That tip on dealing with hardships is actually amazing! I am going through one of those difficult times in life at the moment and it has taken a huge toll on my studies. The idea of spending hours each day doing univeristy work is exhausting, but looking at it in the perspective of small time slots is super helpful!
That last bit of advice is so important! As medical students we are so stressed out and so it's so easy to lapse in taking care of our physical, mental & emotional health. In my final year being exposed to mortality, conflict and difficult situations on a daily basis I found it hard to cope sometimes but it's so crucial that we try our best to make it through it all. Hope everyone has a safe and Happy Holidays!
I watched videos, like these, a few years ago from you Andrea. I bought a white board and computer paper to make half sheets. In every science class that I've taken so far at University, I have gotten a 4.0. People have taken notice of my performance and asked for advice. I teach them what you taught us and I refer to the technique as the Tooley method lol. It really made learning the material so much easier.
Thank you for your information. You sure are fantastic Dr.Andrea Tooley. I humbly request you to make a video for IMGs. You have already did 2 videos about it, but I wish it was a little longer and more detailed. Thank you.
Thank you so much for everything! I am a junior in undergrad who didn't do that well my first 2 years, and I've been able to turn it around this semester. Thank you for the knowledge and inspiration to become motivated like I once was in high school!
Hey Andrea! you have inspired me so much over the years. I went from being unsure of my future to applying to TCD for medicine! Thank you forever and always, Amy xoxo
Hey Andrea! Can you do a new video of how you manage your time. I know you made one in the past but can you do an updated on esp how your morning routine goes. Also is there a practical reason why you use a composition notebook as opposed to a spiral one? Thank you! :)
Thanks Andrea for your informative videos. I have a question: Do you know anyone in the hospital who studied in Carribean Med schools? I know you're a super hero and many people watching your videos are straight A students, but I had bad semesters with B's and C's which dropped my gpa. I don't wanna put myself through the pain of getting another bachelor or master, but I want to know if I study abraod, will I be a respected doctor? Or it's a bad thing among doctors in USA? Will I carry my mistakes for the rest if my life? Thanks again.
Neda S hi Neda, I've been watching Andrea's videos since undergrad and I was not a straight A student. I got a C in orgo, didn't do a masters or post back and will be attending medical school next Fall. My advice will be to try to improve your grades with the rest of your time left in school. Even with a bad grade, med schools still want to see an upward trend in your GPA. Also in as much as GPA is important, there are other aspects of the med sch application. So keep your head up, keep pushing and don't count yourself out.
Hey Andrea😍😍😍 I was preparing for my Sendup Examination starting tomorrow . Just saw Your video, & got more energized !! 🙋🙋 you are the best ! I have a question hope U will answer. how to cope with test anxiety.? when u have prepared & learnt everything but due to anxiety u are unable to remember it, n get panic. how to deal with it ? thanku in advance!
I have a video about anxiety! Hope it helps :-) ua-cam.com/video/leck6UTW0V8/v-deo.html Just remember you are amazing, you prepared for the exam, and everything else is in the hands of the universe!
any tips on how to study math? I'm to the point in my degree that I have to take higher math courses before I can go on to higher chemistry classes and its nothing like studying for something like bio or anatomy where it's almost completely memorization.....doing practice problems just eat up so much time and I always feel like I'm going nowhere fast
Hi Andrea, you are such an inspiration to me, I am a nursing major and want to get my doctorate in nursing, can you do an interview with a Certified Registered nurse anesthetist, and Nurse midwife, I am interested in those two specialties. Thanks for the awesome videos! They help a lot!
Melanie Espinoza Thank you for this comment! it has liberated my mind knowing that there is someone else out there looking at multiple specialties, and who isn't afraid to verbalize their interest. Deep in my heart I want to do both or those specialties and possibly one more, and I feel like I can do anything. That the only thing that may hold me back is my own mindset! I am currently an RN considering med-school. Your comment has began to make me think of how staying in nursing, opposed to going into medicine can create more options for me. Seeing as though when in medical school you pick a specialty and you are stuck there, but in nursing it seems you can pick many specialties and actually practice all of them simultaneously!
Hi Andrea! Love your videos. Quick question, during med school how long did it take you to write down one summary sheet? Thanks! Lots of love from Pakistan.
Hi Andea :-) I love all your videos. You are really big inspiration for me :-) I would like to ask you if you have any oral exams at med school in US. I study med school in Czech Republic and almost all my exams are oral so it is a little bit harder for me to have straight As. Do you think that it could be problem when I will be applying for residency?
Hi Andrea! I really enjoy all of your study tips. Two weeks ago I did an optical exam. I felt very prepared going into it and I was heading into it with a 94% average in the class. However, halfway through the exam one question made me rethink my previous question I had answered. From that point on I feel like I had a full panic attack inside my head. I could not think straight and could not put two thoughts together and I no longer trusted my answers and felt that they were trying to trick me with the questions. It was awful!! Needless to say, I got 64% on that exam which is the worst mark I've had in my life. I have not had that experience in the past and I was definitely prepared for this exam. Any advice on how to handle this if it happens in the future?
I have a topic idea for you next. It's a bit sensitive, but I think really important. The dynamic between female professionals in a workforce, specifically female residents and nurses/NP/PA etc. I often notice that many female residents somehow feel the need to establish their "authority" because they feel it being threatened, by being a female in a male-dominant profession. Many don't know how to get that professional respect other than being rude to nurses and any professionals they delegate to. There's a lot of lateral aggression that happens in professional setting, especially teaching hospitals with a lot of rotating residents. This is a known fact, there's even been a study done on this subject in Norway. So I'm just curious from your stand point, and maybe your colleagues, is it a culture that's bred among residents to be somewhat condescending to other female professionals? Is it fear of losing or never gaining respect? Threat to their authority? Competition with male counterparts who seem to get respect and recognition with less effort? In my experience, you will get a lot more with honey than vinegar, and residents who grasped that, do a lot better than those who try to prove something. I know this is a controversial subject, but would be really interesting if you touched on it. I think this is something residents in general need to address, but especially female residents. You seem like a sweet person who no doubt figured out the right balance in communication, share it with future residents, it could be very helpful.
I'm still in high school and I'm really struggling to understand the concepts in chemistry. I am hoping to go to med school eventually but I am worried about being behind in that subject. How important is high school chemistry in relation to college education? Also, are there any good techniques to studying for chemistry? We are using the AP chemistry curriculum book.
How did u balance ur life and time manage well especially when ur in a relationship? At times i feel distracted and unmotivated when my boyfriend is next to me as im studying

can you do a video on preventive medicine and uncommon residency programs
Please interview an occupational therapist! Awesome video as always.
Hi Andrea! Love your videos.

I'd say about 1 hour per lecture hour in general :-)

First! Does this mean I'll be first in my class for the exam today? haha
Definitely!! Good luck!!
