Eric got better and better with age. He was underrated in his beginning roles. He's always been gorgeous and sexy too. Way better an actor than his sister. Glad he's a HUGE animal lover and Vegan too. Hope he lives over age 100!!
Obviously the “They took my thumb Charlie” scene is iconic, but this is Eric’s best scene in the film. He sells fear and terror like nobody else. I genuinely feel awful for him here, after he spent the past hour being super abrasive (in character, not as an actor.) It’s a masterclass in acting.
Eric Roberts was one talented & gifted motherfucker indeed! Why he never went further & higher with his career boggles the mind. Eric Roberts was the second coming of Brando, as the kid could act. Superbly!
I know that he screamed "UNCLE PETE" when they started cutting his thumb off but when I first saw this movie I was a kid and I thought he screamed TACO PEE!!!! I couldn't figure out why anyone would say something like that.
If not for Uncle Pete Pauley would have been sleeping with the fishes. Uncle Pete was his saving grace. Pauley losing his thumb was small potatoes compared to the alternative (either life on the run or instant, brutal death!). And granted Bed Bug Eddie Grant was quite a few levels below the West Side Irish gang (the Westies!), the DeMeo Crew & the 116th Street outfit in terms of sheer viciousness & ruthlessness yet as a leading Capo in the Genovese Family of that era he was still a man to be greatly feared, not one to be taken lightly. Just the opposite. Pauley got off somewhat easy IMHO, though that doesn't mean that I wouldn't feel for him in real life. Thank God for Uncle Pete!
Tony Musante! He just like Harry Guardino! He could out gangster Deniro Pacino,Caan any time! Why didn't he get at least a small part in the Godfather!Great.
Uh no he cant lmao the fuck is wrong with u. He can out gangster de niro or pacino pfff u smoking crack maybe caan but even that's a lil bit of a stretch de niro and pacino could play a better italian gangsta then anyone on there worst day
Nice call, watched this in the 80's and never realized until revisiting recently that Frank Vincent was doing thumb jobs back then. Eric Roberts tremendous acting in this film.
Roberts is over-the-top. IMO he over acted thru what I have seen of this film. He needed an actor's director to calm him down, relax him and pull him in. He was 'showing' constantly thruout, a big no-no in film.
I always felt Eric Robert's really overreacted this part. All the acting in this movie honestly was a bit dramatic in that way. It felt like they were paying homage to that 1950s theater style but it was made in the 80s so it just feels out of place.
Eric was supposed to be high strung and a little bit "slow", so in that aspect, I think he nailed it. He didn't fully understand what he was involved in until it was too late. And Mickey Rourke I thought was freakin brilliant in this movie.
I only watched this film because I had always heard how great it was. After watching it I thought Roberts acting was as cringe God awful as it gets and It's as forgettable a film as I have ever watched
Eric Roberts hugely underrated..... 1000 times more talent than his sister in my humble opinion.
Amen!! Julia is so average!! Eric got the talent: ‘it’s the genes, Charlie.’_________

And she borrowed his mannerisms. The Neurotic hand movements.
He is an enormous talent, amen!!
That’s not hard , she has no talent .

Eric Roberts nailed this role superbly & perfectly, thus becoming the character that he was depicting💯💯👍👍
Phil Leotardo Strikes again, great acting by Eric Roberts in this film.
Phily did this piece of work right before he did 20 #ucking years.
I thought that was the Sha of Iran.
eric was soooo good in this!!!
"Nothing ever hurts like you think it will..you go numb" so fucking true
I dunno man. Ever get a metal splinter under your fingernail?
Most famous scene of movie....in 1984 it was hard hitting.

Great great film. Love these dudes including Uncle Pete, Barney and Eddie. I even like Jimmy the Cheese Man.
Yeah, but his Mozzarela was tough like Leather.
@@sasazivanovic777 Not the first time neither….
Nothing ever hurts as much as you think it will
At the end, the great Frank Vincent!!….RIP.
I know that he screamed "UNCLE PETE" when they started cutting his thumb off but when I first saw this movie I was a kid and I thought he screamed TACO PEE!!!! I couldn't figure out why anyone would say something like that.
Probably my all time favorite movie..
LMAO.
Disturbing, in that "Uncle Pete" appears to feel sad for "Pauley," yet, as a "made" guy, Pete's first loyalty is to the mob.
If it wasnt he would have got wacked
Joe Lucero Uncle Pete's loyalty was to his own life, and his family's life
Uncle Pete did what he could.
As it should be...that is if you take that oath and join the mob your loyalty first to the mob

Charlie! THEY TOOK MY THUMB!!!!!!!!!!!
A real sleeper film
Not even close kid.
Edge of seat is more like it.
Eric Roberts is brilliant in his role and so was Mickey Rourke too.
Love it ...they recruited the king Frankie Vincent to take Paulies thumb!
"Now go get your fcuking shinebox".
😂

UNCLE PETEYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!
Tony musings A.K.A. Uncle Pete's look like an cool old badass👍💥
Played Don Nino schibeta in oz. Superb performance in my opinion
There's Phil Leotardo cutting the thumb.

@@jeffreymiller9808 making his bones
CHAAAAAAALIIIIEEEEEE.. they took my thumb
UNCLE PETE!!!!!!
Idk why but I got turned on when he started caressing and kissing his face towards the end and Eric was all helpless
Nino b4 OZ
Remember Tony Musante from police show Toma
Why does pete kiss him ?!

I mean how do u expect a guy to act especially when he knows he’s gunna do a number lol losing a thumb are u serious? Most would piss their pants
NYC has guys today that act and sound like that. In real life they over act.

Could not disagree more. This was an academy award winning performance. Legendary.
I know dudes exactly like Paulie he was right on point. You don't know what you're talking about.
