I think the most important thing would be the ability to cast video in the rear while driving
Hope they do AirPlay too, though I much prefer dedicated apps like Tesla has. I don't want to have to fidget with my phone to watch Netflix.
casting is better. why develop so many apps all over again to suit this system when they are already on your phone.

And google maps just announced cast capability this week as well. Would seem well timed, except of course casting won't work while driving. Sigh.
Rivian is one of the best!
Was so excited about this... Until- the bit about the data connection MUST be through Rivian LTE? That makes zero sense and should be the other way around. So now I have to pay for unlimited data on two separate services? (cell and rivian)
I'm hopeful that the reporting is wrong and that this would work w/ either device set as the hotspot server.
This is what I was told directly, otherwise I would not have brought it up as an important distinction. We'll see if that changes or not.

I could already watch whatever I want in my EV6 even while driving so I'm good. No extra monthly fee either which is super nice.
I been able to do this on my Volvo with Android automotive - is this just for casting since developers don't want to port their apps? I guess that's cool, but honestly if I have UA-cam already it's not that useful. Amazon Prime has an app and I've only used it twice in the whole year so that says something about how often I'm parked for long enough to bother with that type of content

Can you cast Google Maps or Waze? That's what I care about! Seems no if it stops when moving. Get me Carplay!!!!
Not yet but this is a huge step forward for future apps and functionality that owners have desperately been waiting for.
Ah, seems the fragmentation among Android Automotive has already started... Wouldn't be a Google operating system without it!
You mean exactly how Apple plans to make brand specific Apple CarPlay?
@@mavfan1Yeah but regular CarPlay works across the board.
@@CityLifeinAmericaFrom my understanding, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay is consistent across vehicles. It's Android Automotive that's an actual OS and is being fragmented by some vehicles getting Cast and others not. I think Apple's aversion to fragmentation is what's delaying their next generation of CarPlay.
This isn't a Google Fragmentation issue, this is a Rivian choice on what parts of Android Automotive they are choosing to use and not use. That would be like saying MacOS has a fragmentation issue because your IT dept disables features on your MacBook.
Future Rivian cars should consider there own dedicated WiFi link up?

You can Google Cast from iPhone apps. There are plenty of them!
Can I still use my phone to make phone calls? What happens if I need my phone to go to the store to pay for something the Netflix app should be built into the car

Yeah, I might be almost 70 years old and I might have problems with the Internet and me understanding this crap but your video and the actual operation does not work in my Rivian and I have a 24 Rivian so maybe you could redo your video and do a comprehensive work up of the way it works. It would be appreciated.
They have t released this just yet but it's coming. This was a showcase of the feature coming soon this year

@@Sw33tBabyRays Lol glad you’re excited about it. Maybe next time they can update the entire UI to be cleaner, for example: the off-road stats and maps can share the screen. It’s a very distracting interface as-is.
$6.7B net losses in FY22. $5.4B net losses in FY23. Rivian has laid off a total of 26% of its workforce. All of this despite doubling production and deliveries in 2023. It's not looking good for Rivian.
Wrong. They are ahead of their path to profitability and forecasted the losses from day 1. They have years of cash on hand even with losses. Try to be better informed.
