  • K8MRD gave me the idea, I just changed some of the hardware around. Yes, the audio is a little potato - this was made to send to a friend but figured some of my fellow hams out there could benefit from it as well. 73!
    The "Nite Ize" things in this video are the Nite Ize CamJams. I would recommend a small knot at the back of the cam after it's put up to keep the loose bit of cord from pulling perpendicular to the cam, as that's how it disengages.
    Also, my neighbors' dogs drive me nuts too...

    Hey buddy, FANTASTIC video and execution! I just bought my 12m a couple months ago and I’ve done POTAs where I had trees available, but I’m thinking about my parks that do not. This is an awesome proof of a way, and I thank ya! 🤜🤛

    That was excellent! I'm going to give that a try. One little suggestion -- attach the antenna wire before raising the mast .

    OK, I'm just back from trying this out. It is BRILLIANT! Very quick and easy for one person to put up the mast. I also have the Spiderbeams guy collar that goes on section 8 of the mast. It's quite easy to use your method to erect the mast to full height, slipping the collar and attached guys on as I raise it, then stake down the ropes that are attached to the collar once it is at full height. With the two sets of guys it should handle a lot of wind if needed.

    A little pull on the wire (when attached to the top of the mast) and the whole thing is going down with a big boom and broken parts of the mast. the bottom part must be anchored to the ground. been there....

    What if you used a second set of 3 guys stretching from the bottom of the mast along the ground out to those same three stakes? Could you use this arrangement in lieu of staking the bottom of the mast?

      Glad I could help! It's a great mast. I use it quite a bit and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

      My 12 mtr Spiderbeam has been up for 3 plus years. I have it strapped to a wooden fence pole using rubber straps with S hooks on the ends. It has never failed even through tropical storm winds. Really great product.

    Very nice, quick setup! For the guy ropes, you might want to us orange or reflective paracord to help people see them and avoid walking into them. Is the other antenna in the background also a Spiderbeam 12m?

      The one in the background is a dxcommander, but is a similar type of setup.

    I stake mine in the centre. It makes a difference for longer use, as the jubilee clip (what I call a hose clamp) is a fulcrum if you get too much torque from wind or imbalance. Nice method, gonna try it this way.

    • @MrDmonies327
      @MrDmonies327  Рік тому

      Yeah, I also call it a hose clamp but I use a dxcommander at home and for some reason Callum's reference to it as a jubilee clip stuck with me.
      I also recommend putting a stake or something for support in the middle during high wind or if it's going to be up for more than a few hours.

    Great, but at what stage do you attach the actual antenna to the mast? You must have to extend it [the pole] first, attach the antenna then lift it up and then secure the third guy and peg? Great idea but i fear something is missing.

    • @MrDmonies327
      @MrDmonies327  10 місяців тому

      Attach the antenna before extending the mast sections. I just didn't attach or run an antenna wire through it when doing the video. I have a small loop of Paracord and an s clip at the top of the mast. Attach antenna of choice at the 3:27 point in the video. This setup and a rollover mount have worked perfectly for many activations.

    Rather than staking the mast centrally and then having to strap it each time, if you added another jubilee clip to the bottom of the mast and another three guys from that to each stake you'd have it nailed. On a youtube video soon 😂 Thanks for the video. Shoot the dog.

      I believe I got these at home depot (or another home improvement store), but they can also be found on Amazon. They're called camjam if I remember correctly.
      EDIT: I used the plastic ones but the cams don't work quite as well now as they did when new, not sure if Paracord shrunk or cam locked up. They still work, just be mindful that the cam engaged and then tie the rope back around itself behind the cam to "lock" it (which you should do anyway). I may get the aluminum ones as an upgrade at some point as they seem more durable.

      @@MrDmonies327 just use a midshipman’s hitch and be done with cams all together.

    I used this technique for my Spiderbeam and it worked well. But your guys are set fairly low for a 12m mast, aren’t they?

      I've not had any problems in normal winds and short-ish activations. I have a sleeve that would let me attach a second set of guys higher up if the winds were really high, but I've never had the need for it.
