Normally never comment on videos, but dude your videos are top quality, a hidden gem that seriously deserve more credit and recognition!
Jonas cheers bro! Comments from people like you are definitely helping me get my content out there!
Yeah totally slick production !
Awesome demo man, I searched for so long to find a good one and this is so top notch!
Glad to hear this helped! Thanks for the kind words my friend. 🙏
Came here for a review and demo of the Keylab Mk2. By the end found myself vibing and jamming alongwith the cool groove beat going in the background on my piano. And then you spoke about the creative flow aspect being like a switch flip. Got the feedback I was looking for. Well made video. Thanks. Subscribed! 💯
Thanks for the review
I got mine yesterday and have to say its realy nice and works perfectly together with Reaper.
This is the best review of this controller! I'm 100% sure I will buy just because I saw this. :)
Hi Patrick. Thank you very much for clearing my mind up. I’m buying this. Cheers!!
I love this! Magnificent video! Thank you very much for sharing this!
Glad you liked it! Appreciate the kind words!
The best overview video. I just got this keyboard yesterday and the information you provided is exceptionally helpful. Thanks.
Excellent review and walk-around, Patrick. Thank you very much - liked and subscribed. I bought an Arturia Analog Experience THE LABORATORY 61 in 2012 and have since purchased ALL of Arturia's V-Collection editions since (from 3 through 7). I never used any of this, just kind of played around with it because I always took my hardware synths to gigs and sessions with me. BUT, I finally got around to experimenting with all of this and have found it all quite amazing. I don't miss my Prophet V rev. 3 as much now because I was able to replicate some of the patches that I commonly used back in the 80s using Arturia's Prophet V. I really found the level of control very impressive. And, although I don't own the latest and greatest, Keylab Mk II, THE LABORATORY 61 shares much of what it can do, so I don't feel too out in the cold by not having the Keylab MK II; but, I did ask Sweetwater to contact me when a 61-key black model comes into stock. :-) Thanks again, Patrick. Keep up the good job.
This is a really great review. Recently I got into beat making with the Akai mini play (love it ) and I want to go bigger and you have shown me the way. Thanks so much.
great review man ! very honest and enlightening
THE BEST review on UA-cam! .... Thanks Man!
This is such a great review. Thanks so much!
Excellent review !!! Next level teaching in a simple way. Thanks
great review dude! keep it up!
OMG!!! First off Patrick, 1st-rate video (as always)! Secondly, thank you for your professional indepth analysis & break down. Lastly & this is very important at least in my opinion, is your humbleness & honesty in all of your videos. I guarantee you that the latter is partly, if not totally responsible for your retention values on your channel.
I have a Novation Remote 37 SL MKII. As much as I love the 37 SL, I would gladly trade that, & my M-Audio Oxygen 49 MKII anyday, for the new Arturia Keylab MKII in this video. It is just that perfect!
Having a tight budget & just recovering from a Triple Bypass Heart Surgery recently, means I will have to put off being able to buy this controller for at least 16-18 months, but this controller will be my next large keyboard/hardware I purchase.
Anyway Patrick, keep up your amazing channel. I know you are going to be doing great things in the future with your UA-cam channel, & associated social media platforms. I look forward to every new incredible video that you produce.
Best Regards,

What great overview of a midi keyboard.
Thats the one i need
Great video, thanks for doing this.
I ordered exactly the black one with 61 keys. I have not seen this video before, but now, I'm excited even more!
Thanks a lot man! Great video
Great review; the only downside is that most of the focus was on the analog lab; while would be more functional and helpful to see how you use the keyboard in the DAW environment, and how you customize it in user mode.
Almost every review seems to focus more on the software, which is great, but I am buying a midi controller, so I am more interested in how does it fare as controller, not as companion hardware selector. for a 150 dollars collection of presets
Absolutely not one negative thing said about the board. Not so much a “review” but a commercial.
Do you know of a negative? It's not cheap but also comes with a great plugin collection. If there were negatives, I would expect to see them in the comments, but all I found was you, amigo.
Good job ! Very helpful!
Great review! Informative and super helpful. Thanks so much. :-)
Glad to help! Cheers!
Nice one dude!
Getting mines tomorrow. I'm hype af.
Interstellar Five you’re going to love it!
great job patrick....i just bought a mk2 61 thanks to you
Absolute Madness!! Wow!
I’m so buying this!
I like this review very much! Thanks.
motu828mk2 cheers my friend!
