🌈 Thank you for this video. It explained the spectroscope much better than I received in my GIA lab class. The part about the dust was exceptionally helpful as I don’t recall them saying anything about that.
Great! We're smarter now, that moves us to learn more to distinguish quality, price & values.
Thanks Gem Goddess!

What reference book is Claire using
💟🌈🙋 A great and thorough explanation.Thank You!
The refractometer Is important?
What book would you reccomend for reference?
Does anyone know what large book she is using?
tank you
🌈thank you.
Why not just use the high power fiber-optic light source, I'm sure it has an infra-red absorber so it won't heat the stones?
The definition of Absorption Spectra/ Spectrum can be further simplified & kindly keep both eyes open while working with the Gemological Instruments. 💎🔬🌈
🌈Thanks 👍🏻
Thanks Claire!! 🌈🌈
Claire has such a soothing voice! She should be featured again soon!
🍭🌈🌈🍭 hi, very nice review... where can i get your reference spectra book...plz
2:30 Please, if you need to show long piece of text, do not scroll it around. It's hard to read while moving + video compression artefacts mess the text quality a lot. Static image of text is just fine.
👍
🌈🌈🌈 this was great. I am learning so much :)
🌈
🌈😍
Thaaaaaank you Miss Claaaaire! lol
☀️💎🌈
3:18 no longer correct... the light source needs to be full spectrum most modern flashlights are leds they make a fake "white" light thats really three narrow bands of color that still activate the cones and rods in our eyes. Leds are missing most of the visible spectrum and if that spectrum falls on something you are looking for it makes a fake positive . Old incandescent flashlights dont have this issue
Excellent observation, Edd. Claire details the need for full spectrum lighting and the pitfalls of using LED lighting starting at 6:00.
Nice video, I learned a lot. 🌈🌈🌈
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!!
damn it and cool
🌈🌈🌈 thank you very helpful
Hi I liked the video
🌈🌈🌈thank you
"Since, like.. 1990s"
Yea, Stone Age
🌈🌈
So if this method can't tell you if the gemstone is natural or synthetic what is the purpose of using any of these instruments!?!
I mean did anyone else catch
This this is not going to tell you if the gym is real or fake so why then I want to know why I really do...!?
Synthetic is not "fake" gem, synthetic is lab made, but chemically identical to the natural mined gem, meaning they have the same chemical composition and properties, they are not fake gems, just made in a lab instead of mined.
Fakes are simulants, and usually are not at all chemically similar to the real gem they are imitating, nor do they have the same proporties, can often be made of glass or other crystals unrelated to the gem it is imitating.
So a synthetic corundum, is identical to natural corundum and the spectroscope will confirm this, whereas let's say a diamond and a cubic zirconia will not look the same under a spectroscope because they are not the same material.
Thank you! 🌈🏳️🌈
