Meredith MacRae...so lovely, so sweet, so wonderful and so dearly missed

That was so cute, they all were so sweet. I wish people respected our elders like we use to. So many like to dictate to them yet, never visit. Its truly sad in this age of fake social media, just how desperately lonely so many people truly are.....

Meredith's character, Ruth, was kind, caring and respectful of her granny. People, nowadays, don't have any basic manners or common decency especially toward their elders. Things have changed in the last 50 - 60 years and not for the better.

I recall the Friday night lineup on ABC in 1972 clearly still; that night was special since there was no school the following day, I was already often babysitting on the weekends, and therefore could stay up late. First off, there was The Brady Bunch, followed by The Partridge Family, The Odd Couple, Room 222, and last but certainly not least: Love American Style in the time slot between 10 pm and the news at eleven. Wow, what terrific memories. Anybody have the keys to a time machine, with a dial spun back to this fabulous time for many of us growing up?

i love these shows from this time ara its so heart felt and real to life, The shows today are not really like that.

The shows today are not like that at all. Come to think of it, they're not even shows the way I was brought up to think of entertainment. They are merely exploitative garbage filled with filth meant to shock and/or titillate. Nothing clever, grand, witty or eloquent. All the class is a thing of the past. Just stupidity, violence, degradation, and smut. And that's if you can get beyond the commercials. One we had three networks in ferocious competition. Now there are hundreds of channels and no programming worth viewing. If this is progress, I'll pass. It's why I turn to UA-cam and uploads like these.

I got married cause I thought it was the right thing. Morals are truly paradoxical. When opportunities, medical care, finances, all of family, and my attorney all said 'get a divorce' ? I was so very confused.

The rules were changed in the middle of for some, for convenience but not the benefit of women.
      Or men!
Marriage was meant for children and the mother and father to be loving partners in raising their children, with benefits for all in the family.
Not to divide the mother and father and children and profit from the obstacles to their loving and being loved within a marriage in the sight of God and man.
      Clear instructions were given.
      Some still follow Him.

Meredith could've guest-starred on The Brady Bunch, back then, likely as Marcia Brady's cheerleading coach- speaking of Marcia, both Meredith and Maureen McCormick appeared on All-Star Family Feud, back in 1983!!!

May 30, 2015 - Happy Birthday to Meredith MacRae! With her beauty, talent, and the warmest of personalalities on screen, she certainly could have furthered her own Hollywood career. But instead it seems she chose to care more about helping others through all kinds of charity work (see MeredithMacRae.com) and raise her family. She left us way too soon (May 30, 1944 - July 14, 2000). To see a bit of her singing talent, check out my favorite, her single "Goodbye Love" posted on youtube. Also check "Whispering Hope" duet with her dad Gordon MacRae which is absolutely beautiful and flawless and shows how deep her singing talent really was.

This Social Security plot point was pretty popular on television at the time..I saw it on Good Times recently..

it also appeared in.a 1974 "All in the Family" episode, coincidently also starring Ruth McDevitt where she an Burt Mustin played elderly acquaintances of Archie and Edith who shack up because if they married their Social Security would be cut.

Not a good ending. Ruth's first instincts were right and grandma lied to her and called her a sucker when she believed the lie. Granny doesn't deserve the respect Ruth gave her.

If you try to find happiness through other people's approval you will lead a sad, lonely life.Granny lied to put Ruth's mind at ease. That was noble.

I agree Ruth's first instincts were good.

    • @RedNekLvr22

@a1orski I agree. This was still 1970, an era where living together wasn't really accepted by a lot of people yet.
I'm never a fan of lying, but I do get why the grandmother lied to Ruth. Clearly, from Ruth's reaction, one can understand why she wasn't wild about telling her, but that's a lie you just can't get by with. Someone's going to find out the truth.
It's none of Ruth's business, and, frankly, Ruth overreacted quite a bit.
