Historically, Buddhism was formed as a 'Protest" against corrupt Hindu priests etc.. Despite some differences, most of the fundamental teachings are the same and belong to Hinduism. So the credit for philosophical concepts like Moksha, reincarnation, The Supreme and the Atman etc obviously goes to The Hindus.but not the Buddhists. All one has to do is read the Vedas, Bhagwat Gita etc to arrive at this conclusion.
Another thing, The British, when in India could not appreciate these concepts. They simply rejected Indian religion as 'Pagan etc" being prejudiced by Christian concept of the one and only true God, Jesus Christ. Credit should be given to the Hare Krishna Movement under Acharya Bhaktivedanta Praphupada for making clear and raising appreciation of Hindu Philosophy to the Western world at the same time tolerating and respecting the Christian religion..
