If i can add another tip : Don't chase grades. What matters is the fun ypu have, grades are only an indicator and are often completely off to what you believe are "standard grades".
So yeah. Just climb, have fun, and be safe out there!

I disagree. If you want to be a better climber, it can be a good indicator that you are moving in the right direction or that you need to do more/less

I'm the definition of a FAN of climbing. I didn't find my love for the sport until way later in life... AFTER the better part of 20 years beating up my body doing martial arts and competitive powerlifting (not to mention my huge fear of falling; as Alex Honnold would say). But, I love watching people who are super passionate about their climbing, especially those who aren't superstar climbers. I mean, they're amazing too, but regular climbers are just as impressive to me. I appreciate everyone who would put their successes and failures online, and bear their vulnerabilities to the internet so folks like me can live vicariously through you.

    • @512andbeyond

That's the cool thing about climbing - you can kinda start whenever and end up wherever and have a very similar experience. You should check out my vlogs if you're into that. I'm putting climbing first for a year and sharing what happens along the way on UA-cam... plenty of successes, even more failures 😆

I turned 34 this year. I stumbled across this video while searching for "solo climbs" on UA-cam. You aren't talking about the six steps of climbing. You describe what every single person needs to hear: life lessons. These are six of the most important things people should understand about life:
    1. Be who you are.
    2. Confidence in yourself is everything. You can do it if you say you will.
    3. What works for one person might not work for me, and what works for me might not work for the next person.
    4. Conditions matter. Control your surroundings when you can. Pick your battles.
    5. Surround yourself with people who have goals that match yours and push them to achieve those goals.
    6. Life will hurt you, and that's okay. Get back up and don't give up.

I don't think the last tip is really true. Sometimes you have to admit you're bad at something to push yourself to practice it more. I was bad at slab, but I practiced and I've gotten so much better! On the other hand, I'm also bad at large round holds, idk what they're called where the advice I hear is always to get as much surface area as possible on the hold. Most every time I try hard, I walk away with a super sore wrist from trying to bear down on those big holds with my entire tiny hand. Hasn't really improved even when in my head the route is straightforward, I just... can't stick the holds.

  • @enigma1000
    @enigma1000 Місяць тому

I respect people who climb and I wish I could too. However, there is much I disagree with in this video. Confidence is not everything. Confidence is great when it is justified. I wonder how many climbers died from being confident. And that confidence being misplaced.
It’s a very fine line between getting a relatively minor injury and a life changing or life ending one. Living on the edge is fine if that’s your thing but encouraging it as a choice, maybe not such a smart idea.
While positive self talk is great, telling yourself you are what you aren’t is just delusional. Just because I tell myself I am something, even if I believe it, doesn’t make it true. People who genuinely believe they are ‘God’s chosen people’ is, in my humble opinion, a vivid current example of this.
You can be what you believe you can be. Not necessarily. You might be but many, perhaps most, will not. Attempting things outside your comfort zone may be great for personal development. But thinking irrationally is not usually a great starting point.
Has every climber really had more than minor injuries?

IMO injury is a part of sport. And the essence of the point is to not become so preoccupied with avoiding injury that it interferes with your enjoyment of the sport. Some injuries are unavoidable - and in choosing to participate in this sport, I accept that risk and deem it okay.

i think it’s ok for different people to make different judgements about how often they wanna get hurt. there’s no way to completely avoid injury so that means it’s a risk vs reward calculation that will vary from person to person. if your main goal is getting good at climbing some injuries are probably inevitable

@512andbeyond I said it stupidly, but I think that just telling yourself you are something does not help, if you want to become different in a certain aspect of your life or develop your skills in a certain direction within your sport of choice, you have to accept your insuficciencies and change your habits and train toward your ideal.

A mio parere, appigli cosi minuscoli non e arrampicare mi dispiace. E ammazzarsi proprio e basta. Troppo facile.