I had the 49-key version in my queue for a couple of days. Already sold, then you unboxed your 61 and I thought, "Wait, it doesn't look THAT wide". So after a quick check and wondering how they only added 3" to the width, I notice the jog wheel is moved upward. Nice! 49-key, I loved you once - sorry little buddy.
Thank you for telling as it is for you. That may well be as it is for me. And you know what? I just ordered one. Peace.
I have never had a MIDI keyboard, I was looking for a keyboard to create some 8Bit music and also compose some stuff with my electric guitar.
After watching your review (I haven't watched part 1 🙃) I'll definitely buy this keyboard.
Thank you for the great review.
World class seller and reviewer I've seen so far.
Great review. Funny, comments complaining about no focus on Ableton or other DAWS. Almost all of the other vids ONLY focus on the DAW. Yours is the only one I found that actually shows the integration with Analog Lab, which is where this controller shines. What I find frustrating is how Arturia has managed to expand their line of controllers but never quite putting the combination I'm looking for in one...This unit with a sequencer and arp would be killer..but alas, no...The Keystep Pro which is new as of this writing is cool but doesn't have the controls to access the Lab..sigh
Great information - I think you should patten "Yo Mode" :) Great job bud
good review Patrick .. thank you .. merci beaucoup .. 2019 .. !!
12:44 very Blade Runner-ish 😎. Nice video. Totally considering getting one!
It's not very often I actually feel like I wanna comment. But HUUGE thumps up for a awesome comfortable video. I enjoy the whole atmosphere you are havin goin on. You seems so real and true and relaxed. NOW SURELY I NEED TO BUY THAT 😂 My akai mpk261 broke, or 3 keys I cannot get to work, . It's already over two years old. So the warranty is over. I want the best midi keyboard. I was happy with my akai mpk261. But the pads became less sensitive. Keys got more bad. So This video actually helped me. THANKS BRO! 🔥 😷
Thanks!
im thinking of buying this thing.. the software alone is awesome
Yo Breen!! I think all the knobs should have like a press reset capability so like if you are gaining reverb in a section you can cut the reverb stack in one push maybe letting the last note ring for a bit before moving to another active section... that would be tasty!!
Patrick Whoah!!!!! You got Major on screen Talent!!!! Thank you for taking time to give the key elements of this gear!!!Mannn!!! They should have this video playing next to the synth at the Guitar Center...HintHint!!!..yo!!!!..All The guy at the store said wa$$ figure it out...."It's OvaDare"!!!!!...Basically You are a Breath of Fresh Air on the subject matter.
thanks man, just ordered mine today! but white.
Hi Patrick.. thanks for the great video.. quite informative.
Question for you, in multilayers, can we assign the faders to control each sound layer?
I too am a Logic user and I barely know keys (understand theory from playing bass for years), but my shitty 2-octave barebones MIDI controller just isn't cutting it anymore. So tired of using keys for drums (instead of pads) and having absolutely no flexibility, and constantly having to press the up/down octave buttons. I really love how you can control Logic directly from the keyboard! This thing is packed with features! I think I found "the one". Thanks for the great overview man!
Man, first nice review - you got a subscriber. Second, smart people dont go to the modular/hardware synth world - I did it and now I cant go back. A great contender for this controller is the Novation SL MK3 - and this one has 8 instrument sequencer and almost all the jazz the Arturia Keylab have however its a little more dollar. Good work.
Rui Pimentel Good info man, thank you! I also appreciate the kind words 🙌🏻🙏🏻
Is it semi-weighted keys? I now have Juno-G as master keyboard and want major upgrade to keybed. Or should i go NI KK fatar keybed or Novation SL line for upgrade? I'm looking for 49 key version to have space for mouse on side.
Amazing bro, i just bought it this week :) I recommend you Keyscape from Spectrasonics is a great collection of keyboards too.
lucas martin cheers man! Will definitely check out Keyscape!
@@PatrickBreenMusic which controller you had before? Good vid. Thx
Holy shit, I was not sure I want this one because of mixed reviews. But since you are a logic user, I am to. I wasn’t sure if it would work properly with logic. But I guess it does. Thanks for the great review. I think you sold me
what are people saying about it? im thinking of getting it.
