  • This song is about the Falklands War which took place in 1982 in the South Atlantic, the islands of Falkland Islands and South Georgia. This war was fought between the United Kingdom and Argentina.
    A british naval task force was deployed and sent to the islands, and shortly after their arrival the argentinians surrendered to the british.
    The Falklands is british, and will remain so.
    LYRICS:
    Sent to the islands to secure what is ours
    Marching ashore in the cover of night
    Hide until dawn and attack in the twilight
    Shake them awake with the thunder of guns
    Orders from the iron lady, (get the islands back)
    Failure will not be accepted, call for artillery strike, launch attack
    We are (back in control), force them to surrender
    (take what is ours), restore law and order
    (back in control), push them further out to sea
    (falklands in our hands), back under british reign
    Push them back further and out from the islands
    Into our fleet that will stop their retreat
    Mark their positions and call in the airforce
    Harriers and vulcans strikes at our command
    Orders from the iron lady, (get the islands back)
    Failure will not be accepted, call for artillery strike, launch attack
    We are (back in control), force them to surrender
    (take what is ours), restore law and order
    (back in control), push them further out to sea
    (falklands in our hands), back under british reign
    Back in control, force them to surrender
    Take what is ours, restore law and order
    (back in control), push them further out to sea
    (falklands in our hands)
    (back in control), force them to surrender
    (take what is ours), restore law and order
    (back in control), push them further out to sea
    (falklands in our hands), back under british reign

    I suppose that's a good response. If we don't react, they won't consider it to be worth it. In a few years we'll have the two new aircraft carriers and be able to take any way to the Argies. The islanders and Gibraltarians are too tough to allow the hispanics to break them.

    Replying to myself. Argentina (United Provinces then) was self-governed since 1810 and independent since 1816. The country has been the same, with only its name changing. Before 1811, Spain was in the islands. Britain had left them since 1776.

  • @Myles0Harcourt
    @Myles0Harcourt 11 років тому +1

    It's a good thing because it gives the islanders a certain degree of leverage over Argentina. If Argentina tries to cancel flights to the Islands then the families of the dead won't be able to visit. The Islanders can also say; "Cristina, you do that to us, then kiss goodbye to your dead, bitch!"

  • @SierraB109
    @SierraB109 11 років тому +2

    Did you know that all of the Argie dead from the war are buried in a cemetery outside Darwin. The Argies refused to take back any of the bodies. They wanted them buried on the islands "to ensure a continuing Argentine presence". What are your thoughts on that?

  • @SierraB109

    Another thought on a possible 2nd Falklands War. The British Armed Forces would be world class anyway. The Argies might be third rate on a good day. Then, factor in that your troops have 12 years of combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan. The only Argies with combat experience are retired or sitting behind a desk. And now that the Queen Elizabeth class is coming online in the next couple of years, you once again will have real carriers. The odds for them just keep getting slimmer.

I have a book called "Against the Odds" about military victories in the face of great odds, and 13 out of twenty are British victories. You folks seem to have a habit of this. This comment section is filled with raging Argentinians or boasting brits (I am British). Argentina has no right to the islands, they never really owned it, but then again we brits didn't originally own it either. Argentina is like that kid who sits in a seat, leaves for a few while, then comes back shouting at a kid sitting in that seat. The seat isn't the other kids either, but he is sat in it and sadly you have no valid reason to be sat there instead, just accept it. But people need to grow up in this comment section. "Britain is mighty", yeh we r really mighty going from global superpower to a dot on the map in less than 100 years.

    I will need to disagree with you because of the particularities of the conflict. They want to remain British, but, what would you expect to happen if they are of British descent? Furthermore, there was an Argentine population there which was compelled to flee by the British in 1833. Did not they have a similar right back then? Former colonies such as Hong Kong were returned. IMHO their rights are to be looked after, but they, for their partiality and circumstances, have no saying in the outcome.

  • @corrideat
    @corrideat 12 років тому

    Technically, Britain left them to Spain in 1776. They've been Spanish until 1811, and later Argentine since 1829. The British took them illegally and expelling the existing (Argentine) population in 1833. What you say is not quite true.

    • @bbtfan4617
      @bbtfan4617 4 роки тому

      The British only expelled a military garrison. Civilian settlers were allowed to stay if they wanted,and many did choose to. Read about Charles Darwin's journey on those islands; two gauchos were his guides and he mentions other Latin inhabitants there.
      Of course Argentina itself was undergoing a bunch of civil wars at the time, and these people probably decided it wasn't so bad to be part of the British Empire.

  • @Argentvs

    Patagonia. Were all under administration of the United Provinces as it were before as part of the River Plate Viceroyalty. Is basic Spain colonys in America history.
    If you know the Portugal and Spain treaty (Treaty of Tordesillas), all the lands in west to 46º 37' meridiane were property of Spain.
    Those lands under administration of River PLate Viceroyalty since 1776, wich becomes in the United Provinces of River Plate/Argentine Republic.

  • @Argentvs
    @Argentvs 12 років тому

    what?

  • @corrideat
    @corrideat 12 років тому

    Well, you probably need to re-read history. Since 1811 there was nobody there, and from August 1829 till December 1831 the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata (Argentina) were there. The United States arrived later, and in December 1832 to January 1833 the Argentine Confederation (Argentina) was there as well. The British took the isles illegally and clandestinely in 1833, colonizing them and forcing the Argentine populace to flee.

      The falklands were British before Argentina even existed. The only other nations that could possibly even contest the islands are the Spanish and the French, of whom were on the island for very short periods of time and left. It was Britain that settled on there permanently. Argentina creating a claim is just laughable!

    They hardly do dancing well. And their military dictatorships never last long before being replaced by some new dictatorship. But I get your point...

  • @corrideat
    @corrideat 12 років тому +1

    I guess it's sad that the only justification you give for British sovereignty relies on military or tactical superiority instead of fairness. Let me remind you that during the Falklands War NATO did not take that many steps, and that the USA initially attempted to mediate. Of course, times have changed and there is no USSR now. However, I am confident that should another war happen (which is itself unlikely), NATO will not intervene unless the conflict escalates to, e.g., English territory.

      The Argentinians were worse equipped generally than the British during the Falklands war and the US were selling both sides arms. However, the Argentine forces, allegedly, had night vision where the british didn't and we're mostly firing at muzzle flashes during night battles.
      The main problem was Argentine forces were mainly conscripts (IIRC) and didn't want to be fighting a war they had no business in, a war designed to distract the general populace from the financial struggles they were currently facing, and in turn wouldn't fight as hard (and potentially die) as volunteer soldiers who were travelling 8,000 miles to defend a tiny island just because it was, and will remain, British land.

    I'm pretty sure it was the Argentinians that were getting slaughtered by a much smaller British task force ;) The British flag will continue to fly over the Falklands and there isn't anything you or your third world country can do about it :)

      So are the Antilles islands,but they are French and Dutch territories. French Guiana is still a French Territory and,nobody disputes it.
      The people who live on those islands want to remain under Britain.If those islands belong to anybody it belongs to them.
