    Wife: How long will it take?
    Me: About half hour to 45 minutes.
    Kid: I'll help you, dad.
    Me (to wife): Make that 3 and half hours.

    I bought this same workbench at HF 2 years ago and I've used it pretty hard at times. I even mounted a bench vise on it. The only thing I didn't like about assembling this bench is that about 10 of the screws in the pack came with no threads on them. Still I can't complain because I got this bench for $68.00 because the box was severely damaged. The store manager said he'd discount it more if I took the damaged one, so I did. All the parts were fine. Thank you to the nice Mr. harbor freight manager man!

    Very nice! A UPS system might help for a backup power supply for the workbench, but not required, only recommended. Plus an extension cord to hook up to vehicle inverter as another backup power supply which would be more reliable. Very nice workbench. Job well done.

    Got it for a birthday present a few years ago and the only complaint I've had with it were the piddly little screws that came with the lighting mount hooks. They were so short that they didn't reach through the mounts to the underside of the wood. I had to use some other screws (which poked out the top of the unit) to attach them. Dremeled them down where they poked out and black Sharpie'd over the exposed wood.
    Added two of those Harbor Freight 18" magnetic strips (back when they were free with a coupon) along the length of the pegboard and it's been a wonderful little workspace ever since. =)

    I’d tighten that puppy up with a nice 3/4” plywood deck so the first time you whack something in that small vise you mount on it, it all wont end up on the bottom shelf. 🤪 I always re-support the less than sturdy “economy” item shelf supports too even if it’s a 2x2 just to add strength so in five years it only looks used, not like it’s just taking up space as a cheap bent trampoline... Give it a realistic workout n let us know how it handles being “bear handled” over time 😉 Thanks for sharing, good luck with it Red and shine on!

    Just a hint... for foil reflector.. crinkle it up first, and then stretch it out... and use 3m77 spray adhesive to glue it down. Looks like a darn decent bench for the low going in price, Thanks for letting us know!👍🙋

    I was thinking about how you could replace the uprights with better angle iron but realized that at that point you might as well just download the assembly instructions and make your own beefier one with similar dimensions. Maybe a little more time drilling, unless you want to weld it.

      Chris Warfield ...I guess that’s the price you pay for low cost at the register. The smaller they can make the box the more units they can pack into the shipping container coming from China. High shipping volume and warehousing space for the retailer being just two factors in being able to offer a low retail price.

    I just picked one of these up on a coupon for 79 bucks. Also got a few of those 19 dollar LED fixtures so one is going over the bench and I am tossing that cheesy light. Also have a sheet of half inch plywood and I am going to cut it to fit the top and the lower shelf and bond with construction adhesive and some wood screws. I will also fasten it to the studs on the garage wall and it's going to be a rock. I need an actual bench that doesn't have 5 reloading presses on it or a vice and a grinder. I need a flat virgin surface!!

    Hey there. You mentioned that the one in the store didn't seem to be sturdy. The reason is that there are a lot people touching and shaking and running into and climbing under and over them EVERY SINGLE DAY. All the displays in the store are really handled a lot. Having said that....I have seen stores super glue nuts and bolts and attachments in place to help with wear and tear, and in some instances thief of smaller display pieces. Old displays usually are replaced yearly.

    So, I don't have a garage, and want to get this, but the trouble is, I have such limited space that it will have to actually go either in my room or my living room.
    As a result, I think I will want to repaint the metal before assembly a different color so that it will, well, not look like it belongs in the garage I don't have.
    Any tips on repainting the steel? Not settled on a color yet, but I know it will be a much lighter color than the black it comes with.

    • @denoftools
      @denoftools  4 роки тому

      It all comes down to prep. The more prep work you do, the better it will look. If you paint over it, it will look like you painted over it. Sand to bear metal and it will look much better.

I hope I can drill a hole in the bottom of each of the leg's so I can screw it to the floor in my trailer to hold it in place. I think for $78.00 it will work good for what I need it to do🤞🏻 I also ordered the Pancake Air Compressor @ $39.99 also. I ordered that Staple Gun too @$15.99 it was supposed to be. But, they charged me $22.99.....I don't understand that at all? I e-mailed them on that, maybe Monday I'll hear something back??????

    Just got one yesterday for $80 ... like has been mentioned don't go by the store display, it's a solid unit when assembled correctly. You'd better use a cordless gun to tighten the hardware during assembly as there's well over 100 machine screws/nuts that hold this thing together or you'll end up with carpal tunnel. I'm gonna have to try that reflective hack to get the light brighter ... I have access to a sheet of acrylic safety safety mirror, should be a bit better than foil.

    • @denoftools
      @denoftools  5 років тому +1

      OH, I came up with a better hack. HF sells a LED shop light that is on sale right now for $20. I was pretty skeptical of this as I have seen a lot of underpowered led shop lights. This thing is the real deal! And it just barely fits in the top of this bench. I'm going to use the other light for some other under cabinet lighting. And yes, it is a tricky install but so worth it.

Imagine the price of having a Master carpenter build you a work bench? Of course, it'll last @ least 200 yrs. Better have 200 yrs. of boys in the family or a few generations of Tom Boy's tossed in. I've been looking bought HFT benches for a while. I priced the parts needed to DIY and not only is it more expensive but more time consuming. Time being money it's an awesome deal. I just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

      They must-have been pretty cheap at your last job. These are really only meant for home garage hobby type work. Every place I've worked at had commercial/industrial work benches like Lyon. You can find them in mechanic shops to manufacturing facilities. And you can pick one up for cheap instead of this. I bought my Lyon work bench for $50 already assembled and will last dam near forever

      Can you get 2x4’s and plywood for $0? Cause, I always can make a better custom work bench than I can buy.
      You know, come to think about it, I would probably use a $10. Box of 10 cent nails building it
      Also, today, I paid $2. For a soda pop at the market. Stuff is getting expensive brother.
      Can you really buy the lumber and build it cheaper?

    • @Daniel-vq9zb
      @Daniel-vq9zb 5 років тому

      @@patrickfansler6844 2x4s are a little under 3 bucks a a peice, I'd use them for the table top as well sense it would be thicker and cheaper. Same size bench with nails or screws could defiantly be built for under 79 bucks
