Just some perspective. When it comes to buying dairy (eggs, milk, butter) given that prices are high for everything, do your community a favor. Buy from local dairies. Support farms in your area. I’m finding local dairy costs are now much the same as the mega brands. Same with produce. Buy local, in season - especially if it’s on sale.
I managed to find someone local who has a jersey cow and was willing to sell me 4 litres per week. It’s cheaper than my store prices, but I have to drive 20 minutes to get it. Still worth it because I can’t digest the milk from the store.
When I was really on a tight budget, I first scanned the sale flyers and planned my meals (and list) around that. Back in 1973 my grocery budget was $25 a week for a family of three, and that included cleaning supplies! Two of us packed our lunches too.
Adjusting that for 50 years of inflation, that's around 170$ now. USD to CAD makes that 217$ CAD for one week? That's 850$ a month for 3 people? That's... actually a lot of money. Cheap for 3 people now would be like 400$ a month. Super budget for 1 person is like 200$ a month or even less if you're fine with lots of rice and legumes. hashtagperspective.
@@GodOfReality that is a lot of money. I spend around $100-150 a week for a family of 6 and I’m still trying to keep it on the low end. It’s getting harder to do.
I can remember in mid 70's, the prices going up constantly. They didn't go up this fast and product was available. That was right in the middle of the oil price stuff. If people don't understand what the cost of energy does to everyday prices by now, they never will.
My grocery list includes my meal plan at the bottom. If I can't get ingredients or don't want to purchase an item because of the price I can see which meal is impacted and switch out the meal or adjust it. I also write my grocery list in groupings; dairy in one group, meat/poultry, veggies and fruits. It's easier to shop and keep track of the costs. Lastly, I start shopping in the meat/poultry section. Those deals and substitutions tend to have the biggest impact on whether I change a meal plan. Easier to swap a different veg, pasta, etc. for the expense/unavailable planned items.
I love this idea! I always write out my meal plan but it never occurred to me to add it to the bottom of my shipping list. You're totally right, that would be so convenient to figure out a substitute when an ingredient I need isn't available
I do like the content creator and keep needs in mind but the week or 2 ahead all depends on the great finds or sales I can find. Sometimes it's not our favorite foods and sometimes it is. I can say that lately I've found whole pork tenderloins on sale for 1.49/pound and the butcher will slice and tenderize free.... I have a lot of pork tenderloin in my freezer for sure! I've also found whole beef tenderloins they've recently frozen for 5.49/pound that is 100% USA and stocked up on it. That's cheaper than the burger atm! I too go straight to meat to strategize around what I find on sale.
This year I switched to only buying whole chickens instead of specific cuts. About every 5-6 weeks one of my grocery store will run a .99/lb sale on while chickens, and then I buy the limit (usually 2). I live alone, so I roasted chicken usually gives me plenty of meat for a whole week and I freeze some. I also look for manager's stickers on meat when they mark it down a day or two before the sell-by date and then throw it in my freezer.
@@bookmusingsus You can roast your whole chicken in the oven in a dutch oven with the lid on. Collect the juices and fats rendered during cooking and incorporate that into your broth also.
I use to do that but I haven't seen a whole chicken for .99 lb in years in my area. They are very expensive. At Costco you can buy a rotisserie chicken way cheaper than a raw whole chicken. Makes no sense to me.
She's no where near California prices though! That's why some people are sooooo wrong in their guesses... they are the tourists on vacation! They forget all the prices are based on Cali prices! ( ps I know you meant this as a joke...but just sharing inside info! Lol)
My boyfriend and I have been together nearly a year, and I have shown him your videos. His mom tends to just go for whatever with no meal plans, and we like to meal plan now before we go to the store. We also shop at our Aldi and dollar store because WHY NOT! You have honestly taught us so much, so thank you !
I feel very fortunate. I’m not sure if there is better access to local farms or if it’s our state’s location, but there seems to be plenty in the stores. Prices have gone up for sure but not like some of the other states. I feel for our Canadian neighbors. The farther north the cost is always crazy. ☹️ I do love that there are ways to donate to help others who are seriously suffering from inflation. I also appreciate all of the volunteers here in Utah who give their time to our church dairy and canary, which donates copious supplies around the country/world. 🥰 There are always ways to help others, sharing knowledge and skills, not just physically and monetarily. Love you all!
I love the clips with Kimberly Whisk! I try to cut my family of 7's grocery budget by grocery shopping 1x a month (other than extra trips for more milk and a loaf of bread). I have a ginormous garden, 30 hens and make almost everything from scratch. Except fresh sandwich bread every...single...day. Because I'm efficient!
@@Metqa Unfortunately my ladies aren't free-ranging since we're technically 1 or 2 houses inside city limits (not allowed in our town) and have agressive neighbor dogs. But my girls have a large cabin-ish coop we built 4 yrs ago (as a disguise) and plenty of fenced run. Our property is 3+ acres but the garden is only about 1500 sq ft of raised beds, with fruit trees, berry bushes, grapes vines and green stalk planters on the outside of the fenced garden. I'm also jusy started growing herbs, lettuces, tomatoes, peppers and squash inside year-round.
