I was in Sevierville TN. Saw a tribute group to the Statler Brothers, American Pride. Man that was good. But the guys did a Mel Street song, Borrowed Angles. He is still making a mark today in country music. Man Im glad to see REAL COUNTRY is growing in popularity.
So much of what they sing today is crossover to rock and such which ok some is ok , Like How Travis Tritt rocked Country, but some I agree is awful. What is worse the trashy attire.
Why all country favorite singers had lived short, like Jim Reeves, Mel Street, John Denver. So good songs Mel Street lingering voices deep inside, I could just imagine if you lived longer I knew you might had so many many songs for us. Long live memories of yours thru these songs.
Quit judging this man for his taking his life depression is such a disease enjoy the music everyday someone you know or love is in depression its sad but his music lives on.
Very True. What A Great Country Music Singer. And Story Teller. I Love His Voice. And Even Sing Some Of His Song's Myself. In August Of 1974. My Father. Who Was A Good Country Guitar Player. Got To Work Two Show's With Mel Street. And My Dad. Loved Mel's Singing Also. I'Ve Got A Great Picture Of Them Together. At The Bar Together. Great Memories. Nashville. Forgot. About Real Country Music.
I grew up living for a period of time within 200 yards of Mel Street. Mel lived right outside of Bluefield, WV in a little community call Brushfork for a few years. Little did I know that Mel would go from the local TV stations 'Country Showcase' to Nashville and a number of country music chart toppers. Smokey Mountain Memories is my favorite song by Mel. I also worked with his brother Harry. Read the book by George Jones titled 'I Lived To Tell It All'. George was let out of a Louisiana jail to travel to Nashville where he sang at Mel's funeral. Mel left us at the young age of 42. RIP..............Mel Street
My dad introduced me to his music a couple of years ago and am hard core listener now. I grew up on REAL country music....Jones, Haggard, Conway, Cash, Straight, Willie....I'm sure you get the picture. I'm glad I've been introduced to his music. It's too bad talented men like Mel, Whitley and Stewart left us too soon.
Mel was a great singer. My husband recorded one of his songs borrowed angels. Also we were raised in the same county and he lived at Garden Creek about 5 miles from us.
Thank you. I see comments under some of his songs saying he was from West Va. And I've replied to a few that No, he wasn't, he was from. GARDEN CREEK (which name changed years ago to Rowe Va, even a post office closed and they combined 2). Which wasn't far from Grundy Va. But there on Garden Creek is a marker stating this was Mel Streets birthplace. Just to the road was my Daddy's homeplace. He was CM "Kin" McGlothlin, last son of 14 kids of Neally & Margie McGlothlin. They lived up Rosen Camp rd, a little ways up on the left. My Aunt Ruth Street lived there for many years after our grandpa died, until she was up in age and her & her husband moved in with her youngest daughter right beside her. At the edge of that road is the marker for Mel Street.
@@suedean1032 I never knew he had recorded as many good songs as he did. We used to watch him on Chl 6 in Bluefield all the time. Mom always talked about him driving a cab in his younger days before he moved to Bluefield.
How much do you know about his family and if any are left and or what happened to them after his death. So sad but thankfully his wonderful music lives on. And i don t believe he lived all his songs.
SUCH A GREAT SONG THAT WILL BE REMEBERED FOR YEARS AN YEARS TO COME...WELL HE LEFT US SOME OF HIS GREAT TALENT TO SHARE FOREVER..REST IN PEACE MEL AN SURE YOUR SINGING UP ABOVE....ALWAYS IN COUNTRY MUSIC....SONGWRITER DOMINICK PATTERSON
Mel's music invokes memories of jukebox tunes playing in a small town dimly lit, smokey filled "beer-joint", while ceiling fans whirled above. Every other beer on the bar was a PBR and the place was serving up steamed blue crabs and shrimp (Chesapeake Bay country) on a breezy warm summer's nite. Think 1964 - 1972.
This man could sing. I am sitting here right now in the shadow of Clinch Mountain about twenty miles from where Mel was born and raise. He was born in the small town of Grundy Virginia. He was supposed to have been my Uncle Dillow Streets cousin. He sang on a local T.V. station for years before he became so famous. It is sad that he chose to take his life the was he did.
No one should say one negative thing. This is pure soild country gold coming from deep in his soul. You can not write or sing like this unless you have been through hell. So yes its country because country is and pain and heart ach
.Mel street was hurting why can't people know that things get to you and you think there's nobody to talk to that's why he did it .my heart is with him at least I understand keep his music coming for me thank you you tube
Livingadream2, Your informational videos are pure quality and excellent. Thank you for your effort; much better than reading the side panel info. Mel was a fine country music artist and I purchased his music during the 1970s. How fortunate others and I get to learn more about an individual singer through your video montages.
I'll always admire Mel Street has been one of the greatest in country music rest in peace Mel Street you were one of the greatest thank you for your music
Because George too had his own demons and yes depression on its own is a terrible thing but complicated by booze its terrible..God Bless and RIP! Great singer...
I was and still am a big Mel Street fan. I remember when he died. I've always love his music and use to sing his hit "" Smokie Mountain Memories "". 5 stars
This true pure country music sound, kind sad he gone in heaven now. One greatest artist and talented singer and songwriter. Awesome song. 100%. Song use listen on radio stations back 1970s. At age 6, still listen in my 50s fans love classic hits songs.
Now this was real country music...this was drinking 🍸 music until you were stoned 😮😮I'm grateful that I stopped drinking 🍸 I wouldn't take a drink for a million dollars 😮😮😮
Pam my heart goes out to you. Mental health problems are overlooked by so many people. Depression is just like cancer, heart problems that every day american people have to face. However it has been shoved under the rug because no one really seems to care. However I do and I am so sorry that you lost your son.
i started this listen to him in 1973 when we came out of faster home. it was he and George Jones. Merle Haggard and Conway. And the females too! I love old country music not today.they got no soul or heart in to it! so keep it up
I played guitar for him. For 3 years. What a lost. A great boss and man.

@@lesliebrennan3351he committed suicide on his birthday in 1978. Depression was just too much for him.
Too bad we don't have country music like this anymore,!!

A true country song. What a contrast to the garbage Nashville slugs out these days. RIP Mel Street. God Bless genuine American Country Music!
A to the men
So much of what they sing today is crossover to rock and such which ok some is ok , Like How Travis Tritt rocked Country, but some I agree is awful. What is worse the trashy attire.
George Strait recorded this several years ago. Today’s radio won’t play George Strait anymore.
You're right Ray. Today's so called country music is pure crap.

People who don't have clinical depression don't understand and they need to walk in the shoes of people who do.

Good song by a great singer who didn't get the fame he deserved
