Sir George Ivan Morrison is a brilliant musician and singer. First time I heard Brown Eyed Girl when I was a kid I instantly fell in love with his voice. One of the greats!❤
Van is always my go to. ALL his albums. If I could only have the music of 1 artist with me on a desert island, it is Van Morrison. His music has meant so much to me.
Same for me. Veedon Fleece is probably my all-time favorite album by Van.
He has the unique ability to put people in a trance with his music.
Written, composed, and produced by Van himself. Oh....and he plays like 5 instruments on his songs. Brilliant artist. And the story of John Dunn and other marginalized poets and the power of the written word through the ages......beautiful!
I listen to a lot of reactions but I find your stuff is brilliant
I come from Ireland and I'm😅 living in Holland and I love Van Morrison
🎉❤
Keep up the good work you know good music when you hear it
Van moves the music from high to low, and he says the oneness and changes to the wonder.
Gorgeous, just gorgeous. Van is a treasure. 🔥
This is timely! I just checked out John Donne's collected poems from the library. A contemporary of Shakespeare, he wrote a lot of love and lust poems.
“O my America! My new-found-land”
Wherever you start with Van the Man, you'll doubtless end up down his deep rabbit hole. Wonderful artist. 4:21
I can hear Robbie saying Van the man right now. 🙏RIP Robbie!
Lots of great music came out of Northern Ireland. Van Morrison, Snow Patrol, The Undertones, Ash and many more. For me, Van Morrison is at the top!❤
Love me some Van Morrison. I grew up listening to him, my mom had his songs and Leon Russell spinning on the record console all the time. What beautiful memories🎶 🤗 Thanks for sharing this one, fellas.
Here's another suggestion for another song by "Van Morrison - Cyprus Avenue - 9/23/1970 - Fillmore East, New York, NY (Official)" and if you'd like to hear another fabulous piano player then check out "Leon Russell - Wild Horses (Live)" (by the Channel: A Place in Time) this performance was in 1980 at Perkins Palace in Pasadena, California. Leon Russell was amazing to look at he had a kind of stage presence that would mesmerize an entire audience...this is magical stuff, guys.
I love the respect you give the music.
Wow, never heard that one before! The best of an old Irish balladeer, the crowd loved it! Thanks for the excellent reaction….on point as always….
I bought the LP on it's release in Toronto in 1984. It was only available as an import. No seconds thoughts in paying $40 Can.
John Donne was a 16th century cleric and metaphysical poet, whose various works were considered too controversial for its time and were published long after his death. Van Morrison cites several others of this ilk by name, including American poet Walt Whitman and Lebanese mystic poet Khalil Gibran, Iranian poet Omar Khayyam and Irish poet William Butler Yates, presumably all of whom Mr. Morrison studied in his spiritual journey. One of the reasons Van Morrison is considered a superb artist, among his many musical talents, is the depth of his lyrical body of work.
Was that the same Yates who founded a chain of wine bars in the UK?😂
@@gerardodoherty9178 That's the guy!
It's Yeats, not Yates. I named my cat Yeats .
@@jimagent1826 I should’ve caught that but I didn’t.
Who else but Van Morrison could take a Buddy Holly song titled Rave On, connect it to John Donne and into Van’s library of knowledge he
had on history, poetry, writers like Walt Whitman, Omar Khayam, Kahlil Gibran, and, lest we forget, the Irish poet“rave on Mr. Yeats!”. Add philosophy, nature, and theosophy, and this is the sort of song Morrison leaps into the vanguard of the mystic musing off rock & roll.
Thank you, guys, for playing such an eclectic song on your program. Nobody does it like Airplay Bests. Nobody does it better than you.
One of the best soul singers ever. In the seventies, nobody could touch him.
In my opinion there’s nobody can touch him today - still pumping out great albums - absolutely a one off - pure soul
Van live, it do not get any better🙂. He always performs with A+ musicians. His vocals were at their best in the early 90's. "A night in San Francisco" is incredible, deeper into the blues! With great ballads as well.
You've hit the motherlode with this...
great reaction, i had forgotten how good this is
Van 'The Man' is everything.
“Listen to the lion” another deep cut - beautiful music
Thanks I downloaded this after hearing you play it. I’m now enjoying his music on my car journeys.
Beautiful 😮
Van Morrison is one of the greatest vocalist of our era (soul, blues, R&B, rock.) A full album listen and reaction of 'Astral Weeks' would be a great experience. Thanks for a great reaction, as usual.
Some of my favorite VM music is on Irish Heartbeat, an album that often gets overlooked. It was a collaboration with the trad Irish band The Chieftains. I especially love "Carrickfergus," "My Lagan Love" and "Raglan Road."