I'm grateful for all the tips I have learned on your channel over the last year or so. Every time I go into the grocery store, I head straight for the clearance section so see what I can find and possibly swap out for the more expensive ingredients I was planning on purchasing.
I thank God I work at an H‑E‑B grocery . We get 10%- 25% off throughout the year off the already competed prices. I Pray for all the families that need help because even as a single household I see it can be difficult. It helped me provide for my mother also, which I lost from Covid last August. My love to you all!
It’s crazy in Alaska. Our food prices are higher than the lower 48 but it’s doubled on so many items! Budgeting and meal planning is how we get by each month. We usually shop at multiple stores but with gas prices so high I may only be going to one store. Thanks for sharing!!
You could go through sale flyers for different stores online to cut back on trips. Most stores have ways to go through inventory and look up prices online. Research before I go saves me trips to the stores.
However, I found Alaska prices were cheaper than Canadian prairie prices. That being said the vids I all watched was from big stores like Costco and Safeway.
I agree with you about the soda! My sister finally gave up soda and lost 10 lbs and replaced it with carbonated water. She was inspired with the weight loss that she cut carbs and lost a total of 45 lbs and gained money in her wallet lol
Wow that is so awesome 👏 I am an avid pop drinker and I’m trying to figure out a way to stop 🛑 I only drink sprite so it’s not a caffeine thing it’s the carbonation and I’ve tried all the carbonated waters and they are gross, even tried the soda stream! So if anyone here knows a good way to cut the pop out I welcome any suggestions 😊 And kudos to your sister that is so awesome 👏
I gave up soda for lent this year (as well as ice cream), but the past few years I have been drinking more water than soda. I used to drink about four or five cans of Diet Coke a day. But these days I can just as easily have water or flavored seltzer.
My best way to cut back on budget is to eat less dairy products, meat and processed ready to eat food (We are a vegetarian family so that helps). Overall, prices are up but can still find great sales especially if you're flexible. I found organic apples on sale for $0.99 a pound and broccoli was on sale for $0.97 a pound. Mangos in my area 37 cents each right now. Deals can be found.
Cut out milk altogether; it's one of the main causes for breast, ovarian, and prostate cancer - in addition to acne, osteoporosis, oral lichen planus, etc., etc. Milk is for a calf until it grows into a big cow.
@@katalinhalom7960 The first thing my doctor told me to do was change my diet after I was diagnosed with cancer. I was very lucky to have a doctor that viewed nutrition as part of the healing process.
@@kimsmith819 I'm from texas and ate meat in *everything* my entire life and my husband hates vegetables, but going vegan was actually really easy for us! You should look into some substitutes. Animal products are actually mostly paid for by taxes, that's why they've always looked so cheap on the shelf. Now that the pandemic has caused tax dollars to go to different things, animal products sky rocketed while plant based products have stayed the same or even got cheaper. You'd be surprised at the amazing substitutes you can find when you know where to look! 😉
I always plan my weekly meals after what is on sale that week. I stock up on the items on sale and save for later. It helps me keep my food budget low (as low as I can with 4 kids) But I have to since I am a single mom so it is essential for me and my family. And we are not starving or feeling deprived 🙌🏼
I love the clips with Kim! Ya'll are two of my top 3 UA-cam! Meal planning has saved me a fortune. Sometimes I do change recipes when things are on sale.
Food prices are ridiculous right now. We're paying for the loss of so many crops due to bad weather and drought in some areas. Plus the higher gas climbs, we'll pay again for that. I'm glad I stocked up when things were less expensive and I prepped over a period of time. We might not always have fresh, but we'll eat, I hope. Good to see you do this video. You help so many of us and I really appreciate you Christine. 🤗
Hi, thank you fir this great video. We are moving to US in a few months and I'm wondering how to find the right quality/ price balance. Obviously, we cannot go all organic and it is probably not needed. For example, is non organic milk awfully stuffed with hormones? Where to find fruits with low level of contaminents? What are the products we have to be most careful about? Etc.. It would be very interesting to get your feedback. Thank you
I always buy carrots, onions, celery, Roma tomatoes and some form of cheese. I rarely buy meat. I keep a good stock of other veggies, beans, rice and pasta. I also try to keep grits and oats.
Thanks for taking us shopping! I definitely try to eat something before I go shopping and I don’t do big shopping when I’m in a hurry. It takes time to make good decisions on saving money, meal ideas, stocking up, etc. 🥰
keep powdered milk on hand. mix 1\2 milk & 1/2 powdered mixed made milk. I'm in Iowa and Your prices out west is really always higher...!Shop at large chain stores
I have celiac disease so everything I buy has to be gluten free. I pay 4.00 for a loaf of bread which is equalaint to a half a loaf of a reg bread., Flour is 3.89 for a 1 lb box, cookies run 3.89. And I shop at Walmart the cheapest place to get gluten free food in our area.
