This was very informative.You are right when you say that the gaskets should be available when they get spoiled by black spots or loose their elasticity.I am facing the same problem.I have very good glass containers but the gasket is so spoiled inspite of regular cleaning that I hate to use it for food.If you can help me with a method to remove those marks,it will be great.TIA

Hello, I try to keep them dry from the beginning because once they develop, it's very difficult to remove them. Try this though: soak the gasket in a mixture of vinegar and soda and then gently scrub the dark spots..
