    What a blessing in a cursed time of history. This was decades before the Emancipation Proclamation.
    The good doctor did right by mamma & son. Freedom & education meant opportunity.
    By God’s Grace this family was ahead of the ball. This was a personal blessing for Lionel and his loved ones.
    This family story shines light out of pain & suffering. One person can make a difference in the lives of generations to come. Remarkable.

      If he wasn't a rapist (which sounds likely) we know he was a slave owner so I find calling a known slave owner and suspected rapist 'the good doctor' more then problematic..

    We can “only speculate” .
    Slaves carried a significant cash value. That and that alone ruled if the directives within a will were carried out by the administrator(s). An it wasn’t uncommon for such directives to be at best ignored or even legally overturned.
