I'm amazed at your patience in constantly refuting obviously stupid anagram-based "decryption" methods where the "key size" (permutation) that the person puts into the message is as big (in terms of information theory) as the message they are getting out. In other words, they themselves have supplied essentially all the information they are claiming to get out.
The most striking thing for me that verifies the successful 408 and 340 decryptions are correct is that the style, tone and voice is the same in both messages. All of these anagram solutions just sound like a disconnected jumble of words because that’s all they are.

As soon as someone says that they found the zodiac's name in one of the letters, I immediately doubt what they're saying. Maybe I'm wrong, (hey, I've been wrong before), but I believe there's no way the zodiac would have put his name in any of the letters.

That actually made sense, as both N's are placed to non Alphabetic characters forming double letters. All other letters equal one character to another character, but must be the same character as you did it. And spelling, It's the same as Z340, word "Will" written normally, then "ECIDARAP" written reversed. You are onto something.
I do believe the riverside murder is part of zodiac, but for different reasons than this team does. I should make a video with my reasoning as it would be less tedious than trying to type it all out in a comment section.
I think it being on Halloween matches but other than that I do not think it was related even though certain aspects were similar. I think that the letter from the Cheri Jo Bates does not match Zodiac's style at all and is not convincing but other aspects could be confused for Zodiac reasonably.
I think the Code Breakers came closer to solving this case than the Case Breakers because I know from the Halloween card and the Z13 cipher that it was Xenophon and there isn't an anagram that tells me differently?
Couldn't this be easily checked against the "my name is" cypher? (16:09) "Gary F. Poste" consists of 10 unique characters (3 short - Gary Francis Poste would be too long), but the cypher has the A twice, M twice, N twice and the circle three times. So no matter how you arrange them, even if you count spaces and the period as a character, which would bring the count up to 13, there's no possible way it could match. Or am I missing something?
The key to a cypher can be longer than the encoded message. The my name is cypher is likely not a reveal, but rather another puzzle. I think it was created in response to critics at the time claiming he was an amateur that didn't really understand cyphers. If there is any take away from the post card, it's that you don't have to break a cypher if you are the intended recipient. You would just use the key. I believe the keys for solving all the puzzles are hidden in the letters and cryptograms he sent out. If he ever really included his name it's probably in one of the keys.
Great video. I was wondering why it got so much media coverage. Now I know that Julin is one of their own with links to MSM Nationwide. If one of their own solves the zodiac it makes them all look intelligent.
Gary poste is definitely an interesting character that belongs at the discussion. But at the end of the day he’s nothing more than a suspect in a long list of suspects. All of the evidence linking him to the zodiac is circumstantial.
What is actually circumstantial is barely even circumstantial (he was in the military and had the same size shoe? WHOA), and everything else is illogical nonsense (the wet piece of wood, the forehead wrinkles, the anagrams).
the one that stood out for me is that posht is in one of the cyphers. the other is the phrase ebeo riet emeth hpiti from the 1st cypher. handwriting and dna are keys. other questions to ask was paul stine killed by the zodiac or someone else?
The evidence is circumstantial (which isn't necessarily a deal breaker). But the nonsense about anagrams cannot be counted as evidence. However, I do wonder why the police would be relunctant to test his DNA. They can use PCR for DNA testing if they are worried about destroying the source. The coordinates to her body are somewhat intriguing - but we have learned through all of the decrypted messages so far that Zodiac did not talk in broken English. His writing was very straightforward and grammatical despite the (likely intentional) misspellings. So "Collect telephone trunk call, who? Gary Francis Poste." does not seem like something the Zodiac would write. But "let it snow, let it snow, let it snow" does...so it's inconclusive at best.
I had thought the scars was only thing they had and that it was certainly a start. Thanks for putting this all in perspective. It's odd though that it does line it up with the C in paradice. But we have a good reason for why things were misspelt.
I could tell the story was nonsense given the lack of substantive evidence to back their claims. It’d be one thing if they could provide the cipher solutions they claimed to have, but it’s all loose circumstantial hearsay at best.
Thanks David! Always great to have your thoughtful insights into aspects of this case. Looking forward to hearing more about the French guy's story you mentioned as well. Any progress in breaking those other two nasties yet ;)
So looking forward to your take on this, very much appreciate your diligent perspective. Although the more I look at the Poste photos, the more believable the possibility feels. I hope more evidence shows up.
Thank you for putting this together! I saw all these reports and didn't have the time to go through it all, this was perfect I will be sharing this around.
Anyone noticed that the misspelled letters in the plaintext @ 14:11 mark (a, o, a, l, h, e, v, v) when corrected form: u, s, u, i, n, i, k, k. Which anagrams to Inuksuk, an Innuit word for a manmade stone landmark or cairn. The inuksuk may historically have been used for navigation, as a point of reference, a marker for travel routes, fishing places, camps, hunting grounds, places of veneration, drift fences used in hunting, or to mark a food cache. The Iñupiat in northern Alaska used inuksuit to assist in the herding of caribou into contained areas for slaughter.
