  • "Final" walkthrough because the bottom portion is not quite done yet. I only have a few more things to do for completion but I won't be able to get to this project for a while. Thanks for watching!

Very nicely done for your first big project. I used to hand draw my projects when I first started out. Everything came out fine but it was very time-consuming. About 3 years ago, I started building large built-ins for my new house and decided to bite the bullet and learn Sketchup before getting started building. I spent hours watching UA-cam videos on using Sketchup for designing cabinets. I learned the most from Jay Bates who has some good tutorials on how he did it. Now, I can knock out a design in very little time and it's so easy to make minor adjustments and modifications. I've never used Fusion 360 so I can't comment on how easy or difficult it is to learn and use. For me, learning Sketchup was well worth the time investment. The free version does everything I need to do. Again, nicely done.

Hey man, I came across your videos looking for pergola ideas. When I saw you prefab the parts I was interested . Then I saw you dipping the skilsaw to hog out channels and using templates and I was thinking," cool this guy thinks like me "...he must be a finish carpenter"...so I watched your desk build ..I'm a union finish guy in Orange County CA...90% of my 20 years in has been installation..I took the past couple years off for some personal family stuff so I've been building projects out of my garage. Installing high end millwork and a shitload of custom cabinets has given me a nice start as to how to engineer and build jobs similar to your office build. I've made some mistakes along the way most definitely but you learn to avoid them on the next one , so now things have been rolling pretty smooth. The part about you not leaving enough space on your inside corners is very common ,so next time give it a filler piece, I make mine around 2".. but I agree that watching a pile of wood turn into something awesome is very rewarding and especially when the customer loves it.. anyways, I'm glad I came across your vids and I'm gonna use some of your ideas for a pergola I gotta do, because you do your "rough" construction how I do and make it a "finish" type project.. take care bro
