I'd be lying if I said I didn't like this version better.
Valid opinion. I prefer The Smile version because it's more melancholy, also Jonny's guitar solo near the end of the song in The Smile version is sublime. I first heard The Smile version in a livestream (I think from London?) during the pandemic and the live version of that solo was amazing.
Gonna have to disagree there. The new Smile version has been my favorite Thom song for quite some time now, I feel like I just melt and sway into the music. the live version especially, so soulful. Jonny's guitar is some of his best ever. This version is just meh. It lacks a lot and the 4/4 time feels too rigid for the melody
This version is definitely catchier. I like the chorus here a lot more but the instrumenation of the outro more on The Smile version.
