I started driving trucks legally when I was 18 (1979) and drove for 40 years. I grew up around trucks. All of my relatives had their own trucks. My grandfather started teaching me to drive his log truck when I was 9 years old. I got to drive at the mills and up in the woods... I loved it until things started changing, and the regulations became more and more ridiculous. I do still miss driving and being around them though.
So nice to see the Dynamic Duo back on the road. You mentioned the sandwiches you made and your Dr P drinks and my husband made a face. I told him “Your sandwiches, your drinks, your truck - your choice.” 😁 Be safe, my peeps. Take care of each other. 💕🛣️🚛
It's good to see Opie is back! He's a sweetie!!! He was in a little bit of a funk. (Dad, a cheeseburger would help my funky mood!!!) Kurt, make sure you're not given that dog inferior burgers! You and Opie have a safe trip and keep it between the lines!!😄😄
Kurt, your comment to Opie about being in the field with a horse reminded me of a motorhome trip we took and we had our 120 lb rottweiler with us. We had stopped at the KOA next to the Devil's Tower and took him out for a walk. In the pasture next to the KOA was a huge Bramha bull. That rottweiler took one look at that bull and dragged me back to the motorhome. 🤣
When I was a kid my Step Dad was an owner operator. We did all the maintenance on the weekend. As a kid I used to get all greasy underneath greasing all the fittings. Changing tires, using either to get the seal was the funnest part, I would always spray to much to get a little explosion. My step dad was always doing something every weekend. all day long.
I'm from Mattoon, IL., a little south of Champaign. They're putting in new off/on ramps for the 74 & 57 interchange. I think this is year number 5 for the project. They are very slow at getting it done, for sure! I enjoy your videos!
That is pretty cheap for the 🛞, but not cheap for the time. Glad to see Opie back trucking, sorry about the tummy aches… hope all in the family are doing well. My husband like, “ wish he would put the time of when he goes through the cities and cross bridges, ect”. I said “I don’t think he would remember what time it was, when he is editing “. lol 😂
Deep in Northern Vermont. Flat tire, oh great, gas station right ahead. Limp her in, 2 guys come flyin out of the garage wearing service uniforms with hats like you used to see on the old Texaco commercial. Jack her up and wizz bang Indy pit stop level. “ That I’ll be $18.00 sir. Give em $25. Driving away, look in the rear view, their standing there wavin goodbye. Twilight Zone theme song is playin in my head.
Still new here Kurt but your videos are the best to me out of other O/Os I've seen. Welcome back German glad to see ya Budd. I can relate to the tire change I had to wait overnight once!!!
The Schmidt family is back! You, Opie and First Class! I'm glad you were able to get the tire fixed. I've had a few flats in my time and it's a real pain! Enjoyed seeing your wife and got a kick out if ger sewing up your shorts.
I drove through Indiana on I-70 on Tuesday and I thought I was going to lose a filling!!! What in the heck has happened to their roads? The Governor of Indiana should be ashamed of I-70. I have never seen it as bad as it is right now!!!!
Currently fixing my truck too, Kurt and family. Can't wait to get on the road again with you guys and many other truckers. For a young trucker to a veteran, 10/4.
I'm 46 now, but when I was 20 or 21 I was trucking in south America, I had to change tires my self because it wasn't road service or nothing, we have the old time rim and tire ,with the looking ring !! I don't miss that part about trucking...
HELLO KURT GREAT TO SEE OPIE BACK 🐾🐾❤️🐾🐾COOL VIDEO NICE RIDE ! HOLY WOW ON THE TIRE & BOLT WOW !! BEAUTIFUL DAY TOO BE BLESSED & STAY SAFE !! 🇺🇸🚂🇺🇸🚂🇺🇸🚂🐾🐾❤️🐾🐾
Hey… went thru my home town of Champaign. Illinois…. And the small town You were in… Og den Illinois…. Stay safe you guys …. Great to see the “furry little fart box”… and no the construction in Champaign will not be completed until around 2025???? It’s just line Chicago…. Never ending. Construction
@TruckingWithSchmidt Yes sir! Changing a tire or patching a tire is a job of itself. Done it quite a bit when I worked for my neighbor at their heavy duty tow business. But once you get a nice routine down. It’s a cake 🎂 walk. It’s not as hard as you think 🤔 it is Kurt. Especially if it’s on the outside compared to the inside tire on a dual setup. Good to see you & Opie together once again. Stay safe.
