalMAN Home for LG at $ 145 still gives a favorable offer. Working with CalMAN Home for LG is very simple and on their UA-cam page (Portrait Displays) there are three 10-20-minute videos on calibration of LG OLED TV in SDR, HDR, DolbyVision.
Thanks a lot for this review unfortunately there is no enough reviews about this monitor.
Can u tell us plz what do you think about :
LG UltraGear 27" 1440p OLED 240Hz Gaming Monitor (800$)
Or lg tv c series 42 inch?
Thank you
This EP950 is for professional work, if that’s what you need a monitor for. The tv is hard to calibrate, if you need it to be accurate.
What do you think about Philips 27E1N8900 which has the same JOLED panel
If they have the same panel then you can expect the same quality, but I see no mention of hardware calibration nor proprietary software for calibration. These are important factors to consider for convenience.
iPad gamma is 1.96 only when it adopts MacOS gamma via sidecar. It should be 2.4 when used alone.
hi danny, i also started my colorgarding studio. so suggest me which ref. monitor should i buy?
No offense, but that's ike telling me you're planning to buy a car. So I'm not sure to recommend a Porsche 911 or a Toyota Camry. Both good cars, but how much are you willing to spend.
@@DannyGan I have 6000$ budget for monitor
hi danny , i m totaly confused between eizo 2700x and EP950 ! which one should i buy?
if you can find an EP950 i would say go for it. It's discontinued but the value for money is unbeatable. On the other hand, Eizo is a really reliable brand, so you won't go wrong with it.
@@DannyGan thanks for reply.
Have you seen the INNOCN 32" OLED 4K Computer Monitor, UHD (3840 x 2160) Professional Monitor ? They say this monitor uses the same JOLED display as the LG 27EP950
Not yet, but I'm curious to review it!
Do also check if they have proprietary calibration software because that is crucial for hardware calibration.
So do you use the REC709 color profile on your monitor when you are grading?
Yupp
To clarify, technically I use the “calibration” profile on the monitor. But it is calibrated to Rec709
@@DannyGan Thank you! I have the Samsung Odyssey G8 OLED, but I don’t think I can use it as a reference monitor? I’m thinking of getting some Asus Proart 27” IPS
Can’t say it’s gonna be better for sure, but the Samsung is a gaming monitor so color accuracy is not its priority for sure.
Can you recommend a good monitor with hardware calibration for 500-1000$? Grading purposes. SDR mostly. Thanks!@@DannyGan
Another question plz can i buy this monito fron B and h (from usa 60hz) if im living in middle east (50hz) ?
Thanks again 🙏
I’m not too sure about that, you should check the electrical specs
Lg cx oled hdr tv as secondary display to my benqpd2706u hdr wide colour gamut 99srgb rec709 monitor can we get Hollywood range colours to my theater films pls say
You should worry about 99% sRGB. It should cover 100% sRGB and at least 95% DCI-P3
@@DannyGan actually this is my monitor configuration--BenQ PD2706U 27"(68cm) IPS HDR10 4K Monitor|99% Rec709| 99% sRGB|95% P3|Pantone Skintone| Calman Verified|CAD/CAM & Animation Mode|KVM|Auto Pivot|PIP/PBP|USB Hub|HDMI|DP|USB-C(90W PD)(Gray) so pls say can I bring Hollywood range colours to my theater film with proper calibration and with best colorist pls say clearly
A much better investment would be the Samsung S95b.
99% DCI-P3
90% Rec.2020
1000 nits HDR
100/200 nits SDR
DeltaE of less than 2 when properly calibrated
And most important of all its QD-OLED which means it doesn't use a white subpixels which means the colors stay vibrant with brightness increases. Best of all it costs 1000€ at 55 inches
I was interested until you mentioned 55".
They are in a totally different category of displays, you won't get a proper UI and convenience in terms of calibration on a desktop monitor compared to a tv.
But whatever works for each person, a tv is good for an audience and larger space.
How does it compare to the proart OLED
The panels are from the same manufacturer, so its the same in terms of quality. Differences are of course the physicals and ergonomics. Both great for what it is at different price points.
Might want to check out the PA27DCE when available, I think that was announced in 2022 but delayed as that factory making JOLED went belly up. So probably they changed suppliers.@@DannyGan
2.2 or 2.4 for youtube mast use7
I'd stick with 2.4
Bro, sell to me this monitor like rm5K? hehe..sure u bought it cheaper kan..kan..hehe
I sell to u then what I use? 😅 I sell 15k la, then can get replacement
@@DannyGan 😂😂😂😂
No Longer Available ?🤣
Depending on region, but it’s definitely hard to find.
