- Part of the California Confidential series, this documentary takes a peek at the decadent yet boldly creative scene at Venice Beach, California during the 80's where director Jeff Jackson immersed himself in his early years as an artist and filmmaker.
Some of the street performers candidly captured in the complete film, such as Ted Hawkins, went on to gain international recognition.
Check out some of the vibrant personalities, freakish talents, and hot bodies that made Venice Beach such a diverse panorama of experience.

Harry the roller-blading guitar player is a VB icon.
Of course, and just to clarify for anyone who isn't in the know, the guitarist featured in this clip is NOT Ted Hawkins. We will upload another clip at some point which shows Ted Hawkins doing his think at Venice Beach.
The chainsaw juggler featured in this documentary is the one and only Robert Gruenberg. Their have been many cheap imatators such as chad taylor,etc,etc but no one will ever match the genius of Robert not to mention his 45 minute stand up comedy show was way ahead of its time. Mr. Gruenberg is now an artist and a professional poker player in Las Vegas.

It was early 1980.
I walked up to Mr Gruenberg's performance. He was juggling chainsaw over a boy. With my tidied shirt, he said he hasn't seen me since the 60s. I wanted to say... I'm back for the 80s...But was afraid, if I was too funny, he might drop the chainsaw. I'm proud to say that in showing restraint, I didn't make the cut.
Even if I were funny...he's so focus that he can't be jolted.
which leads me to wonder....How can he do this for years? Aren't there off days or a perfect storm of distractions that could undercut the most skilled and confidence?