Every time you take Highway 20 it brings up memories. The old highway 20 was rough in the winter time. Use to stop at Kwik Star in Parkersburg. Week before tornado hit I was parked there. Safe travels. I drove for Crystal Distribution at the end of my career. Hauled light Hormel loads back and forth to Dallas/Ft. Worth.
I get my tires patched at speedco love's they treat me good and I get my service done there as well but last night they did a poor job I had a major oill leak as I was leaving the shop they called me and so I turned around and they took off one of the rubbers. then my after treatment went up emissions unit dealer changed me eight thousand to fix that as well I had the extended warranty doesn't pay for shit you stay safe out on the big road my friend
For me I am like you. If I need a tire fixed it’s the tire shops job. Not worth 45 dollar repair to man handle those things. I do need to get a plug kit for the truck just in case. I have ran out. Good to see Mr Opie back and of course Mr Schmidt. Love the content.
Is Opie Elderly? The very nice and thoughtful ladder you have for him probably answers that question. Opie does not look happy at all. A little tail waggs with the fart bomb burger though😂
It took 8 hours to get a tire fixed once, at I80. I missed my delivery window and had to sit on the road for two days in Chicago. Speedco was 10 hours for tires. There’s a shortage of workers, which makes us wait. Pre-Covid days the wait times were under 4 hours for the most part, I long for those days to come back.
From about a hour south of Champaign IL it's been bad up there for longer than that like Effingham IL worked on trucks, done tires for a while out on the road and fixed trailers out on the road also me and my bullmasta is watching your video know and I 57 South there's a lot of construction down that way also 2 weeks ago went to siksten Mo it was mostly one lane crap LoL be safe out there 👍🏻😎‼️
The last time I pulled my little bitty trailer to Minnesota, on the way back I picked up a brand-new shiny cage bolt in the trailer tire. (Thanks truckers but you know they shouldn't be there) It happened on I24 right at the first exit going east bound. Of course, it was Saturday afternoon and I had to go all the way back to Marion, spent about six hours just (luckily) finding a tire shop and I ended up buying an entire wheel and tire. It pretty much took care of the entire day and a few hundred bucks. Cage bolts are pretty darn large and I must have hit it just right. Just my luck! Glad to see the dynamic duo is back together again.
With today's tubeless tires. Doing them on the road without a service truck full of tools is not a good idea. Just some of the things you're going to need. A bead blaster, two tire bars, a bead breaking hammer, a tire scuff, plug patches, glue, a patch roller, a good jack and stand. And you can't forget the big gun and socket. 33 millimeter fits better than an inch and five sixteenth. My last company I worked for before retirement had a 24/7 service contract with a tire company. But then again we would burn through about 200 tires a year. Our casings were branded and capped only once for drive tires. Any casing with a patch would be sold. We had very few problems with caps.Steer and trailers always got new. Our TTs would pass over the scales at 103,000lbs. Our wheel loaders had at least 20 spare tires waiting in the pits and quarries. Those were at least $6,000 each seven years ago. I'd hate to see how much they are now.
Kurt, If I was to have a tire problem, the tire store where I bought my tires would handle it & the same with my new Honda I jus bought in May they would also fix it too. But I'm also 57 & I've never had a flat tire on the side of the road, had a small nail or screw in my tires a couple times before causing a very slow leak but usually just keep adding air about once a week till it was time for new set of tires. I have a 12 volt air compressor in both my car & truck for monthly tire pressure checks or etc. Had a slow leak in my front tire on my Cub Cadet riding mower for years but it was leaking around the bead & finally had the tire shop put a tube in it, that would have been my only chance to plug a tire if it have had a nail or etc. in it. Daddy also plugged tires with a plug kit, very rarely ever took it to a tire shop unless it was a bad puncture.
Here in IL the company I work for we use Cassidy Tire and Service, they come out to our shop to work on our Semi-trailer truck. They do have locations and I have seen them on side of expressways fixing Semi-trailer truck tires.