Shopping at multiple stores rocks! I check my ads, load digital coupons, and schedule pick up at 5 stores that are within 2 blocks of each other. We only buy when items are on sale AND I have a coupon and yes we do have a home stock pile.
I had been looking for years for a good non-stick pan. I received my Misen last month, using one of your available discount and I absolutely adore it. We use it daily over here, my teenager says she has a hard time with her eggs because it "slides" too much, she's not use to it... What a nice problem! I'm always waiting for the one best deal and the day I put in my order, the 12inch had cost me only 105$ shipping included and I live in Canada. So thanks to you!
I went to Aldie's 3 days ago. Boneless chx breast 1.99lb, gal of 2% milk 2.55, doz of lg. eggs 1.79. It does pay to be flexible checking flyer's, meal planning, and checking freezer, pantry, and refrig for things to use up. The soda I get is still .99 for a 2 L so I still get my 1 per week. Not flexible on that so far!
One of the best tips I got was to ask the person working by the eggs for a box of broken eggs the entire box is $4-$5 and my box had a total of 5 broken eggs that I threw away and it was missing 3-4 eggs. I got over 200 eggs in the end after broken eggs.
@@alilbitoferika1367 Last week where I live 12 medium eggs was $1.69. So yes thats a big difference for me. If I calculate(close to the price)200 eggs is just over 16 dozen eggs so thats $27.04 for 16 dozen eggs. And in my box I got all large or extra large eggs and several organic eggs which means I saved even more if those were the eggs I was going to buy.
@@SarahSmile6 i bought a 15 dozen box of eggs last month at sam's club for $25-30 and got maybe a dozen broken ones so yes i think that's a good deal you got. I'll go ahead and give it a try since my nearest Sam's club is almost 2 hours away

I love that you included clips of Kim! She’s great! And I think it’s crazy how the area you live makes such a difference. Lots of stuff is double the cost where I live. I’m in Florida. And the cost of everything is outrageous
We replaced soda in our house by making a gallon of iced tea every day. It costs SIGNIFICANTLY less (especially when you buy off-brand or on sale tea bags) and when soda is just an occasional treat (local gas station sells fountain soda for 89 cents any size) I actually enjoy it even more! But we don't buy gas there - we live 15 minutes from a gas station across the state line where we can fill up for 80 cents less per gallon!
Yes! My family has a soda stream and an ice coffee machine (which can work for single serve ice tea) and we just keep a container of loose leaf tea for some flavor!
I have a $40/week budget for my family of 3. It’s very challenging but I also really enjoy the challenge. I usually end up going to 3 stores and shopping all of their loss leaders for the week. Sometimes I can even stock up! Safeways has ice cream for 22 cents this week! Crazy. So is it difficult and time consuming- yes. Can it be done? Also, yes.
I know, often the distance dimensions in the US are huge compared to where I live. How does the calculation of food budget and the gas budget correlate and do you buy on three shops weekly? mothly?
@@nursen2106 for me... prior to all the gas price shenanigans going on currently... I could recoup gas savings in one items worth of savings on the loss leaders... if you think our cars go 14 to 40 miles per gallon these days... yes some people are very rural...but not MOST OF US... 1 MAYBE 2 gallons(if I add aldi on to my trip)
I basically buy the same things monthly, mentally knowing which stores have what cheapest, and wing it on meal plans according to what goes bad first, leftovers I can incorporate ect
Thank you!! Rising prices of EVERYTHING has made me have to cut back from twice a month grocery trips to once a month…your tips help me and my husband feel like we aren’t missing out on too many things and not spending a lot.
Christine, thank you, thank you, thank you for addressing these issues right now. We all need these perspectives from you and other UA-camrs right now. Thank you for all the tips. I too try to buy things on sale or at discount stores.
I live in a community with a church that does "food rescue" - FREE food for the community. It's not a food pantry although the food pantry is also heavily supported in this community. They get pallets and pallets on a weekly basis full of food that is nearing the sell by or expiration date - all from local stores. They have shelves full of Panera breads, produce, dairy, cereal, snacks, etc. And it's all free to members of the community. It's so much fun to shop there and rescue all these foods that would otherwise end up in a landfill.
I'm in New Zealand and food prices have gone up significantly here too. It insane. Im on a benefit and I'm trying to adapt. I've been living off welfare for over 7 years now (mental health reasons) and I've done fine but i am shocked at the prices these days. Thanks for your help Christine!!
Those of us who are retired are on a tight budget too. I know how you feel. Gas here in California is approaching seven dollars a gallon. Never thought I would see prices like this. Good luck to you.
I live in northern Canada, and these prices are ridiculously low. Though, I am very concerned about food prices rising where I live. Thank you for these videos. I'm sure they will help a lot of people at the moment.
