Banff's Morant's Curve is unbelievable. On this episode, I get a TASTY shot in Banff National Park, near Lake Louise, Alberta. A perfect day in the snow photographing CP Rail freight train in this iconic location. The end results blew my mind.

I was there 2 days ago but we arrived a little bit late afternoon and the train passed by the other way around and it's dark so i have to jacked up my ISO to 2000 just to get a clear shot. I'm not satisfied with the outcome. I'll be back next year and make sure that I have enough time to get the shot that I wanted. Keep on shooting. I love your channel.

Hey thanks buddy! I appreciate it. It can be so frustrating when things go south while out shooting . Trust me I've been there a ton of times!!!! LOL
      Thanks again for watching.

Thank you so much for watching! There’s a little parking lot right there, not a lot of cars, but there’s always room in the parking lot.
Just be patient lol l. It can get frustrating sitting there waiting for the right train!

Absolutely loved your hero shot of the train Cory. I really hope I can get something similar when I visit in a few weeks time.

    wonderful pictures and great video.
I'll be visiting Banff in late September.
are you aware if there is anywhere we could find out the train schedule? Or just sit and wait?
    greetings from Brazil

Unfortunately no, I haven’t found anything schedule related anywhere. You just have to wait it out. I’ve been there 5 mins and boom! A train comes…. Other times ugh…. That wait can be excruciating, but it’s worth the wait. When an East bound train from BC comes through that S curve.
      Thanks for watching !

Beautiful footage! Love the contrast of the white snow and the train colours. I watched the trains there late September, 3 years ago, was amazing! Thanks for sharing :)

I've always wanted to visit this spot ever since seeing photos of it in Trains Magazine as a kid. I'm a landscape photographer who also photographs railroads as well, and being able to combine the two is the ultimate goal, and this is one of those places that brings out a lot of non railroad photographers because of how gorgeous the scene is!

      Hi Robyn, thanks for watching!
It's a spot called Morant's Curve along the Bow Valley Parkway. It's closer to Lake Louise then Banff but very easy to get to. If you google it it pops up on maps.
There's a small parking lot (5 -6 spots) right there, just on the other side of the road from the look out where I filmed.
Be patient when you get there. Trains can be every 30 minute to every hour just depends. Also, watch the tracks for wildlife when there isn't a train. They use it a "road" to get through the heavy snow. I had a coyote this day but I watched wolves do it before.
Any other question feel free to drop my a line here or facebook.
      Good Luck.
      Cheers!

@@photohuch thank you so much for your response! Even if the only thing I see is the view, i think it's worth it! I'll definitely look out for wildlife though!
Thanks for all your tips! :)

@@photohuch hello again! Forgot to update you about how it went! It was a beautiful sunny lunch time when we got there, but a lady said she had been waiting for 2 hours already for a train! Didnt know why one hadn't come yet. We thought we might as well wait so we had fun taking pictures of some birds on the tracks, and eventually after about 40 minutes, the lady got tired of waiting and left. About 10 minutes later, just as a small bus of sightseers showed up, we heard the train horn!! We were so excited and so were the 10 people who had got extremely lucky showing up just then haha. We got some great photos, and the wait made the whole thing an even more memorable experience. Thanks so much for your tips! It was one of our favourite stops in our trip. All the best! :)

What time were you there? and how long did you have to wait between the two trains?

    • @photohuch
      @photohuch  8 місяців тому

Hey Ronnie, thanks for watching !
I got there about 11am (I think). That day the wait between was about 25-30mins.
The wait between trains can be fairly short (30min) or an hr or more just depends on the luck of the draw. Unfortunately, there is no set train schedule to look up.
      I wish there was.

would a shot down by river bank, give you a better composition. I'm thinking curve in river with curvature of train coming around the curve straight at you would make a killer shot. No pun intended. LOL

    • @photohuch

      Absolutely would be!
Getting down there in the winter, not so fun. LoL mid thigh to waist deep snow in certain spots due to the snow plow and that steep incline to get back up isn’t fun without my snow shoes that were sitting at my back door because I forgot them…. Doh.
      Thanks for watching buddy
