- The Spiderbeam fiberglass ham radio antenna mast is perfect for any wire antenna or lightweight yagi antenna. It comes in three sizes: 40ft, 60ft and a whopping 85ft. In this video I will show you my setup for the 40ft mast in a parks on the air (POTA) ham radio setup.

N6EF-Nice video, Shane. I have the DX Commander 10 meter mast for my homebrew end-fed half wave but looked at the Spiderbeam mast. To keep my mast bottom from moving around, I take a 2" PVC cap, drill a 3/8 " hole in it, turn the cap facing up to act as a cup, drive a 3/8" by 10/12" landscape spike (big nail) through the hole to secure it to the ground, then drop the mast into the cup. The mast bottom doesn't move.
That’s a good idea. I have a a hose clamp at the bottom as well that I put 4 tent stakes in.
Hi Shane,
it is a great mast. I've had two permanently installed out back for nearly three years and has survived 70 mph wind gusts with no guys. They are attached to 4X4 fence posts which are cemented in the ground. Spiderbeam makes an excellent clamp kit for their masts. I had one pole collapse a week after being put up before I used the clamp kit. Hasn't happened since. Stay safe. 73 WJ3U
Oh wow that’s awesome Don. I saw the clamp and and guy kit from them. The only time it’s worried me was before I put the bottom anchors on. The bottom wanted to kick out. Now that I’ve addressed that it’s rock solid.
New video - Who dis?
Spiderbeam with K8MRD mods? Very cool. Liking the carabiner zip-tied to the top section.
Yea it makes holding the wire super easy. It slides off and also lets the mast move without pulling the wire.
Hi Shane. Great video. I'm a big fan of Spiderbeam. Relatively new Ham. At my QTH I have three (2@40' and 1@60'). I purchased a plastic planter, filled it with two bags of quickset with a 3' PVC pipe in the middle. My 60' pole slips right in and it sits on my patio. Great counter-balance and I can move it around the yard. The other two pole hold the ends of my OCF. I drive a section of rebar in the ground and slip the 40 footers over that. I guy it all with 25lb mono and the whole set up works just great. I also use hose clamps for the bigger sections and electrical tape for the smaller ones. For portable I use the tire mount as do you. Good luck to you and looking forward to future videos. 73 John N6NRO
Thank you John, I’m a big fan of these. I didn’t think about the planter idea.
Excellent video. Nice camera work too. Really lets me see the setup nicely. 10/10!
LOVE the drone perspective - Great job Brother!
Thanks Don I appreciate it. Trying to change it up a little.
I got 3 of them and never regret the Buy. Perfect for one man army antenna setups out in the Fields. 73's
I’ll be buying another one very soon!
Nice video. I'm looking for a larger mast to keep in a vehicle. One of these just might be the thing I'm looking for.
Well depending on how much larger you need these do come in 60ft and 85ft versions as well.
In the sun I think the sections expand as my bottom section regularly collapse as it cools. I now use the reusable plastic tie straps (don’t need to be too tight) just above where the sections join. Same issue on my 10 meter Spiderbeam pole that I use out in the field (very compact version with more sections). Great pieces of kit and highly recommended.
Thankfully I haven’t had a collapse. I do have a roll of electrical tape to put around the joints if I do.
Nice job with this one, I’ve been looking at these for a while.
The mini version is do out this month. Still 32ft tall but collapses down to 28in.
@@K5QBF nice 👍
I like it!♡
I apreciate you showing us this mast :)
Been shopping around for something similar to this lately!
🤜🏻👍🤛🏻♡♡♡
I searched a ton before I settled on this one. I couldn’t find any new videos on it so I decided to make one myself. :) I like having the option of using any height up to the full 40ft.
Well done! I have one of those as well and it is great! Super sturdy and strong. I have broken a few of the smaller fiberglass fishing poles but can't see breaking this one at all. I saw that Spiderbeams is coming out with a more portable version - available in Europe now but in the US in a few months. Love the hat too - water of life, my friend - cheers! AI6OU
Yea I am really happy with this one. I looked at several, but wanted to option of using 20ft or going up to the full 40ft.😀
Very helpful, thanks for this!
I don’t know if anyone mentioned this but I have flag pole holder that slides into a 2inch trailer hitch. The first section of the Spiderbeam fits perfectly. VO1OK
I’m actually getting one for my truck!
Good review buddy. Defiantly have looked at those. Keep up on the videos.
Best pole on the market IMO, I have 2 of them and Will likely get another as a spare. I also use a 6m pole which is every bit as solid and less than a third of the price of the Spiderbeam.
Which 6m pole do you have? I’m really glad I went with this one, but I’d like to get a smaller one for Sota or hiking to a pota.
Good video. Gave me a better idea about the Spiderbeam mast. Pretty sure I will be getting one of these. Should work great for POTA (obviously does for you) and for my local mobile/portable ops.
Thanks!

I love it. I’ll be getting a second one when the mini gets here.
Great video! Have that mast and love it. Also using the SOTABEAMS 7000HDS and tactical mini. Was wondering, how are you attaching the top of the inverted L to the top of the mast?
If you go back to the close up at the beginning I have a carabiner that has two zip ties on it. It slides over the top and goes down about a quarter of the way down the top section. When I’m done it slips off the top.
@@K5QBF Gotcha, I rewatched it and see it now. Thanks! Looks like a great solution.
Good recommendation going up to the 8th section for more stability during windy days. Though just to confirm, is that the 8th section from the top or the 8th section from the bottom?
From the top.
Great vid, I'll definitely be checking these out! 73s
All in all you can’t go wrong. Especially with the ability to use as little or as much as you want.
Great video as always 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Clint!
Nice video, looking at the spiderbeam to use with a roll up ladder line type j pole on 2m/70cm.
Does it fit well in the drive on mount sleeve, or does it need clamping or shimming?
It fits pretty well. I put a couple socks on the bottom just to keep it from scratching. There’s a link to the mount in the description.
What's this channel name again?
That side of the creek?
You talked me into it. Ordered it Friday. Should be great for POTA. Well should be better than a WRC on top of my car 😁 Thanks for the nice video.
K0PIG
I think you’re going to like it. I have it setup in both my pota videos in a couple different configurations.
@@K5QBF I’ll likely be using it to set my 80-10 efhw to inverted V. Might be a little to heavy to run as a sloper. But I’m looking forward to it. You should get a commission 🤧
@@mark002228 Now that would be cool, I just like showing people things that really work for me. I have setup my 40-10 EFHW up as a sloper in pretty gusty winds with no issue. I think as long as you support the box it should hold the weight of the wire without issues.
Any recommendation for setting this poll up for a permanent instal?
I would buy the guy belt which will guy it at the 8th section in addition to where I guy it on the first section. They also make a clamp kit that will help keep the pole from collapsing.