The Case Breakers are definitely washed up and full of shit lol. Their methods clearly aren't scientific and the fact they wont show their work shows us they don't want to be scrutinized but believed. Great analysis!

Also want to ask a question if you get the chance. Do you think it’s even possible to solve this case? I mean do you think there is enough dna and or evidence in general to EVENTUALLY close it at some point in the future?
what's worse about this "story" is that they are jumping on a trending topic thanks to the legitimate work of others, making a scarecrow out of a dead person based that they know can't defend themselves based on random points of interest "oh look he wore size 10 boots too, and not only that did you ever see the zodiac killer and him in the same room......no....checkmate looooosers" lets just ignore that there is millions of other people who could wear size 10 boots, and the fact that with a killer as cryptic and methodical as the zodiac killer it might stand to reason that he would wear oversized or undersized shoes when committing the murders to create more of a mess for investigators with them hunting down people with size 10 feet when he couldve just took a random boot with him and slapped it on the floor at the crime scene as a red herring just for the lulz
I don't understand how they got a footprint in the first place anyways. Did Zodiac lose a shoe or something? How do they know said print was Zodiac's over many other people. How did they know the shoeprint looked like even if they knew what shoe Zodiac wore? There is an official explanation to these questions I think but still it is unsatisfactory to me and does not make sense with general logic. Zodiac is not telling you exactly where he stepped so a footprint can be identified.

David, please forgive my slightly off topic comment - to go back to your marvelous solution of the cipher. Two thoughts ...1. Why wasn't it solved earlier? As complex as it was, is it not true to say it was ultimately a brute-force solving of a relatively straightforward cipher method? With enough computing power at the authorities' disposal, why did it take you guys on your laptop computers to crack it? ....2. Is it possible that this was indeed solved years ago, but since it didn't reveal any particularly important information they (FBI? NSA? etc) decided it might be better to sit on it, hoping the original Zodiac might be tempted to get back in touch to taunt them about his genius, unsolvable cipher and unwittingly provide possible new clues to his identity? Just a thought.
It took so long to solve because of how unusual it ended up being. If it was a "normal" transposition cipher, it would have probably been solved long ago. But it had 3 sections, a shifted line, and 6 characters that interrupted the transposition in the 2nd section. Those factors made it practically impossible to solve without branching out from the usual kinds of cryptanalysis. For those same reasons, I think the answer to your 2nd question is probably that nobody was sitting on a solve all this time.
@@doranchak @David Oranchak this! Sure, many people/fbi etc. Tried to solve it, but there is a point you begin questioning yourself, if you rather spend your time on a maybe unsolveable riddle and "mythos" of a killer or try to solve 100 recent crimes or problems.. Ngl I am fascinated by the ciphers and the history of it, but in the end i am even more fascinated by the work and methods of the solving process of the people which get believable results with the case and ciphers. Personally, I always thought the zodiac symbol and its geometry may give clues or messages in the ciphers, but gave up after some attempts..
I have an observation. We actually had a valuable information deciphering the Z340. In previous puzzles, the zodiac was hesitant about giving his name because he didn't collect enough slaves. But now as in Z340, because he collected enough slaves; he feels it's time to give his actual name in the Z13. Now that we know from the Z340 that he collected enough slaves, the Z13 isn't a hoax. It's real. His name is definitely there in Z13. That is in my opinion the role of the Z340, to let us know that Z13 is real.
Random question, Was any of the Zodiac's DNA ever recovered from any of his letters or the crime scenes? and if so has any law enforcment agency compared to the suspects like Arthur Leigh Allen and the others?
I'm amazed at your patience in constantly refuting obviously stupid anagram-based "decryption" methods where the "key size" (permutation) that the person puts into the message is as big (in terms of information theory) as the message they are getting out.
Go for it
I think it being on Halloween matches but other than that I do not think it was related even though certain aspects were similar. I think that the letter from the Cheri Jo Bates does not match Zodiac's style at all and is not convincing but other aspects could be confused for Zodiac reasonably.
Poste IS NOT the Zodiac..!
I think the Code Breakers came closer to solving this case than the Case Breakers because I know from the Halloween card and the Z13 cipher that it was Xenophon and there isn't an anagram that tells me differently?
I like how she said it was “correct in her opinion” like her opinion means diddly squat 😂😂
I’ve been down the zodiac rabbit hole n I think it’s him. I could be wrong but I don’t think so. I really want to see the documentary
Thank you! This was so useful. I was so skeptical about this new info
We dont know, and may never know, whether zodiac actually put his name in that cipher. So you can’t use it to definitively prove wrong names.