We are basically local regional if we have a Ager blowout, we try to pull into a tire shop. If not, we have to call road service but if it is just a slow leak from a boat or a nail and we see it we keep filling it until we get home and we have all the tools to jack it up. Take the tire off, it is a pain in the butt, but it saves us quite a lot of money
I’ve been truckin for 12 years now. Been all over this country multiple times. And I can say without a shadow of a doubt, the stretch of I-70 between Indianapolis and Dayton Ohio is the most atrocious piece of highway! And it’s been like that since I started trucking.
Same with you on getting it done quickly and correct! Worked at Goodyear in Knoxville, Iowa 100 years ago. Truck and tractor tires all outside work. Winter...Summer!
Back in '96, I drove a Freightliner cabover, and I loved it. Had it a year before the company made me move into a new 379. I'd rather have had the cabover.
I live across 70 from where you stopped at after dropping that loaded one off buddy, and Indiana isnt for the faint of heart on the roads here it sure does make me miss the roads in KS :) (JEFF)
Holy crap Schmidter, you worked up a sweat son lol. It was so hot here at Lighthouse Cove Ontario, the fish don't want to bite. Stay safe out there my friend.
Homer, I have watched your videos since you first broke 1000 of us viewers. You are like family. I also watch Amsoil Adam. I have been watching his channel about the same time. I met him this past spring in Myrtle Beach at the bike rally. Had him change the oil in my Trike. Never know, I might get the chance to meet you one day. Keep on trucking and making videos. I will surely watch them. Jerry Irmo South Carolina USA Go Trump
When I was younger I didn't have any patience and I had a very short fuse that got me in a lot of trouble. It took a lot of work on my part but I got a lot better about things My wife said I actually went to far the other direction LOL... You are right about patience and trucking. People that don't drive don't understand it's part of the game and there is nothing you can do about it. The worst part about some of the long delays is that you don't get paid for them. Case in point, your sitting for 5 freakin hours to get a tire repaired... That is totally absurd. There's no excuse for that long of a wait, even if they are busy. Even if they are putting 8 new drive tires on a truck, they should have had you pull up, jerked the tire off and fixed it, and got you going. The guy getting new tires is going to be there awhile anyway. Why hold everyone up ? As far as the tire tools I carried in the truck, I didn't. Never did, and honestly in 40 years of driving, I think I could count the number of flats that I had on the road on both hands. Guess I was just lucky because it seems like some people are always fighting tire problems. Almost forgot, I hope those weren't your load locks leaning up against the light pole at the end of the video.
I fix all my tires myself by hand up to semi, then i use my excavator with log clam for my tractors, payloaders and 2000 pound earth scraper tires nothing goes out to a tire shop except getting glue, patches and tires fix and install myself, done it for 40yrs
after plugging the tire i usually put a lighter of some sort to the plug a heat it up real good something i use to see my Grand Dad do and it always holds for the rest of the tire and never leaaks
Please have a safe driving to your destination which is you have told us in Indiana states. So take care and 600 miles it is a lot of driving so be careful.
Hello there mr Kurt. Did you forget to put a like to that blue cabover? Was just curious. I love cabover trucks. Hope you and the family are doing great.👍✌️🙏🙏
I wonder if you have a bottle of Tums in your truck for you and Opie? Dogs can have a couple of Tums for an upset tummy, just like people can. It won't help the dreaded doggo green fog of doom, but it is safe and will help in a pinch make him feel a little better until that subpar burger travels through!
Hey Kurt I don't live in Champaign but I live south of there in tuscola and I'm up there once a week and I have know idea when all the construction is going to be done
I am happy because I am retired from truck driving and all problems.Have a nice day!
I started driving trucks legally when I was 18 (1979) and drove for 40 years.
I grew up around trucks. All of my relatives had their own trucks.