Yesssss this is the CONTROLER!! 88 KEYS..TO HEAVEN..MNG BABY
This was perfect timing. Looking for both new midi controller and interface for both daw and iOS live performance, these look perfect. Was looking at the Novation impulse but this Keylab MK2 looks super impressive. Really hard to find the Audiofuse in New Zealand though, any ideas? Great video, 🎹👍❤️ love your work. Big fan, thanks
Can I be your pad pal? We like and dislike the same types of pads LOL Great video man!
Yup, this is definitely tempting. My choice for a large studio MIDI keyboard has been narrowed down between this and the Novation SL mkiii. I'm a bit biased towards the SL being an Ableton user and not owning any Arturia software (aside from the MIDI control center that comes with the Keystep, not that exciting lol).
Mikeureko what’d you end up choosing?
You need to try the Korg collection too...It works well with the Arturia Keylab MKii
Great video bud, For Logic , do you think its a good keyboard? Can it support live loops for performance with logic ?
Great vid! I have a question regarding the trigger pads. Can you use them to trigger different sets of samples on your keyboard or you're just stuck with one scene/set of sounds assigned to the pads? best.a.
why do these companies continue to ignore the dominance of FL studio??
Alesis has FL Studio in their keyboard's setups.
Far more people use Live and/or Logic than FL Studio.
@@BrandonIsTention yeah man.. ableton has everything you need.. you dont need 5000 plugins just to get a track to sound decent
Brandon Reed so can you not use fl with this?
FL Studio continues to dominate only because it's the easiest DAW to hack haha.
I need additional devices to connect headphones? This device supports pedal?
Do you know if the faders are motorized? If not what happens when you switch from analog lab to your daw mixer?
Amazing bro
Jonathan Burgos thanks so much dude!
I'm stuck between this controller and the M-Audio code 49. How do the keys feel on the keylab? What would you recommend? Thanks
Jonathan Burgos I have a code 25, which is nice, but I like this way better. Better quality, better software bundle and functions better. The code was a nice midi keyboard, but I had some trouble getting some of the features to function properly.
Patrick Breen thank you very much bro! Just what I needed to hear. I’ll be grabbing myself one
Nice, But would love to use the chord button to access scales instead of manually inputting them. And a drum roll button for the pads would be cool. Those little improvements would make it a complete controller.
How responsive are the drum pads is it good for finger drumming and have a lot of velocity sensitive with a wide range of dynamics
You just may be the most likeable guy ever haha. Oh also, buying this today! Thanks!
That's very kind of you! Thank you!
Hi Patrick! How is it for controlling Ableton Live? How would this compare with Novation Launchkey MK3 for live looping on Ableton? Thank you in advance.
How's Deckard? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 EPIC btw nice review !!! (I've got the kl61 mk1 and I love those master kBs 😍)
He can breathe alright, as long as you don't unplug him.
Great info. Can you tell me if you can use the pads in Logic Pro. Also the chord memory on the pads can they be played whilst in logic, much appreciate any info.
Cool review, thanks.. i didn't exactly understand the scale mode, is it puts the scale on the white keys as well? Any scale!!!???? If it can do such thing i buy it immediately
In your opinion, how does this compare to the Akai MPK261?
Hi Patrick! I just saw your video and I'd like to ask: what are your recommendations for a midi keyboard controller for someone who wants to switch from the classical piano to this? I'm seriously considering buying one but it will be my first time trying my luck in production/recording. Thanks!
Iva Clarito I’d recommend going with the Keylab Essential 88!
how do you change the colors of the pads? I change it in the Midi Control Center but it doesn't change on the physical keyboard.
Hello, how many layers of sound can be configured on this keyboard controller so that they run and sound at the same time, for example could a piano+pad+strings+organ? That is, is it possible to run more than 2 layers of sound at the same time? Thanks in advance
The keys are the most important part of a good midi keyboard. How do these feel? Do you still use this?
+1000 everything else is totally irrelevant if they response/feel is crap
I was about to get myself a Komplete kontrol 49 mk2 and now this came out.. being at the same price range I'm leaning more towards NI's controller and its scale mode/NKS.. But these new keylabs just look so fucking classy... I own a V Collection 6 license, what would you guys do?
Could you help me decide between Arturia Keylab49 mk2 vs Novation SL MK3.
I'm very, very torn between the reviews as of now. Im a beginner level musician, producer.
I use Abelton Live aswell as Reaper.
I've heard that with the SL mk3 if you press the keys hard and fast, you will recieve start to "pivot" and the end of the key (in the back) will hit the top of the inside of the case. Causing a very noticeable "clack" noise. Im not sure if this is intended. It does seem that the Arturia keylab mk2 has higher build quality but then again it is also heavier.