Not to mention you need to take out the letters/characters of his full name first.
Alfred E. Neuman
Alfred E. Neuman.
Finally!! I'm so glad to see another one of your videos again!! Thanks for all the hard work!! 💕
Zodiac literally sent pieces of Paul Stine’s shirt, I think it’s him
thx dude, realy appriciate ur doin.... sumtimes its need someone to hold everyones hohrses(?) dunnno, not a native toungue.... but luv ya
Zodiac - Caidoz. I wonder if there is a Mr. Caidoz.
Great analysis of what's available so to speak 🙊
Ever since the seawater tapes/interviews I'm sure ALA was the zodiac.
Allen was a creep but the physical evidence just doesn't match him for Z.
"We are unable to speak to potential suspects because this is an ongoing investigation". Oh man... what kind of sense does that make??
The phrasing is poor because it's ambiguous, but they mean "speak to" in the sense of "speak about" or "comment on", not "speak with".
@@jacksonallan954 and all the suspects are dead, perhaps a humorous double entendre
Z13... 13 characters... ROSS M SULLIVAN... Is there any way of finding out any pattern to get this result?
I'm sure you can figure out a way to do that.
This makes more sense now. Day 1 I couldn't find much on their claims other than the fox news report.
great series!!! the second video of this series is no longer available, can you re-upload it?
Always brilliant videos, David. Thanks so much.
Thanks for watching!
Welcome back legend! Glad to hear your take on this.
15:03 We know Zodiac's gender because he sent his messages via mail, not femail.
Thanks David. Seems like a cash/publicity grab and nothing more.
The Case Breakers are definitely washed up and full of shit lol. Their methods clearly aren't scientific and the fact they wont show their work shows us they don't want to be scrutinized but believed. Great analysis!
A witness saw him burying weapons in a location so remote that it requires a helicopter to get to?
Yeah I guess GFP had access to a helicopter and a pilot. A pilot who never talked about gun burying flights. Or the witness is the pilot. Or it's a bunch of garbage,
Wish I could like this video multiple times.
can you show us how the mt diablo (spanish for devil - clue?) map code works please? i'm in the uk so of course can't get age correct maps of the area.
Run the DNA, if it´s a match go from there and if it´s not then we can lay this guy to rest...
Thanks so much for this, I was really hoping you'd cover the story, fascinating watch as always!
As I suspected!
Also want to ask a question if you get the chance. Do you think it’s even possible to solve this case? I mean do you think there is enough dna and or evidence in general to EVENTUALLY close it at some point in the future?
Yes, I think it's possible. I'm optimistic that they have enough DNA evidence to eventually solve the case.
what's worse about this "story" is that they are jumping on a trending topic thanks to the legitimate work of others, making a scarecrow out of a dead person based that they know can't defend themselves based on random points of interest "oh look he wore size 10 boots too, and not only that did you ever see the zodiac killer and him in the same room......no....checkmate looooosers"
lets just ignore that there is millions of other people who could wear size 10 boots, and the fact that with a killer as cryptic and methodical as the zodiac killer it might stand to reason that he would wear oversized or undersized shoes when committing the murders to create more of a mess for investigators with them hunting down people with size 10 feet when he couldve just took a random boot with him and slapped it on the floor at the crime scene as a red herring just for the lulz
Zodiac is not telling you exactly where he stepped so a footprint can be identified.
finally a new episode! love this series
New episode! Yaaaaaay
Always a good day when you post. Thanks!
Does anyone have Poste’s hand writing ???
Thanks for the sober analysis
r.h. on the desk. robert hansen. "birds fly south" he had his own plane and was caught when one of the women he abducted escaped as he was bundling her into it. he liked to hunt his victims. paradise area of LA right next to the airport. donna lass and jeanette kamehele missing from zodiac territory and two unidentified bodies found in alaska. jewellery in alaska looks dated. being a hunter he surely had a big freezer so dates of events could be skewed by years. i think it was organised crime as there is camp richardson at lake tahoe and also richardson bay in alaska. uk map bench marks symbol used in zodiac cipher.
what connects the two locations? an earthquake in 1906 high fatalities at both places.
Brilliant video. Thank you!
The link I added is also more info on the team leading this and why they aren’t reliable
Welcome back :)
That is in my opinion the role of the Z340, to let us know that Z13 is real.
i know how to get one name from z13 for sure. but im unsure if that is the complete encipherment of that cipher.
Maybe he actually did put his name in the Z340 too.
Random question, Was any of the Zodiac's DNA ever recovered from any of his letters or the crime scenes? and if so has any law enforcment agency compared to the suspects like Arthur Leigh Allen and the others?
I think bizarrely they did and it didn’t match him.
