Nice interview, Steve. I enjoyed it. Glad to hear you're feeling better.
Discovering how diverse the Mormon tradition is was one of the first major steps in my deconstruction. I do appreciate your exploration of the various sects and branches of Mormonism. I also appreciate your points about using Mormonism as mirror against broader Christianity. I've contended with others that there really isn't a consistent, meaningful criterion that eliminates Mormonism as a Christian sect that would not eliminate others from Christianity that most Christians want included in that category. I've also noticed that just about every polemic thay Christian apologists lob against Mormonism ends up being just as big (if not bigger) a problem for their particular brand of Christianity.
Solid discussion!
Great conversation! I’m a Confessional Lutheran and in some respects the Book of Concord almost functions as a kind of “scripture” amongst Lutherans.
Jim, Jimmy, James, Jimbo, son you guys need to do a live podcast of inside out. Thanks for riding the straight and narrow path, I know sometimes it probably feels like a razors edge between light and dark, but that's as it should be.
Degrees of glory was lectured upon in Dartmouth college years before Joseph Smith Jr., by Professor John Smith. He also lectured about the Melchizedek Priesthood, pre-existance, Oath and covenants as well. I can see how Joseph Smith Jr. could have gotten those idea very easily.
Do you have a source you can share? I did a little digging after reading your comment but only saw posts on Reddit tying both men together.
I learned Joseph Smith was 3 years old when John Smith died and that John Smith's writing at Dartmouth was not readily available to the public.
I'm trying to figure out how this theory that Joseph Smith was influenced by a man he never met and writings he most likely never read.

barbigerous = bearded...you are welcome😀😆😇🥰
Oh great. You should have called this one , 'Evangelical talks with ex-mormon and mormon in name only.' 😅😅😅
Why "mormon in name only"? Can you elaborate?
I'd argue Jim is more "Mormon" than a lot of members.
@@Cultural_HallHow so?
@@cinnamondan4984 Mormons are supposed to be Christlike, no? Jim is much more Christlike than, say, the deznat types who harass him and others on Twitter. So, he's more "mormon" than a lot of Mormons.
Lol, Steven Pynakker is more "Mormon" than many members with respect to knowledge of LDS history and doctrine. 😉