@@nowanadettling8574 I know right! We have a Flashfood App where I live. Most things are half price, so I buy meat and put it in the freezer. The only downside is that it only has a couple of days before the sell-by date.
I just moved from MI to FL. I had planned on donating my groceries, but with the price increases I decided I really needed to bring them with me. I couldn't afford to get rid of it all right now. Thank you for reminding me that I need to get out something for dinner
I’m moving states too and I’m planning on bring my groceries too… I’ve never done that but seeing how expensive stuff is if it’ll definitely save us money since moving is already so expensive
Ooo, mercy, I'm feeling the prices here in Central KY!! I went to Kroger last night and caught their 1 lb packages of Angus 80/20 ground beef for 2.99. I got 6 of them. Boneless, skinless chicken breasts were still 1.99/lb at Kroger, but the whole chickens at Meijer was $10 last night!. I work mostly remote, so on the days I go into work, I look at the sale ads to see if there's anything I can pick up on my way home. I've created a spreadsheet to keep track of prices at three of the major stores around on the items we use most. It's a little tight, but just like everything else, we'll weather through it! Love your channel, Christine!!
If you need the large sheet cake for an upcoming party...scrape of the frosting and make your own and decorate it how you want! If you take heavy whipping cream and whip it up and add about 1-2 tablespoons of dry pudding mix you will have a stablized whipped cream frosting....and not so sugary.
There is an Amazon Fresh in my town. Most stuff is over priced (especially produce, meat, and dairy). But they have been putting a $15 off $30 purchase every week. So I use it on the stuff that isn't marked up as much. I get spices, chili paste, salad dressings, some freezer stuff. As long as it is about the same price as other stores I will get it at Amazon with the coupon. Then I take my neighbor's coupons they arent using and do multiple check outs so each total is $30 and I get half off multiple times
Im in California and live alone but i work at a grocery store so ive seen prices rise a dollar or two on just about everything but i dont buy much to begin with and i buy in bulk when i can because that saves me in the long run.
For ground beef I've had the best luck with 10# rolls at the store formerly known as Cash and Carry. They go on sale fairly regularly, so they're usually below $3/# for 80/20. Last summer I snagged it at $1.69/#! I'm so very grateful I can shop at WinCo, hit Safeway and FM for loss leaders, and the restaurant supply store - all within five miles of my house.
@@krosario3322 I'm not, though I grew up in WA. We do have Grocery Outlet nearby, but it's not quite as convenient. I've tried to hit it up recently when I'm already close, but I never find the awesome stuff like I used to where I grew up. I'll keep trying.
Back in the mid to late 1980s, my step mom asked me how I got my two kids ( under 5) to eat the " cheap foods" I told her that's what I bought. She said her kids ( my half siblings) wouldn't eat cereal unless it cost over $3.00 a box. Well, that's what SHE chose to buy. They ate the cheap stuff at my house, or went home to eat. Years later, I saw my sister shopping at Aldi, for her family.
Juanita’s tortilla chips are the best! I grew up in Tucson, AZ so it’s hard for me to find packaged tortilla chips that measure up to the homemade ones you can really just buy everywhere for pretty cheap. Juanita’s are definitely the best I’ve found. Love all of you videos.
I saw the Philadelphia brand cream cheese for 2.75 at Dollar General. Was shocked. I only buy the off brand for a buck or when the name brand is a loss leader for the week. We have our own hens, but the egg prices are probably what has shocked me the most lately. I remember the 5 dozen pack being 5 bucks and now it's over 10
Try Walmart last time I was there it was 1.12 for 8oz brick up from .80 cents. Sometimes I think that all this talk about rising prices gives grocers a good excuse to raise prices unnecessarily.
Fruit, veggies, breads, most dairy (markdowns) all go to local food pantries. Each pantry has a pickup day. Our local, tri-county End Hunger program coordinates with each grocery store and food pantry to ensure pickup and distribution to feed the hungry. They have been doing this for over a decade. If a random cart shows up with markdown it’s empty with 15-45 mins, if that.
I agree with mom, soda I need it! But not because I'll die but because others might lol Thank you for doing this video. I shop for multiple homes that I manage and because our company is non profit the budget is super tight I'm glad I've always been a couponer/prepper so I know how to look for a deal but boy it's getting tough for larger households. Have a great day!
Sounds like someone that drinks coffee would say, oh wait. I hate coffee--- so soda is my coffee so I use the same saying. People are safe when I have my soda! Lol (as long as I have one can a day)
Stores at least where I live are using the Coronavirus limits as an " excuse" to not give out rain checks. It seems like everything today is because of the pandemic. I am so tired of it! I know and understand that yes some limits are because of it, but come on last year beef and pig farmers here were having to give meat away because of the government not allowing them to sell it, how is that related to the pandemic? These farmers lost tons of money because of the government not the pandemic. The entire thing is just making the entire population angry in so many ways that I fear that we could end up in another Civil war.