Would I need a audio-interface with any of the 2? Or would normal PC soundboard suffice. Obviously there would be difference but how significant would it be? What budget friendly, do the job audio-interface would you recommend in that case.
Aswell as if I would get the audio-interface could I connect it to portable bluetooth speaker with usb to midi connection? If not what would be the way to connect any of the 2 to a portable, bluetooth like speaker.
I know a lot of noob questions but any help is highly appreciated! :)
hey! i’m really interested in producing, i know nothing about music theory and i’m just someone that’s in love with beats and music, what would you recommend for me to do, what equipment should i start with and do i need to know music theory in order to star creating? thank you!!
I'm looking for a controller for live playing. How does the quality of the keys and hardware feel? The playing action is important to me. I expect that's hard to answer without me actually trying one out.
if you buy one of these used, do you still get the analog lab? thanks!
would this keyboard work in cakewalk on the DAW setting? I have a minilab MK2 that works well on it but i love this keyboard and its features . It has much more range for my arturia analog lab software. However i like working on cakewalk and wonder if it this keyboard will still work even though cakewalk isnt in thier daw settings. Anyways, keep up the great work!
I was actually looking to pick up the Essentials version of this controller simply for the form factor, as it fits on my keyboard tray under my desk and the Axiom 49 Gen 2 (my current controller) does not, but seeing what all the Keylab Mk II is capable of is selling me on the price jump. Just one question though I feel you didn't really cover in your videos: has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
.....Thank you, very much, Patrick!.... Could this kind of "MIDI Controller" be used to any advantage, with an electric, or electric/acoustic guitar?!,... (...vs just the included "keyboard")?!.....
Patrick, nice video, are the rotary knobs endless encoders?
hey man. Would be more intresting to know till what extence we can use the keyboard in the daw with as les mouse actions as posible. like swithing through tracks mixers, recording re-recording etc
+1!
how do you get analog lab to integrate with logic?? i have been trying for a while and i cant figure it out. Great review by the way👍🙃
how is the sensitivity on the knob? On my minilab it constantly over shoots because the sensitivity is too high. Also are the keya weighted like on the 88?
We need to be talking that backwards baseball cap and that whole Scott Baio from Joannie Loves Chachi look.
Thanks for the video! I have a Roland Juno DS-61 and am slowly realizing that it’s not so great as a midi controller :/
Gotta question Patrick.. How did you assign drums to the pads while using the keys for chords, melodies? I’m using Studio One and I’d like to use that feature
i would also like to know
I bought the Arturia MKII 49 and I don't want to run the power through my laptop do they sell a seperate wall charger + usb cable solution or a power adapter ?
I dont know how how to play the any keys or no anything about it. But i just started getting into beat making and i wanna learn keys and chords. I have an mpk mini but i wanted something more piano like. Should i get this while im on the road to learning how to play ?
Video was 40% Arturia and 60% Patrick. But still was a good video
Have you got it working with different DAWs? Any videos for that? I'm trying to figure out if I'll be able to use it with Bitwig, Reason, & Waveform. I also have FL Studio, but I'm guessing that it already works well, unfortunately, I don't use FL that much.
Hey does you’re keyboard work with the FL? I just don’t want to buy this keyboard if it’s not compatible to the DAW I’m interested in purchasing.
As stated @ 8:51 "very nice"!
how do you use the pads for drums when in daw mode? for me it only works in user mode
Does the keylab essentials have the same daw integration with Logic?
I will very much appreciate if you tell me witch one of this will be better for me and why. Keystep Pro and KeyLab mk2. I want to create multiple samples and play all in the same time. Thanks
Also how does it it work in Catalina OS as well as Logic Pro X 10.5
I am using arturia keylab essential 61..but i am not satisfied with their lite weight keys...what about keylab 61 mk ii?
Any comparrisons you can make to the Keybed? All the bells and whistles dont matter if the keybed isnt of a certain wuality IMO.
Great video though. Thanks much for your time spent putting this together.
Paul Gibson hey man! Appreciate the kind words. The Key bed is the best Arturia offers. It’s the same key bed that they put in their matrix brute synth (which is like $2000). I don’t own any analog synths to reference and tell you “it’s feels like this...” but I can assure you that it’s really nice. Far nicer than any MIDI keyboard I’ve played, that’s for sure.
Can anybody else comment on this?
Hi I have a question the keyboard have input for mixer?
