- We have arrived in the capital of The Philippines, Manila. As soon as we step out of our apartment in Makati, we are overloaded by Christmas decorations, holiday cheer, and the kindest people wishing us “happy holidays & a warm welcome to the Philippines”! We start with a delicious coffee in one of the quirky cafes in this area of Metro Manila, followed by a street food weekend market where we try some Filipino snacks! You can’t have the first day exploring a new country without some sightseeing… followed by the complete polar opposite: the biggest shopping mall in the Philippines! We tried our very first Filipino dessert, and it did not disappoint! With Christmas decorations EVERYWHERE, we feel right at home! We made the right decision to come to Manila, the Philippines, for Christmas!

Glad you are enjoying Manila. Philippines at Christmas is magical. In 1993 we visited a wonderful resort in Cebu in December - it had a fantastically beautiful beach in its grounds. Unfortunately on Boxing Day the area was hit by a very strong cyclone which decimated the hotel and the Beach. We had four days living in a disaster area…. Despite this we still love the Philippines and its brilliant people. Enjoy…❤

This is why I love .... yes I said LOVE! .... .... Seeing, hearing and watching foreigners go around my country. It's not about getting that confirmation about how beautiful, rich, and full of good things this country has. But more of seeing things from a fresh perspective. You guys went and lived in Makati, that's where I graduated college and worked for more than ten years. Then went to Intramuros, where I spent most of my very young years and even worked as well during President Estrada's term. And lastly Mall of Asia, well I wouldn't be a Filipino if I did not know where that is. The thing is seeing those places through your experience is like going there for the first time ever again. Hehehe. ... ... ... Oh while in Intramuros, you missed Luneta park, that's where our premier museums are found, if you're into anthropology and history, try passing by once again. ... ... As I said earlier, from the GrandStand to Colegio de Sta. Ysabelle that was my turf when I was a wee bit of a kid.

I'm so glad you guys feel right at home there. The vibe is happy, the people are lovely, and the food is amazing. For desserts, I recommend you try *Taho* which is caramelised tofu that people usually get for breakfast; *Turon* which is sweet banana wrapped in spring roll that people usually eat in the afternoon for a small snack; *Bibingka* which is coconut cake that people usually eat at night. All these 3 things are usually considered 'street food', so you can probably just ask people in the street if there's anyone selling them nearby.
Other honourable mentions are *Champorado* which is chocolate rice that people like to eat when it's a cold or rainy day; *Cheese & Ube Icecream* which was that purple thing you saw on the Halo-Halo; and my personal favourite, *Green Mango Shake* which is a must try, especially if you guys are going to the beach islands like Boracay or Palawan, though it's available in pretty much most restaurants and hotels in Manila. You can probably just ask for it via your room service. You have to at least try it before leaving the Philippines. I ordered that daily!🤣

if you like desserts I''ll recommend you to try "Ube" (purple yam), bananacue (banana on sticks), turon (banana rolls) and "biko & suman" (sticky rice). Also its perfect time for you since we have a traditional desserts on holidays. we call it "Bibingka" and also "Putobumbong", you guys should definitely try that too.

A new thing in Manila are drag brunches as well. There's a few now happening all over Manila, but the popular ones are in the northern part of Manila, in Quezon City. Baksilog in Tipsy Pig or Meriendrag in Butterboy.

Thanks for feeling at home in the country I was originally from. Philippine Christmas Season starts when the “Ber” months starts so 1st day of September is when it really starts. Usually end by January, on the Feast of the Three Kings. You are right, IKEA in the Philippines is the biggest in the world and this is official. B😊y the way, the size of Metro Manila is 620 square kilometers.