We have 3 stores that are about the same distance, two different directions, that we shop at. We always get the store brand or least expensive. We got a 20 pound bag of rice for $1.00 on clearance at Walmart. We buy either Basmoti or par boiled rice. I don't like brown rice. We also use the K-Cups when on sale. We can use them for our coffee pot by opening the cup and dumping out the coffee into the coffer filter. We do have a Keurig that we got for $5.00 at a garage sale. We buy the large tube of hamburger and cut it into one pound portions then freeze them. Thank you for sharing this video.
I'm not sure it was that stocked. She couldn't find a variety of chips. The store filled the shelves with what was on hand, that was 2 varieties. I'm seeing the tactic in other stores. It didn't look like the product was that deep either. Either way, if the prices are that high, the product will sit. People are looking for better deals. There were a lot of tags missing on the shelf edges which meant whatever was supposed to be there, isn't there.
Christine, thanks for all of your tips and insight. I had to share with you my double-whammy Kroger manager markdown: a brand new, sealed and unused FoodSaver for $50 (reg $101 - prob a returned gift?). I've been watching the prices there so I can buy one on sale AND get fuel points but for 50 bucks and new, "WOO-HOO!" Hope you and the family are doing well!
Very good tips Christine! What surprises me though are the people that find shopping in bulk the way you do and storing it all to be too much inventory. Ever since I was a child living in a Northern Ontario Town, my mother always had a lot in the cupboard because to feed a family of six on minimum wage, we ate a lot of Boston boiled dinner, fried bologna with eggs, pasta and sauce, and often had breakfast for dinner. My mother was good at managing things and once she bought a freezer to put sale items up for later, I do believe the food prices dropped. My sister, myself, and my oldest nephew all suffer from the disease of having to buy meat on sale even though a few of us are households of one person. I eat low carb so I don't buy a lot of vegetables but when I do buy some I also look for them to be on sale! It is a bit of a game for me to keep my food budget down but I couldn't tell you how much I spend in a month because I over shop and then eat for a while and then start looking for specials again because it's just me! Thanks for all that you do!
Thanks for posting this! Definitely good ideas to save money. I’ve been spending more money at Aldi here and I shop at 2 other stores -A Super Target and our local grocery store. I do like making lists but I usually end up getting the same things each month. I make the list for the rare items so I don’t forget to get them. 😎👍
Christine, we always go for the "raincheck" on sale items that are currently sold out. This means we can come back next week when that 20lb bag of rice is back up to regular price and back in stock - and get it at that sale price :)
Interesting to see the bacon 'ends/pieces' packaging. I've never seen that option in any store ever, and I've lived in KS, CO, FL. Will def BOL tho! So perfect for cooking it to chop it up for salads/toppings, etc.
These grocery price videos are so interesting to me who live in Finland. I wish there were couponing, apps or other thing to get stuff cheaper here. An example, ground beef is about 3,99€/400 g = 4,42 dollars foralmost a pound. Things like that don't really ever go on sale. I noticed that a lot of our fruit and vegetable are cheaper here though! For your prices I get about 2,5 pound, since we go by kilos. I truly wish there were sales like you have but all we get are 30-40% off things that are about to expire. Love your videos!
Meat and dairy and cheaper than veg here because of government subsidies from the 40s that don’t make sense anymore… They were trying to help people gain weight and eat more after the war, but now it backfired 🤦🏻♀️
I noticed almost everything is cheaper in Germany except the eggs and meat, even if you buy organic. So eating a vegetarian diet is quite inexpensive here
Love the clips with Kim!! Thanks for all the tips, now is the time to shop smart!! Make sure you are stocking up on sales, and check your local stores for digital coupons, but only buy what you normally use

Totally agree that being flexible and reverse meal planning is the best thing to do to save money. I stock up on the low priced items to get us through the next month with shopping at 4-5 different stores monthly wherever I can get the pricing low enough. I also got the free frozen pizza at our local Safeway which was a fun treat. Love the apps and getting good discounts and free things. We did give up buying soda and buy a few 2 liter bottles for treats but we have stopped buying cans. We also save up our points to get gift cards for Walmart and other places to put towards getting low priced items and not spending money out of pocket. We have stayed under $100 per month and had a full meal plan of yummy meals. Totally able to make the most of things in the house and not spend the money!!
I work at a grocery store, I only shop at work when I need to get soda or Gatorade but my main shopping is at Aldi's. When I buy chicken meat or pork I buy the bigger pack and split in half and freeze it for next time, so the next time I go shopping I don't have to buy but also Aldi's is started to put a limit on their meats chicken and pork. Bread and milk usually buy more then one keep what I need in the fridge or pantry and freeze the others. Anytime I go shopping I'm always shopping and comparing prices because I know how pricey things are. Many things are out of stock and hard to find.
I have a hard time with frozen fruits. They become mushy when defrosted because of the water from the ice. Unless you're making smoothies or baking something with them, they're not great. I find it impossible to eat them like I would fresh fruit.

