those connectors for the stator (the plug) they are a possible point of high resistance. (Poor connection).. obviously, that’s what happened here, and the wire kept getting hot, brittle, and it failed.. this was not uncommon with Honda Goldwing’s in the 1980s and 90s. Especially with owners that added lots of Christmas tree lights to their machine, causing the electrical system to work harder, making that connection get hotter… The thing to do in that case to prevent that from happening was, to solder the connections, eliminate the plug..
about the engine side cover gaskets. When I was a Honda mechanic at a motorcycle shop. A bulletin came from Honda headquarters in Japan to all service departments.
when replacing dry paper gaskets. Cover the gasket with rust oleum aluminum paint… get a can of the rust oleum paint used for brushing on, not spraying. Don’t shake or stir the can. Scrape the paste from the bottom of the unstirred can, and completely saturate any paper gaskets with that paste on both sides. Clean the surfaces the gasket goes between thoroughly, and put the gasket on wet. That gasket will never stick, it won’t leak. and can be used over and over. I have been doing that since the 1970s with the same can of rust oleum paint. And I have never had a valve cover or side cover gasket stick since…
when working on any alternator. Be extremely careful handling those plugs. In those wires when the electrical system is charged and operational, with the motor running. Those alternators put out a lot of amps. They will kill you…
Thanks for the video. Now I know where the rectifier is, and the stator plug…

Nice to know it helped. There are very few videos of the 1300 repair and maintenance, and it took me forever just to find the rectifier to test it.

Always use a JIS screwdriver on your bike. Although they are similar looking, they are not the same. In a pinch you can grind a little off the nose of a regular Phillips and it fits pretty well. To identify a JIS fastener, you will see a small divot on the head.

I'll have to look into that. Although, I swear the metal in the heads was incredibly soft. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for sharing the routing on the wires is a serious pita. My rectifier showed fine by my miltimeter testing and while under load im only kicking 12.5v back to battery. Took it apart to check stator and it should have shown 18 to 20 ohm resistance and only showed 10 to 12. So going to be replacing it after i just got done in there changing my slave cylinder on the clutch (that was fun to wiggle out)

Just be sure to check that connection under the battery box. I found that failure was common to yamaha. Might save you some headache. Hope everything works out.

Do the gears have to be timed in any way

If you are referring to the gears that fell out during disassembly, No. I've had it on the road for a year or so. No problems with the stator work. The wiring I had to reperform recently due to my not soldering the connectors and instead using a crimp.

I replaced the stator and now I’m not getting fire, the sensor that reads the crank do you think that has anything to do with it?

@jacobmansfield2967 If you removed anything other than the stator cover during disassembly, I can't help you. The only thing you should have taken apart is the stator cover. Once removed, you only need to pull the stator from the cover and the wire stay.

I to removed gearcover because i didnt see how to remove wires ...once i put cover and gaskets back where do i add gear oil and where's the drain bolt and weep hole to know when i add enough thanks

That cover is the left hand side of the transmission case. Once you put it back on, you only need to fill the engine oil. The gear oil fill is on the end of the swing arm and is not affected by removing cover 2.

STAYTOR IS CORRECT PRONOUNCIATION. NOT SATTOR
