  • Ushaw College (formally St Cuthbert's College, Ushaw), is a former Catholic seminary near the village of Ushaw Moor, County Durham, England, which is now a heritage and cultural tourist attraction. The College is known for its Georgian and Victorian Gothic architecture and listed nineteenth-century chapels. The College now hosts a programme of art exhibitions, music and theatre events, alongside tearooms and a café.
It was founded in 1808 by scholars from the English College, Douai, who had fled France after the French Revolution. Ushaw College was affiliated with Durham University from 1968 and was the principal Roman Catholic seminary for the training of Catholic priests in the north of England.
In 2011, the seminary closed, due to the shortage of vocations. It reopened as a visitor attraction, marketed as Ushaw: Historic House, Chapels & Gardens in late 2014 and, as of 2019, receives around 50,000 visitors a year. The County Durham Music Service and Durham University Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring are based at the college and buildings at the college are also used by Durham University Business School.

I did a course there in 1990, the scheme was ran by Interchurch Skill Training, the different courses were based in the old Junior House segment of the building, good setting for a horror story me thinks. Many thanks to Peace Drone for making the video.

@@PeaceDroneAerialVideo I was told about some of it's history, the building I was in had 3 storeys, the top section was were the solid wood cubicles were to house the young 11-15 year old boys. At the time I was there they were in the process of stripping all the solid wood paneled walls out. The gardens at the back, were used allegedly, for more evil purposes than just growing flowers and vegetables, in the far distant past.
I was also told there was a secret tunnel between Ushaw Seminary and Durham Cathedral .

@@PeaceDroneAerialVideo Plenty of ancient mine workings to inter link, when I was on that scheme, the old bus that brought all the YTS and ETs to that building used to chug up that driveway, on a cold misty winters morning it looked more like The Hammer House Of Horror. The manager of Skill Training, a Mr Morissey, used to walk around the Junior House with his two Alsatian dogs looking more like a commandant from a prison camp.