It is tough to do tons of comparison shopping at multiple stores, especially when you have to travel a long distance, though! Gas prices reduce savings by a LOT and it can take so much time that it isn't worth it. I definitely still try to do what I can, but usually limit myself to my town. I have my fingers crossed that we will eventually get a WinCo here, though. I would go all the time!
I came here to say the same thing. Gas was $5.20 when I gassed up to drive to LA for medical treatment, & it had gone up by 20 cents overnight. These days, every little drop of gas is precious. I can’t even imagine going on a road trip any time soon.
I’m so fortunate to live in the Dairy State. Our milk, butter, cheese, and egg prices are sooo much lower. You reminded me to look for a new bread outlet. Mine permanently closed at the start of Covid-19 😢 God bless 🙏🏼❤️
I just pickled and dehydrated a ton of eggs because the prices are getting out of hand and I found them across the state boarder way cheaper and stocked up.
I freaking LOVE the Two Good Yogurt! Maybe it tastes so good to me because I'm used to lower sugar alternatives as I rarely consume artifical sugar, but it's definitely on my grocery list often.
I love it too!!! I use it in smoothies with frozen berries and it is delicious. It has higher protein and lower carbs then any of the other Greek style yogurts.
I buy twin pack whole chicken at Sam's. I make tons of home made stock, chicken noodle soup, other soups. Save the wings and other parts for other kind of meals. Bread makes me bloated and I don't like soda. I don't buy junk food. When I eat well i don't crave as much. Bulk/bag your own section is cheaper too for rice, beans, etc. I have titanium pans that are easy to clean, lasts forever and no chemicals!
I buy frozen chicken all the time. typically it can be cheaper when not on sale. plus they are IQF so you can easily pull out one or two pieces and they thaw super fast in the sink.
I pay 38 cents for 7 ounce package of pasta in the Mexican section at Walmart. 2 packages cost 76 cents for 14 ounces is not quite a pound but it works for me. It use to be 24 cents a a package but now it cost more because of inflation. The ends and pieces is $29.99 for a 10 pound box at a store in my area. I wait for it to get $4.88 for a pound of my favorite brand at one of the grocery stores that I shop which is usually about every 2 months.
Agreed! I recently went to a local store to get bacon on sale and they were sold out (great $). Ended up with a 5 pound box of ends for $12.99. Ended up with 3 pounds of cooked bacon and almost a quart of rendered bacon fat which saved on buying oil. You do what you need to. Blessings.
You can make cream cheese with plain full fat yogurt. Just dump the yogurt in cheese clothe in a strainer that is on top of a bowl. Let the liquid drain into the bowl for 24 hours in your refrigerator. Take the cheese and place on a plate. Keep the liquid whey. It's great for tenderizing meat or in things for health benefits.
My son's friends used to stop me at the grocery store and asked me what they should buy because they had heard that I grocery shop of course I had fed all of them growing up. It was kind of fun to teach them in the middle of the store but I wanted a steak well don't get it this week or I wanted to grill out hamburgers well see if frozen or precious best you gave many of the same tips that I gave these kids growing up I hope they remember them and yes the coupons and the digitals are fantastic. I had a pretty well-rounded pantry and got so I could pretty much just shop the deals at the store and make a week or maybe two weeks worth of meals out of that. You do a very good job of explaining
On the soda thing. Walmart has 12 pack of 16oz Pepsi for $6.38 at my Walmart. The 6 packs also 16oz are $3.98. At Kroger they are $5.99 and on sale for $4.33 or 3 for $13. Which if you do the math they are charging 1 penny more for purchasing 3. Walmart 12 pack is the winner coming in at $0.53 a bottle. A 20oz bottle costs a couple of bucks in the check out lane. Plus a 2 liter goes flat too quick.
Why wouldn't the dairy from prices be less?
Oh man... our dairy farm sells their milk for 10/gallon 😔
Our local farms are so much more expensive than the stores. Great quality, but only for a treat.
@@brandicheek2167 Wow!! I shall not complain at $4 a gallon for raw milk
I managed to find someone local who has a jersey cow and was willing to sell me 4 litres per week. It’s cheaper than my store prices, but I have to drive 20 minutes to get it. Still worth it because I can’t digest the milk from the store.
The Kim (The Wads) cut ins had me DYING. Kim and Christine? Now that's a treat!
It cracked me up too!
Same here 🤣
Our Kim is a winner! Love her…
Yes!
I agree 🤣
When I was really on a tight budget, I first scanned the sale flyers and planned my meals (and list) around that. Back in 1973 my grocery budget was $25 a week for a family of three, and that included cleaning supplies! Two of us packed our lunches too.
That was about $184 in today’s money. I wonder how much your grocery items would be today to see if there was really such an increase in price. 🤔
In 81 when I got married it was $40 a week in groceries ugh
That's a very organized plan. I will try that. Thank you.
