LIVE: Brandon Morrissette sentenced after pleading guilty to charges he brought gun to West Geauga

  • More than a year after he was arrested on allegations he brought a gun to West Geauga High School with a plan to harm other students, Brandon Morrissette is back in court right now to face sentencing.
Judge Carolyn Paschke is presiding over the hearing at Geauga County Common Pleas Court.
It comes after Morrissette -- who was 18 at the time of his arrest -- entered a guilty plea back in March to charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone.
"He admitted to using prior calculation and design in developing a plan to cause harm to students at West Geauga High School on April 3," Chester Township Police Chief Craig Young said last year after Morrissette’s arrest. "He further acknowledged that the firearm seized by law enforcement on Monday was the weapon he intended to use to inflict that harm."
A fellow student, who was identified as Casey Orloski, was hailed as a hero after reporting he found a bullet in the bathroom.
"I was scared that someone was going to use that bullet during the school day, and that's why I went up to the school resource officer," Casey told 3News last year.

You are 100% right it's not acceptable to bring a gun in the school.., but in the same way it's not acceptable to send this young man for so many years in jail, for what!??, when real criminals get away with almost nothing, doing 100% worse crimes.

If he thinks the bullying in school was bad. Wait till he gets to state prison. They’ll take his shoes, commissary, and manhood. Ohio prisons are rough. He will wish for the school bullying days. The best approach would have been a letter to the Principal. Demanding a home school arrangement. Unless the principal could in fact guarantee no more bullying. There’s always other options. MMA training for example. If you inflict some pain ( not a shooting) on a bully. It generally stops. Sometimes it’s just a matter of getting in better shape. Getting stronger, more muscular, etc. So as not to present an easy target.

Funny a judge in Oklahoma did a drive-by on citizens and tried to kill a woman with his car. In front of multiple eyewitnesses. He wasn't even arrested until days later. He recently bonded out again after doing another drive-by, this time at his brother-in-law's home. No one was there except his nephew, who he shot at. They took forever to indict him for that, too. But this kid gets 8 years for bringing a gun?
YES, he should be held accountable, but 8 years in American prisons for kids (young adults are kids) with no direct focus on rehabilitation. Just penalty? Smh. That's what wrong with our country. What the hell does anyone think he's going to learn and become in and surviving 8 years of prison? What are any of them going to learn as kids? To SURVIVE. Whatever that takes and whoever they have to become. Or they'll fold and become something maybe worse. A victim. This isn't justice. Is sad and misguided. No matter who the kid is.
8 years is WAAAY to harsh. How about 6-12 months, then a rehabilitation/diversion program that they have to earn their way out of or stay their entire sentence? Not profitable enough, huh? Smh. America.

I sense genuine remorse. I suffer from depression and anxiety as well. Thankfully I think we have found the right medication and path to defeat the monster as I have felt better the last 6 months than I have the last 10 plus years. I had to swallow a lot of pride and admit I couldn't get thru this on my own. I finally let family and doctors help me. I feel this young man is begging for help and he's honest about it. I pray he gets the help he needs and has a fruitful life.

13:22 He claims that he had no intention of causing harm to anyone else, and he only wanted to harm himself. This statement from him is obviously not true, because of the fact that he was carrying 3 fully loaded magazines of ammunition with him. Also the fact that he pleaded guilty to the charge of attemped murder. I believe that he most likely had every intention of killing as many people as he could on that day.

Do we need to state the obvious? If you're going to take yourself out and yourself alone, you don't go to school or anywhere, for that matter, to do it. Matter of fact, most people who are legitimately thinking of self harm, seem like the happiest people ever and give absolutely no forewarning or clues, which is ultimately why people are so devastated after someone does that to themselves. This kid merely had hurt feelings lol. Everyone has experienced being hurt and or, bullied at some point throughout their lives. He needs to learn to let it roll off and deal. It's apart of life. If you can't do that, you're either gonna have a very long life, or a very short one depending on a few things 😂

This is sad. He definitely needs mental help/ rehabilitation for sure. What ABSOLUTELY SICKENS ME IS THAT CHILD PREDATORS ROAM FREE GET SO MANY CHANCES THEY GET CHANCES TO GET HELP BUT YET THIS YOUNG MAN GETS THROWN AWAY!!! YES HE SHOULD NEVER BROUGHT A GUN!! HE WAS WRONG!!! NOT ALL WHO ARE ABUSED CAN JUST KEEP WALKING AWAY!!! I will continue to pray for him and his family. His father is even begging for help for him. This young man is hurting! People that have mental illness are being tortured in their minds every single day. It's hard to ask for help. I bet that Judge who did the drive by gets away with it. 8 years to long in prison. He needed to be sent to a mental institution FOR HELP! PRISON IS GOING TO MAKE HIM WORSE!! THIS WAS HIS WAY OF REACHING OUT FOR HELP! NOT THE RIGHT WY TO DO IT BUT HE WAS NEEDING HELP!!!

he needs full prison time, can't make exception just for him, also others will take advantage of it. he can get the mental help after prison. also he knew what he was doing, he could at any time called the cops are report his thoughts, plan and actions.

8-12 years in prison for taking a gun in to school?! Literally just for taking it in, not brandishing it, threatening anyone with it or anything of that nature. This is the problem with the criminal justice system in this country, this kid got more time than actual criminals with multiple convictions get for armed robberies.

White privilege is reflected in the type of prison time the defendant was sentenced to serve , what he did was premeditated and he used all of his free will knowingly that what he was going to do and did it regardless of the consequences .
