- In late October/early November 2008 a trio of Black Diamond athletes, Kevin Jorgeson, Matt Segal and Alex Honnold, traveled to sample the famed British gritstone where runouts, groundfalls and surgical technique are all part of the game. Between rain showers and squalls, the trio managed a host of quick repeats of some of the country's hardest rated testpieces, sparking amazement and grading debates throughout the UK.

You can watch the rope as Kevin falls off the top of Gaia... Alex reels in a good armful and it means the difference between a scary but safe fall and two broken legs. Alex is good at more than just climbing!!
what a catch....wow !!! I thought he was going to crater for sure.....I know were I in that position, my half awake and baked climbing partners would most definitely have not been paying near enough attention and I surely would have broken my leg and left a serious crater full of blood and entrails....excellent heads up Alex !!

Great vid..and great climbing....its good to see some of the best Yanks enjoying Brit grit...me thinks they have sum Derbyshire/ Yorkshire blood in there veins. Luv to know what they think of Mr Dawes routes.
Me too, was scared for the guy falling off Gaia. Amazing climber, bit of a charger like Dawes himself!! Honnollt looks too talk.... Cheater!

@jacobboyd06 oh ok so the "grit" belay is when the belayer must do what they did 4 alex and kevin when they r a dangerous runout to were if he didnt back up as far as possible he'l hit the deck... "wink"

I'm a bit puzzled as to why he wouldn't put some gear in at 2:22 ... would have diminished his chances of hitting the deck considerably. Indeed a perfect catch though.
There are no gear placements higher up. Watch any other video of 'Gaia E8 6c' and you'll see the same gear.

You are thinking about Kevin Jorgeson.
@WeBeChillin420 all climbs in the grit are poorly protected so theres always a chance you will deck. So its up to the belayer to run as the climber is falling so that they can pull out the slack quickly. In this case, his options are fall or run down hill however ;)

I am surprised these Americans can do grit so well. Hard grit should need lots of practice you would think.