Yes, I like to buy whole chickens for this reason too. Chicken is so versatile; the leftovers can be turned into any manner of dishes.
I buy whole chickens too and then when we’re done eating the meat I make bone broth with the bones. Delicious!
@@bookmusingsus You can roast your whole chicken in the oven in a dutch oven with the lid on. Collect the juices and fats rendered during cooking and incorporate that into your broth also.
Me too! Whole chickens are awesome and you can make stock from the carcass
I use to do that but I haven't seen a whole chicken for .99 lb in years in my area. They are very expensive. At Costco you can buy a rotisserie chicken way cheaper than a raw whole chicken. Makes no sense to me.
I would love to see you on The Price is Right, I bet you'd crush it!

She'd always price things too low since she never pays regular price. Lol

I took my exact Walmart pickup order from 2 weeks ago to reorder. Price went from $68 to $129 in just two weeks!
Wow 😱😱
Ouch!
I am a skinny single man and spend $35 a week on groceries in Raleigh NC.
Omg? Wth?
And a lot of these packages are being shrunk...aka 'Shrinkflation'.
30 Hens! I have 9 and so badly wanted spring chicks! 🥰
Loving the Kim clips too!
Wow! So impressive! How much land do you use for your garden and hens?

It’s crazy in Alaska. Our food prices are higher than the lower 48 but it’s doubled on so many items! Budgeting and meal planning is how we get by each month. We usually shop at multiple stores but with gas prices so high I may only be going to one store.
Thanks for sharing!!
I can only imagine how much stuff is where you live and also in Hawaii
We are in the kenai. Last week I was in Anchorage and we are even higher! 🤪
You could go through sale flyers for different stores online to cut back on trips. Most stores have ways to go through inventory and look up prices online. Research before I go saves me trips to the stores.
Hang in there! Yeah I stocked up this past summer/fall but it's still going to be lots of oatmeal until wages catch up. If they ever catch up...
I let go if alcohol for dry January and for health problems. I gave up juice, hot cheetos, and soda for lent. We'll see how it goes lol

And kudos to your sister that is so awesome 👏
I gave up soda for lent this year (as well as ice cream), but the past few years I have been drinking more water than soda. I used to drink about four or five cans of Diet Coke a day. But these days I can just as easily have water or flavored seltzer.
I am drinking to much beer.Going to give it up to save money and I want to lose weight from 180 to 160.
I'd be all about beans for protein. My husband unfortunately is a southern meat and potatoes guy
Cut out milk altogether; it's one of the main causes for breast, ovarian, and prostate cancer - in addition to acne, osteoporosis, oral lichen planus, etc., etc.

LOVE that you’re sitting in the floor in the grocery store, talking to the shelf 😂
Love your videos!

Reverse meal planning is definitely the way to go! I like to check the ads of the stores for sales before I go.
Gluten free is so expensive!
Thanks Christine! Thank God I have a good pantry and freezer stock- up!
One of the best tips I got was to ask the person working by the eggs for a box of broken eggs the entire box is $4-$5 and my box had a total of 5 broken eggs that I threw away and it was missing 3-4 eggs. I got over 200 eggs in the end after broken eggs.

That’s super smart!! I’d be hitting those neighbors up every other week for their coupons too 😂

I saw the Philadelphia brand cream cheese for 2.75 at Dollar General. Was shocked. I only buy the off brand for a buck or when the name brand is a loss leader for the week. We have our own hens, but the egg prices are probably what has shocked me the most lately. I remember the 5 dozen pack being 5 bucks and now it's over 10
Yes our store brand goes on sale for $1.50/ block
Try Walmart last time I was there it was 1.12 for 8oz brick up from .80 cents. Sometimes I think that all this talk about rising prices gives grocers a good excuse to raise prices unnecessarily.
I'd love to see Philly cream cheese for that price! It's 3.99 here. It's one thing we are a brand snob for.

Agree with you about Juanita’s tortilla chips! The best! Also, if something on sale is sold out, ask for a raincheck.
None of the stores in my area are giving rain checks anymore due to Covid 😞
@@lisachatham8690 That is just terrible!
I can’t believe how well stocked this store is!! Here in Texas, this isn’t the case. We cannot find biscuits or crackers!! 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
In Arizona, crackers are HARD to find! Ugh!
My area of Texas was well stocked yesterday except for a couple of sale items. RGV.
I’m in Austin and the pasta goes MIA often lol what area are you in?
@@CantankerousDave we had a frozen fry shortage for a couple weeks as well! I was definitely disappointed because I love making cheese fries at home
My dad used to buy Kroger brand peanut butter and put it inmy Jif. I`m 54 years old and when i buy peanjt butter, i buy Jif.
Omg I'm loving the Kim clips! I love her videos so much and she's such a sweet heart
I love when Kim makes an appearance on your videos 😆
I loved that you used Kims clips!!! You two are my favorite UA-camrs. You keep things light and fun!
