I wanted to get into DLG 4 years ago but 2 shoulder surgeries have postponed my ability to launch. I am now ready to purchase my first Dlg. I am an experienced rc glider pilot and want a plane that will preform on the slope as well as thermal on dead calm days. The choices are overwhelming every online shop without exception claims to have the best model ever made 😢 . I am 60 years old and have no desire to compete however I can afford a high quality model and do not want a plane that I will regret purchasing in a year because my skills have improved. There are no local hobby shops or glider clubs near me so any suggestions would be appreciated. You clearly know what you are doing and I'm glad I found this post.
Hi pierre, you are clear in the theory that you need to look horizontally upwind before you release the glider. In the slow motion however you clearly look upwards. Only afterwards in the second turn (after the release) you look down. I am a little confused if I understood the theory right. Other than that your videos help a lot!
Hi , I juste relooked to my video . and my head is straight regarding my body and if you look I am trying do give angle to my glider for use less preset . The technique I explained in the video is for avoid tipstrike , and I know I am for to tipstrike so I launch not perfectly flat .
Hi Pierre, I like your videos. Maybe you could do a kind of tutorial how to CATCH the glider. Depends on the flying field (bad surface with rocks for example) and if you are in competition it makes sense to catch and not to land it on the grass.
Thanks for your videos. It's difficult to see the relationship of where the glider is in relation to your body during the launch. This is because the camera is at ground level. It would be helpful if you had a friend operate a drone with a camera and film the launch from above and just behind. The drone would only need to be 5 or 6 meters off the ground.
John Gallagher hi , thanks for your comment ! it s filmed from 1.6 m high it the best high for you can see the angle of the glider . no friend with the drone there , in the vibe 2 video I was piloting the drone when my friend fly the dlg .
I am talking about filming how the glider lags behind the body (is coiled) and then how the body is uncoiled just before release. This would also show the circle made by the glider in relation to the footwork. This could only be seen from above.
Hello Pierre, thank you very much for the tip .. I have trained this technique a lot .... I believe that I will improve my releases .... Because these gliders are very expensive to bring them to Brazil ..... I am building my DLG. The final weight of it is 315 grams, it was the lightest I have ever built. I aim to achieve the 65 meters. I know I need to improve my construction, but with these tips, I'm already very satisfied with the result ... I'm reaching the 40 meters at launch. My glider is made of carbon fiber and fiberglass. I asked for some construction tips for Norbert Wigbels. Take a look at his construction videos I do the same process to build mine. I use more fiberglass because it is cheaper. The carbon fiber I use more to strengthen the structure. Thank you for your tips. They are of great value, because I love DLG. Hug.
Hello , for light build D-Box wings are good , if the fuselage and tails are light enough then an wing arround 150 g will be ok and your glider will weight 280 max . I am really happy if my videos could help , Cheers ! Pierre
It's certainly better than me; I'm getting 40-45 m with an old Phil Barns custom build (probably 2009-2010 vintage). Had one outlier recently to 49 m. I launched a Helios 2 about a year ago and was able to throw it markedly higher, so likely 50 m is getting pretty close to the limit for a model that has no carbon other than the spars and aileron doublers.
I must have tention spring in ailerons (in Spin'acz) becouse it flattering ;) I launch helios 2x too, but in no wind and altitute is about 55m. I have polish models Virgos and Spin'acz DLG. When I fly for fun I don't launch high becouse I like to find thermals on low altitute. By the way you make cool videos, I start subscribe you when I see your chanel in flitetest episode.
Interesting. I'm crazy about performance so always looking for more launch altitude anywhere I can get it. Catching lift down low is really gratifying though. That's not fun having to spring your ailerons. What servos are you using? And thanks for the compliments on my channel; I really appreciate it!
Hi , That's an good altitude ! If you hit the 50 m you got a good launch , so it's even better if you do it with an soft wing model . for your problem of flutter may be the spring could twist the ailerons so be carefull with it ;)
Do not you have a DlG right there used for you to sell or to draw for us subscribers to your channel? I would like to buy a used one to take out molds or remodel. Thanks.
Hi , all nexts gliders will come in F3K Review will be for sales ! because I make a deal with the builder . Comming soon a Chicco and a Bravo , they will be brand new !! I all ready sell all my "olds" gliders from the past season for get my WC gliders , sorry .

I like your speed throws! I shall try using this in stead of traditional power throw to mabe get better launch hight!
Patrik Johansson hi , the best is both at the same time :)

SG Flights Gies hello , thanks for the coment !
good idea ! I will do it :)
Maybe with an introduction why it is important to do it. And maybe "Do's and Don'ts"
Just an idea

ho , Ok I understand better what do you mean , Why not , I will keep it in mind
Thanks, very informative and aesthetic!
Pro tip : watch series at kaldrostream. Been using them for watching a lot of movies these days.
@Nikolai Anakin yea, have been watching on kaldroStream for since november myself =)
How do you keep your arm from hurting, mine hurts so bad after a few launches ?
It could be louder to make it easier to listen.
Other than that ist verry helpful. thank you
thanks for your comment ! Ok thanks to notice it !

I have 17 years old and launch about 50m, max at 56m and I don't use full carbon wing. Is it good altitute?

for ailerons in this model I use TGY-D56MG.