The instrumental intro on "My Lagan Love" is exquisite.
"Star of the County Down"...
I agree
I hear a tapestry of music with Van. It's always beautiful and soul enriching.😊
I'm really appreciating this journey of appreciation you're on. Van Morrison's work is a magic well of wonders.
this was soooo FINE, thank you men, i loved it❤️
Great voice. Van the man!
Great reaction fellas, Van is the Man no doubt!
Absolutely one of the best Irish artists of all time. Van the Man
Van the Man always feels the music
This song sends a powerful but simple message which you'd probably have to listen to a couple of times,
Van is a true patriot
You can not go wrong with Van. An extensive catalog to check out. Also played with many artists. Jeff Beck, Johnie Lee Hooker, B. B. King and performed in The Last Waltz. To name a few. Excellent reaction fellas. Much appreciated 🙏 ❤
And many played for him… that is where Ronnie Montrose got his start playing with Van.
An excellent Crazy Love duet with Ray Charles when Van was inducted into the song writers Hall of Fame.
I have seen "The Belfast cowboy " a few times over the years and back in the day he could be a cantankerous old git 😅 but when he wants he can be sublime like here,he has made so much legendary celtic soulful music, get stuck in lads so many great songs to choose from.
BROTHER!!! You shouldn't have stopped it when you did, either!!! The band was "in the pocket", and Van's vocals were soaring over top of them. NEVER stop the flow of that kind of magic. NEVER.
I have all the music ever recorded by Sir Van Morrison. Live at the Grand and Into the Music are the two LPs I recommend to people not familiar with the music with this master artist.
First time for me on this track. Good poetry in the beginning, a bridge between the Beatniks & Hippy aesthetics......
Admirably eclectic selection guys. Underated album, that.
Thanks for rocking with us!!
Love Van. Havre seen him live twice in recent years. Magical. Hope to see him again. Followed him since the early '70s.
I'm supposed to be cutting the grass, but anytime someone listens to Van, I'll listen with them.
Try Van's In the Days Before Rock 'N' Roll for an education
"On Hyndford Street"
Never did I think I would ever see anyone reacting to this….👍 f brilliant.
For a change of pace, try Gloria from the 2008 Hollywood Bowl Concert. The improv is always on point.
His band is insane
Some similarities to Gil-Scott Heron.
What's the word???😂
Amazing historical timeline….love “ fill the senses on natures bright green shady path”….we could heal with that….
You should do Jackie Wilson Said (I’m in heaven when you smile). One of Van’s best.
Always comes easy from this man. Endless song list. Great live!
I looked up BadAZz in the dictionary and it said....See Van Morrison 😂
"Rave on Van Morrison" {what a Giant}
Haha, I would've read 'Donne' as French, too, since it's the French word for 'give'.
Love Van
what an interesting choice, good stuff of course but I would have thought more studio versions. Van Morrison & John Lee Hooker - Serves Me Right To Suffer 🎸💎 ua-cam.com/video/kdLz-Rr3Eho/v-deo.html Van Morrison - Queen Of The Slipstream 👑 ua-cam.com/video/n1E1JE5miz0/v-deo.html
Love Van's music. He has written some absolutely fabulous songs. It's a very long list! When you see him live, you're not sure what you're going to get. He can be absolutely brilliant or in one of his moods and just mailing it in--I've seen both. He always has great musicians playing in his bands. It's Too Late to Stop Now is a great live performance so is Hollywood Bowl 2008 and many others. Everyone tells reactors to check out his live performance of Caravan in The Last Waltz, but to me, it is way too rushed and takes away from the intended vibe of a brilliant song.
Van "The Man"
Go and catch a falling star,
Get with child a mandrake root,
Tell me where all past years are,
Or who cleft the devil's foot,
Teach me to hear mermaids singing,
Or to keep off envy's stinging,
And find
What wind
Serves to advance an honest mind.
If thou be'st born to strange sights,
Things invisible to see,
Ride ten thousand days and nights,
Till age snow white hairs on thee,
Thou, when thou return'st, wilt tell me,
All strange wonders that befell thee,
And swear,
No where
Lives a woman true, and fair.
If thou find'st one, let me know,
Such a pilgrimage were sweet;
Yet do not, I would not go,
Though at next door we might meet;
Though she were true, when you met her,
And last, till you write your letter,
Yet she
Will be
False, ere I come, to two, or three.
John Donne
You should react to van morrison-domino
One born every 50 years
John Donne is an Irish Poet. it’s pronounced “Dunn”.
Cyprus...I can't spell
I tried, but it's just not my bag.
Van has many, many fans. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them 😕 😮
Horrific
