I'd love another "Looking" movie. I fell in love with those characters...every single one of them. Brilliant casting and excellent acting!

I just stumbled upon Looking in 2022. It’s hard to believe that it was criticized when it was released, because the writing and acting were brilliant. I binge-watched the series because I couldn’t wait to see where the characters were going. A lot of laughs, a lot of tears.

Man, who do we need to collectively bother to get another season of looking ? I've just watched it this week entirely. I laughed so hard and cried even harder. All the stories were beautiful real raw and vehemently passionate in their nature . No other queer show has impacted me like this, I can honestly say it changed me for the better. It will forever hold a special place in my heart. ✌❤🌈

Tovey is himself a total darling so to hear him speak so glowingly about Groff brings tears of joy to my eyes. How on earth I missed 99% of everything these two brilliant men have done over the years is a testament to my insularity. But I'm massively glad they're being appreciated by so many others.

Just finished Looking. Such a great show, is so well written and I love the cast. Wish it was not cancelled but I feel like the story ended in a good way with the movie.

I discovered Looking this year and got disappointed when I discovered that there was not a season 3 of that show. Such wonderfully portrayed characters. I agree with Russel Tovey. This show would have been a huge deal if released now.

Agreed. There's not alot of a-list gay actors, and that's because there's still an anti-gay bias. In order for the playing field to be leveled, there needs to be more hiring of gay people, not just in gay roles, but in ALL roles. The Academy Awards Board is filled with more white, straight men then there are women, LGBTQ, and people of color, BUT it has progressing. We still need to do better!

Watching Kevin and Patricks's character arc really hurt me so much. Everything Russell theorizes about Kevin sounds very plausible to me, he just can't make the internal process necessary

Oh Russell absolutely nailed the answer around cishet actors playing queer roles! I feel exactly the same - we're not saying cishet people can never play us, we're saying there is more work to be done first before we can even get to that place because we've for so long not been allowed to tell these stories ourselves.

Great interview; I loved the line of questioning used here. Russell is articulate in explaining his views; he's a great actor, IMHO.

Good actors can be anything they want to be. After all it comes down to the quality of the writing. I have seen some great actors in bad plays where even their talent cannot save it.

am obsessed with you Russel but please mate... this is extreme to expect gays to play gays. Please Don’t support this lunacy.

gay people should be able to play gay characters. You think another straight actor should play a coming out scene, or talking about being gay? You also didn't hear what Russell said. He said there is NOT equality with gay people telling their OWN stories! Throughout history gay people couldn't even come out and be a sucessful actor, now straight people are taking gay roles? It's not right.

Russell is my biggest crush right now. He is on my screensaver and desktop. Please please please don’t be saying ‘oh we were so oppressed we need special treatment’. You are gorgeous and massively talented. you don’t need to participate in oppression Olympics. Not to mention it is such a turn off. Please please, it’s a request. Not to mention being gay is nowhere as disadvantaged as before. Specially in west.
Imagine No Russell in Him and Her. The bbc gem I liked little more than looking.

@@dova-oj1kt I never said "special treatment" it's actually you saying you want special treatment is you, you want special treatment for straight people to play all the roles and leave gay people out.

    • @MK-uw8qt
      @MK-uw8qt 3 роки тому +5

@@dova-oj1kt gay people are still discriminated against. Oppressions Olympics? You are seriously clueless. Gay people are literally being harrassed, bullied, and discriminated like never before. The reason why it's better is because of people like me, not because of people like you who don't even want to hire gay people for jobs. Quit being stupid.

Russell is a talented actor, but I am not interested in his personal life. There are a number of shows I am fond of which he stars in such as Him & Her, The Job Lot, The Sister and Being Human, all which paint him in a very different light.

I agree with 1/2 of your point. I agree Russell is an INCREDIBLE Actor. Any role he's in, he truly pours his heart and soul in it, however, if Russell wants to discuss his personal life, he has every right to share it. If you're not interested, don't listen.

The critics were bent out of shape because they didn't have every type of gay in the series
