I have the old Widder heated gear, and I don't even bother with the thermostatic controls. I just plug it direct to the bike. I do have a switch to turn it off if it gets too warm, though. I have a similar problem with circulation in my hands. My left index finger will start losing it's color when it's 60 degrees out.

My experience with Gerbing is that it works best with just a long sleeve shirt under the vest and layer on the outside. This way, the vest isn't insulated much from your body for better heat transfer and the outside is protected more from the wind chill. This helps to keep the vest/liner from getting overpowered by the cold air.

Just gonna say... never saw anyone riding and doing handstands so I truly believe you have a niche market on this one. As far as the gear, sounds great. Doesn't get that cold in Texas, but riding elsewhere in the U.S. I can see where it would be really useful. Great review and video. Thanks.

Thank You for the review. I'm looking for heated gear like this. It came up on my Facebook page and I was waiting for you to give your feedback before I pulled the trigger. I have a question for you before I do. It's about the gloves. My hands get cold quick fingers turn white and go numb with pins and needles. Are the gloves heated real good? From the picture on the page the wires look to go around the fingers need finger warmth most of all. I have battery gloves for now. They do OK most of the time. Just looking for better heated gear. I Value your opinion hope to hear from you soon. Thank You again!!

I live in the White Mountains of NH. I wear First Gear heated gear. I have jacket liner, pant liner, socks and gloves. This brand is a lot less bulky but very warm. I only wear a thin layer underneath jacket and pant. I also have HD heated grips. They are the slim ones. It has to be around 35 or less to wear heated gloves. Very “ hot” product. I usually tuck wires under my thigh and keep control accessible. Thx for all your videos!

I have also found the liners work best with a thermal or some long sleeve shirt as a base. Then the liner and then a hoodie over that. I find the heated collar actually helps heat the helmet as well with the hoodie over it and helmet over the hoodie! Gerbing also makes a bluetooth controller that has much less wiring to tuck. Then of course Gerbing makes an outer heated jacket with the glove plugs on the outside. Which makes it much easier to access. They also make kind of a hybrid 12v gloves that can be plugged into the sleeve plugs or their 12v batteries.
Now lastly I would suggest checking Milwaukee leather. They offer nice looking heated leather chaps, jacket and gloves. All with built in controllers for less wiring as well as its all dual power. So it can run on their included 7v batteries as well! Chaps don't come with a free battery like the jacket and gloves though. They also have women specific Chaps and gear for the lady!

some of my original heated gear, didn't get controller just an off on, ended up burning self. found having moderate clothing under gear help not burning and stay comfy. the gloves have hard time, ya think be made with less palm padding and put more on the backside so easy for handle bar controls like normal gloves. i used the gear also when worked as a game warden in wi, was a way to make more enjoyable being in below zero temps.

I ride without heated gear but I'm very warm blooded. I just put on some long underwear and layer from there and I'm good except for my fingers. I've been thinking about getting heated gloves because my fingertips do get cold. The rest of my body is pretty well protected because my bike has a well-designed windshield and leg fairings. Now that I've watched you guys' ride in VA, W.VA and western MD, I want to skip work this week and head west to Front Royal or Luray VA. It's beautiful out there this time of year. I did a solo Thanksgiving Day ride out to Luray and enjoyed the heck out of it. I want to go back! Great work on the review! Keep the fun videos coming!

I saw this on another channel. This rider suggested that, if possible, have the controls within easy access. That way, if you become too warm while riding, you will be able to adjust the temperature while on the move, instead of having to pull over and stop.
Meg, you have an advantage over Cameraman. You can walk with your handstand. Cameraman has to remain stationary with his headstand. It's good that the two of you have fun on your rides!

🛑🛑 Meg…Speaking from my own experience and my own bike….
Given your medical conditions, just install Heated Grips and “possibly” a Heated Seat.
The Harley Grips are “very warm”, and I’m able to ride in the 40’s without gloves and a light jacket when your butt is warm. 😂👍💯
With the equipment already installed on your bike, you will never be “caught without you heated gear.😀💯👍
My wife sometimes turns on her side of the Heated Seat when we are riding through the rain in the summer💯👍.

Hi Meg 👋 and Mike , hey this was a really enjoyable video 👍 You should've called it Trials and Errors of Heated Gear 😁 I personally have never worn any heated gear and I have rode when it was in the teens , and I Soooooo remember feeling like the Marshmallow man from Ghostbusters because of multiple layers. But as with all things with riding , you just keep on trying different things till you come up with the right combo , that allows you to stay warm and not feel overly bulky 👍 Good to see you both , and I hope that your upcoming week goes well and quickly Counselor 😊

Michael, my Grandpa would always stand on his head at family gatherings. He was 88 years old the last time I saw him do it, so...you potentially have a long time to enjoy your upsidedownness. The actual gerbings heated pants. All the cords tuck neatly into the pant pocket. The controller clips to the outside. Done.
