  • In 1977, Derek Nimmo of the BBC, visits Vivienne Westwood's shop, to learn of the Punk fashion at the time, and kits out wearing some of the clothes from the shop. Featuring members of the Sex Pistols and Jordan.
    R.I.P. Vivienne: 8 April 1941 - 29 December 2022
Vivienne Westwood came to public notice when she made clothes for the boutique that she and Malcolm McLaren ran on King's Road, which became known as SEX. Their ability to synthesise clothing and music shaped the 1970s UK punk scene which was dominated by McLaren's band, the Sex Pistols. She viewed punk as a way of "seeing if one could put a spoke in the system".
Westwood opened four shops in London and eventually expanded throughout Britain and the world, selling an increasingly varied range of merchandise, some of which promoted her many political causes such as the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, climate change and civil rights groups.

Derek Nimmo goes '77 Punk on the King's Road 0210am 1.5.22 punks on a good day, then? the shop seemed deserted... no one brave enough to enter, i surmise... as for derek nimmo of the bbc - must have been on one of his porn dungeon escapades and met with one of the shop backroom team? con club? i aint a con club affiliate. and it shows. still as for movers and shakers of the piece it must be the con club which gets it al off and rolling, eh?

what a delight and so wonderful the good old days, life back then was awful boring in the U.K emerged brilliant artists and bands.
but what's sadder is that nowadays, the all music industry, fashion and movie industry is boring or equally violent or shallow,
no one is talented enough to bring something new, interesting authentic and inventive to the world!

Love how the grannies knew to have a chain from the nose. Nice varied repsonses, the OLD Kings Road, while it was still good fun.

I grew up in the World's End part of the Kings Road and was a punk back at the beginning in 1975. Our first paid gig was in the old Con Club. It's all completely changed. Even the Con Club has become a posh nursery.
The entire area is shit now. Still, I've lived here my entire life and wouldn't have swapped my teens and early 20s with anyones.

the Cons club, I was getting paid in for a short time, generally full of old boozers off the Ashburnham at that time, I used to get dragged out for a drink or two certainly too dull for a Saturday night.

@@SniffMyDeadwax Yeah I know the crowd. Sadly a good few of them have passed on now, though to be honest, it looked like a cemetery in there most nights. Most of those old boozers used to get chased home by fellas with a shovel! New Year's Eve 2006 was the last time I ever set foot in there. Even the 'Bucket of Blood' aka Rileys is long gone now.

@Pete Testube There was a crossover. If you look at a lot of the kids who were soulboys then got into punk but didn't like the shitty clothes, well you'd get a fair few at Billy's then the Blitz Club, Planets, onto Le Beat Route, Club for Heroes penultimately the WAG and the Mud Club until arriving at the Music Machine. So a lot of crossover.

@Pete Testube Hi Pete mate. Absolutely spot correct sir! I well remember those mohair jumpers. I had one in red'n'black stripes. I looked like David Bowie fell into a blender with Dennis the Menace lol As for those jelly sandals with more holes in them than a pirate skiff after it's been shelled to fuck by the US Navy. I once walked 2 1/2 miles from the train station to my girlfriend's house in the poxy snow because the buses had stopped running that day due to a strike. Nothing changes eh? loool My feet were like blocks of ice and I had to sling my white fluffy socks. Remember them? Great times.

What a great clip, and what a good sport Nimmo was to don the gear! So Rudolph Nureyev bought an Anarchy tee and some plastic trousers? Love it! I was a Punk back then, and did visit that infamous shop...it was expensive!!!

here in the states early 80's shops like 'SEX' were few and far between and always vey pricey which is why over here DIY was most definitely the norm. in fact when english bands would tour over here we used to sometimes refer to them as "punk rockstars" because they were not only snooty but wore really expensive gear. not all of them of course but enough to be noticeable.

I think the reason is kind of " project-thinking" , no room for creative processes anymore. Everyone too busy making money.
