Wow! This is remarkable! What a great suggestion. Thanks Matt! The slide like we played at the music museum!!!!! The orchestra!! Love Love Love this rendition. Beautiful:) Another great reaction:)
Mesmerizing song and wonderful cover….I’ve always loved Sting’s voice and musicality- throw a bit of Gregory Porter in there with his smooth voice, his RnB, jazz and gospel chops, a great arrangement with live orchestra and slide and saxophone, and you have an absolutely fire rendition…I just love this one, how it starts out close to the original and then gradually spins into Gregory’s own magical feel. It felt as if he was respectful towards Sting without denying his own personal style. Thanks, Jeff, for sharing your appreciation with us once more 🙏 And yes, it’s Esperanza Spalding grooving along there in the audience-, another amazing musician….💜
Maaaan, Gregory Porter singing this Sting song …. phew!! And yes, with that orchestra - all in all so good and touching - thank you for reacting to this one and thanks to Matt for suggesting it🤗. I wonder if it could be the wonderful and incredibly talented bassist/singer/composer, Esperanza Spalding, sitting there in the pink dress on the front row, too (around 3:33 enjoying the slide guitar as well)? Love her, too💖❤️.
Oh, yes! Did not see that, had to look it up 🙂She was there playing for Wayne Shorter who also was a laureate that year 😊 Found a video with her performing at the banquet that follows the concert. A lot of great performances at those too! ua-cam.com/video/PYAYqi-l7oY/v-deo.html
Touching Sting here he also made a beautiful duet with the Melody Gardot (I’ve mentioned her to you earlier😉💜) last year - simple, captivating and very much both Sting’ish & Gardot’ish in a beautiful dance imo.: ua-cam.com/video/2VB6YYHIECQ/v-deo.html
@@petraljungberg Oh sorry, Petra, didn’t see your reply🙈☺️. Yes, and thank you for sharing🤗. I watched it back then but didn’t remember/connect it to this Sting-cover performance. Esperanza is such a wonderful, creative and talented musician and human being …. just love listening to her💜💖🤗
I met my friend Gregory in 2006 at The Saint Nicks Pub in Harlem. He is AMAZING. Your reaction to Greg's voice is exactly how I felt when I heard him sing for the first time.
I found this performance indispensably instructive. Dude perfectly demonstrates the way jazz maps over the blues. The orchestral arrangement is so tasteful. Absolutely love the fact you've bumped this. Sweet. Cheers!
AND on every song he does! I'm a fairly recent fan of his (via 'Impressions' channel on Dish) which made me fall in love with his voice so I've searched out his performances and am now obsessed ;) with his videos. Such a lovely performer.
I just wish that Gregory Porter would actually record this song, or even better than there would be an actual recording from this performance available for purchase.
i enjoyed watching you enjoy this performance. i've watched this video so many times. Everyone in the audience is totally enjoying the performance. he is so loved in europe. He doesn't take anything away from Sting. I wondered what Sting was thinking. the arrangement was perfect. I saw Esparanza Spaulding in the audience. She is fantastic also.
I had seen him on Tavis Smiley’s talk show and thought I’d check him out. And boy was I happy I did. What a voice what a presence! A few months later my cousin bought us tickets for his show at the Troy theater upstate NY. I’ll tell you we were right up front and when he started to sing no love dying here I was trying to hold back tears! The arrangement in this song is amazing also. You watch this video and the face’s in the audience are in awe. I can say this video and recording’s are amazing but you have to see him live! Unbelievable! Thanks for your reaction! It was great!👍🏻👏🏻
Porter digs Stimg; he has a really sweet cover of "Everything You Touch Is Gold"... He "kills" most things, which is why he has teo "Best Jazz Vocal Album" Grammie...
I was listening to this and scrolling and who should I see, I know that guy. So came across to your channel. I like using this song as a male vocal reference when I'm experimenting with my ear buds.
Já assisti umas 30 vezes. É incrível o que um bom intérprete pode fazer por uma música. Sting certamente se sentiu honrado por tanto respeito à sua composição.
He does a really good version! 🙂 There are a lot of great performances from the Polar Music Prize concerts. One of my favourite concert is when Paul Simon & Yo-Yo Ma got the prize because of the great joy they showed for the music and artists who played to them 😊
@@StrateleStudios A lot of those performances came to mind now 🙂 The year Max Martin got the prize was also a good one. And when First Aid Kit sang for EmmyLou Harris. I think the Swedes are good at doing these kind of concerts with the artists, orchestras, arrangements etc. Often surprising and a lot of joy 😊
Swedish Royal family sitting next to Sting... The older man is actual King of Sweden... Wow... I love Gregory's voice and phrasing, and I also love Sting's music. Killing combo 😍
@@StrateleStudios I am huge fan of everything from Nordic EU countries, but my love is Finland. So go for Nightwish, they are now much better then in Tarja's era... Floor is incredible singer and performer.
@@StrateleStudios Tarja Turunen, Anette Olzon and Floor Jansen. There's kind of argue between NW fans, who is (was) best, but they all three were different. I prefer Floor, because I don't like in my opinion emotions and behaviour of Tarja and poor singing skills of Anette, but it's up to you make your own research and opinion. Looking forward to see your reaction of NW, start with Ghost Love Score and then follow Gabriel Bardac's list... It will appears in the comments. Enjoy 😊
I've watched this clip many times and Gregory Porter does the song justice. Not unlike the Sting version but Porter's voice is unique, as is Stings' but it loses nothing in this rendition.
despite his soul/r&b sound, Gregory describes himself as more of a jazz singer. Have you heard 'If Love is Overrated'? It's 'the' song which turned me into a lifelong fan of his.
Sting shouldn't feel slighted, because nobody sings R&B better than it's creators. And that's black Americans. Gregory sang this song with a totally different spirit than Sting
I listen to this very often... He did a great job. I think Sting was definitely impressed.. Look at the reaction of his lady too...
Ohhhh that's one of my favourite ... look at Sting reaction in a couple on "passage"...no words!
Amazing performance. Loved it and still play it over and over.
Sting wrote a beautiful song, and no one will sing it better than him, but Mr. Porter did this justice.
Porter elevated this beautiful song with his voice. (Btw legend Eric Clapton is co writer)
Amazing song done by an AWESOME performer...❤
So sweet and rich and easy vocals and instrumentation.