Crap on the road is just getting worse every day. I say a prayer every day that you're safe out there. God bless.
It's definitely intresting Heather

I get off the road from a seven day stretch… here I am on the couch watching you 👊
Welcome back OPIE. I missed you taking care of your dork Dad.😂

Totally impressed to see Sarah with that needle and thread! She looks a real natural doing it.
Kurt, your comment to Opie about being in the field with a horse reminded me of a motorhome trip we took and we had our 120 lb rottweiler with us. @18:52 that’s my buddy in the orange 579 photo bombing 😂 🤙🏼
I enjoy your videos as I got sick and ended up with COPD and now watch life go by thanks for what you do. Be safe

And you probably picked up parts and supplies during the week after getting phone calls. I can related!
I'm from Mattoon, IL., a little south of Champaign. They're putting in new off/on ramps for the 74 & 57 interchange. I think this is year number 5 for the project. They are very slow at getting it done, for sure! I enjoy your videos!

Opie must wonder what is going on, leave me at home for weeks, then take me out and try to poison me. Great vlogs Kurt stay safe John
@TruckingWithSchmidt Yes sir! Changing a tire or patching a tire is a job of itself. Done it quite a bit when I worked for my neighbor at their heavy duty tow business. Your a professional driver for sure
Good Tuesday evening Kurt. It was 97 degrees with a heat. Index of 112 degrees. Saw it😮 was in 80's in Des Moines.
North Carolina has never ending construction, especially from Winston-Salem to Charlotte. Seems like a never-ending cycle.
And Greensboro last I saw
@matthewflair1919 it's all over, but 85 is always nonstop.
I think the whole state is under construction 🚧🚧🚧
Hope Opie is happy now that he is home.
For me I am like you. If I need a tire fixed it’s the tire shops job. Not worth 45 dollar repair to man handle those things. I do need to get a plug kit for the truck just in case. I have ran out. Good to see Mr Opie back and of course Mr Schmidt. Love the content.
i washed trucks for heaven hill distilleries back in the 90’s i learned how to change tires we had 2 rods and air tank to change tires🙋♂️😎
Is Opie Elderly? The very nice and thoughtful ladder you have for him probably answers that question. Opie does not look happy at all. A little tail waggs with the fart bomb burger though😂
He's 12
It took 8 hours to get a tire fixed once, at I80. I missed my delivery window and had to sit on the road for two days in Chicago. Speedco was 10 hours for tires. I was stationed at Champaign Illinois. Coldest place ive ever seen in the winter.. God bless.. Be safe
Best time to roll is at night Kurt. Less traffic/headaches. Hope to get time to talk with you soon. Making some life decisions lately.
From about a hour south of Champaign IL it's been bad up there for longer than that like Effingham IL worked on trucks, done tires for a while out on the road and fixed trailers out on the road also me and my bullmasta is watching your video know and I 57 South there's a lot of construction down that way also 2 weeks ago went to siksten Mo it was mostly one lane crap LoL be safe out there 👍🏻😎‼️
Great video, next time you're in the Quad Cities area, try Town and Country Tire in Durant, it's just west of the truck stop.
Looks like I just checked radar your area is under tornado warning Kurt..I'm sure you know I'm a storm chaser now so doing my duty be safe!!!
Ya. They are talking pretty nasty stuff.
Here in IL the company I work for we use Cassidy Tire and Service, they come out to our shop to work on our
Semi-trailer truck. They do have locations and I have seen them on side of expressways fixing
Semi-trailer truck tires.

Kurt you can stay at that small place in Ogden,Illinois the restaurant is amazing you should try it.
I'm usually there pretty late
I work at a tire and I have never taken fhat long to fix a tire, get them in and get them out as quickly and make sure everything is done correctly

It won't help the dreaded doggo green fog of doom, but it is safe and will help in a pinch make him feel a little better until that subpar burger travels through!
Hi Opie & Jax
Hey Kurt I don't live in Champaign but I live south of there in tuscola and I'm up there once a week and I have know idea when all the construction is going to be done
Loves is the best for tire repair. Call outs take priority over in shop repair but more expensive.
Love to Opie! 🐕🦺
I know on our highway I hardly have any nuts and bolts on my truck left😂
Lol Brett
Schmidt could return one to you.... It may be yours
@@BS-Outdoors1320 haha it very well could be
Opine has his personal fan

Have you got a contest going with Wild Wild West for the longest beard 😂,good to see the star of the show back in the truck 👍
Yup Kurt don't you know it !!! Wait Wait Wait- patiently
The I-74 construction in Champaign is scheduled to be completed early 2025, the last I heard.
