- Phillip Sear plays the published piano solo version of a famous theme used in the 1960 Jack Lemmon/Shirley MacLaine/Fred MacMurray movie 'The Apartment'.

Charles Williams ( real name Isaac Cozerbreit ) (1893-1978) was a British conductor and composer of film and light music who took the same professional name as his Polish-born father, who was also in the entertainment business. For more on Charles Williams, see: bit.ly/2ulEGeS
Although this piece is known as 'Theme from The Apartment', it was actually recycled from the 1949 movie 'The Romantic Age' which featured a young Petula Clark. I have stuck to the published piano version except that I have used split octaves in the dramatic descending octave passage in the middle of the piece (as is done in the original piano and orchestra version!).

How beautiful... I so wish I could play a musical instrument... you are very talented. Also, The Apartment is one of my very favourite films...
Thanks. Joanna. Maybe you could learn to play an instrument. As a start, you could try a melodica (which I also play): t.ly/rX0A .
well done !!!!
Thank you!
Totally beautiful, thank you!
Thank you too, Matthew!
Fascinating, both, this piece of art and the hands of the interpreter. Just love what this sounds create in my brain.
Thanks so much for that, Sandra!

Thank you, Atmesh!
Thank you Phillip! This is on my to learn list... so much music, so little time... and it takes so long to learn! I wasn't aware of the 'Jealous Lover' title, only knew it as the 'Theme From The Apartment'!
We just don't stop learning! ~Bill
Thanks, Bill. As you say, 'So much music, so little time'!
Watching the movie now on TCM - I too will learn to play this on piano
So little time!!!!! So true!!!!
Nice tune. Well executed. Another classic from the Sear repertoire.

That's great!
Be-a-u-ti-ful!!! - the piece and the performance which took the right decisions (about the split octaves... in your info.). Thanks also for the background your gave us in your info.
My pleasure. This must be quite well-known, as there are one or two other recordings of the piano version on UA-cam.
Excellent! I have this same edition, but can't do justice to it as well as you do. Nice technique. Thanks for posting
Thank you very much - it's great that you play it too!
Been listening to your performances of these wonderful old movie theme arrangements--this one, the Dream of Olwen, Laura, The Glass Mountain--loving it! Have you done the Cornish Rhapsody? IMSLP has a good version of it posted
Thank you. I thought I had done the Cornish Rhapsody - I will have to check!
Also reminded me a bit of 'The Dream of Olwyn'.
So what about that sometime??
It's already on my channel!
Hmm... nie wiem :)
Thank you. It is not as well-known as his 'Dream of Olwen'.
I have a long list of pieces to record, but will add it!