Even in low COLA areas we're feeling the pinch!
Yes! Plan meals by what you have and what's on sale!
Christine, we always go for the "raincheck" on sale items that are currently sold out. This means we can come back next week when that 20lb bag of rice is back up to regular price and back in stock - and get it at that sale price :)
None of my stores are doing rainchecks anymore because they can't guarantee they will get the items back in! Crazy!
Mine stopped giving rain checks March 2020 and haven't resumed.
Same..East texas..no rain checks...
No rain checks here either
In London, Ontario, Canada eggs are $3.09/dozen and cheap milk is $5.39/4 litres. A pound of butter is roughly $6.00.
Interesting to see the bacon 'ends/pieces' packaging. I've never seen that option in any store ever, and I've lived in KS, CO, FL. Will def BOL tho! So perfect for cooking it to chop it up for salads/toppings, etc.
Kroger has it
I definitely took pause when Kim popped up out of nowhere! I’m like whoa, what’s going on?! Cake?! 😂 love it!
Things are crazy expensive! I’ve been doing a lot more clearance shopping and shopping the sales and then hoping I can figure out meals with those ingredients. Wish I had an ALDI near by to help cut down the cost of things.
@@DC-pr2bq we had one when we lived in Texas and it was great! I’m not sure how it would be now though.
Believe it or not Aldi's prices are really rising too lately. I actually got cheaper staples at Target last week.
Even aldi is getting expensive
@@rebeccaa2433 bummer! Good to know though if we ever live near an ALDI again.
@@francinebowman990 so sad, but understandable. Everything is getting expensive regardless of where you go. Meal planning and shopping the sales are how we’re surviving.
Wow, you all are fortunate! Here in southern California the prices are outrageous! $5.69 for a gal. of milk last weak.
Yes video!!! Oh dear, speaking of milk that’s an amazing price! Can’t get milk for any less than 4.65 a gallon unless I find a clearance jug. 😢 northern Canada 🇨🇦
I was celebrating finding it under 5$ this week in Saskatchewan!
@@33snowgal I wait for the clearence items in sask as they go from 1.15 to 1.50 for 4 litres.
@@ashleybosvik3031 yes! On rare occasions I can find a jug for between 1.50-2.00 on clearance. Definitely pick up any I see at that price. 😊
Thank you for your input on peanut butter. It is 100% better than almond butter. 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Ugh I agree. Only berries at my store today were strawberries, 4$ for the little plastic thing, idk what it is? A pint? The standard plastic thing lol
@@MommaLousKitchen lol yup I think that's a pint.
I had a big smile when you put clips of "The Wads" mom Kimberly. I am from Canada and the prices here are going up up up. Great video!
I love Albertsons great app for sure! I love the reverse shopping I agree getting items you don’t need when they are on stock up is such a great way to shop. Thank you for sharing this. I’m always trying to share the great things with Albertsons and loyalty cards with stores I love. Got my family hooked on the app now! ☺️
Albertsons has been pricy since they bought that company. Not worth it.
@@jenniferromero571 what area are you in I know it seems expensive but once I learned how to shop for our large family I was able to save a lot. This past week in SoCal they had a digital coupon for 25¢ tuna cans that normally are $1.25. It was limit 4 but you can always ask for rain checks if they run out. 🙂
I'm in New Mexico. That is not too bad a price. I am glad they have good pricing where your at.
Y'all are lucky to even have an Albertsons. We don't have any of the cheap stores closer than 3-4 hours away. The closest we have to a cheap store is Aldi or Walmart and even they are crazy.
@@aurora0615 I agree the only way Walmart is cheap for me is if I coupon using rebate apps. Out of pocket is always so high, but after rebates get redeemed it usually ends up half of what I spent. Try watching Coupon Wins with Lins or Couponing with Kayla super helpful ladies. ☺️
our milk 8.99 for 4 l butter on sale $3.99 usually 6.99 bread 2 for $4.50 at Walmart $2.47 for strawberries at Walmart
a few examples
2lbs of cheese for $10.69 no thank you ma’am! 🤣 ps I want that donut 🍩
Hi Jen. 227grams of tillamook shredded cheese is slightly over 6 USD here in Singapore ....
Loving this type of video, it's very helpful! I hope you will consider future videos like this, too. Thank you so much, Christine!
With milk at that price, I would buy a bunch and can it
I just pickled and dehydrated a ton of eggs because the prices are getting out of hand and I found them across the state boarder way cheaper and stocked up.
Thank you This was very helpful. prices are really high in Illinois too..
I freaking LOVE the Two Good Yogurt! Maybe it tastes so good to me because I'm used to lower sugar alternatives as I rarely consume artifical sugar, but it's definitely on my grocery list often.
same! i love the 2good, 2 carbs, more protein. i only buy them when my local grocery has them on sale. christine hurt my heart on that one. lol.
I cant do that heavy Stevie taste...it is so gross to me...give me fage any day
I love it too!!!
