I'm 52 and I jamjamjam out to this stuff. No substitute for the brothers and their bass. It lives on.
I live in Tulsa - Greenwood Archer Pine area is my old hood and my late grandfather was a trumpet player in the original gap band..
Sadly, I never heard their music cuz I'm stuck on these guys!

Lot of people don't know this but, The Gap brothers were really talented and it was a pleasure working with them and seeing it all unfold.
Charlie would do all his vocals in one take, unbelievably talented!
I laid all of the ground tracks on this one at Capitol Records studio in Hollywood back in 1983.
I remember this session like yesterday.

OMG, the fashions, the music, the quality of manufactured goods, the purchasing power of a dollar, the coke without any fentanyl in it.. and you get to check out from natural causes well before the world is destroyed from climate change. I'm 77+, & I used to work at a club called "Dance Your Ass Off" in downtown San Diego...there was NO getting service from the wait/management staff when this jam came on. We might've had a couple dozen folks working, but they'd all throw down what they were busy with & invade the postage-stamp-sized dance floor en masse(pardon my inability to effectively use the hybrid Swedish/Japanese/Martian dialective conglomeration in which my pet rats were raised back in the day-) with manic enthusiasm.
      It could get awkward.
It could become most definitely painful.
Some of us would fall down, repeatedly, but nobody seemed to mind. Many billion yrs later(+ -👀), those memories help to keep this old shaky-booty-being being one.
Thank you, Lord, thank you, dear Gap Band, & thank you to my{alleged} brain!!!

Sadly I don't think folks are capable of going backward...I mean ...[generalizing here] you wish for a return to those times which were mostly giant cellphone free, no one had a computer. We'd get our news from tv/radio, newspapers and magazines. Guys would actually have to wander out of their parents basements to find the young lady he was interested in to talk/hang out and go to her parents house to ask for a date. How on earth would we even be able to go back to all that without some messed up scenario? LOL.

      @Apple Let's just say late 40's
      I was a breakdancer in 1983-85
I was one of the 'cool kids' in my junior high
BUT I was treated like a total loser in early high school, when breakdancing went 'out of style' after 1984.
I stuck with it because I was hitting my teenage strength and was getting better and started to be able to get the harder gymnastic moves like windmills.
      So, I gave it up.
In a way, it's too bad - about 10 years ago, I was in Hollywood and I saw the new generations of Breakers and they were FANTASTIC.
They were doing moves that I could only visualize in my imagination.

I miss the 80's, in this video... Black, White, Asian, Latino, Indian, Hindu, Jewish, Middle Eastern...WE were all getting down. A fun time to meet friends and an economy with PLENTY of jobs and low gas prices.

No time to hate when you're partying.
Just having fun together regardless of race or religion, the best time.
      We need this today.
