You asked a question: why is it needed? you don't need to do it to survive. Well for one it isn't needed. However it is completely nice to have alternatives. Instead of just one tech path to go down, multiple alternate viable ones are nice to have. The Sea still needs more content, however if you want to do a sea-only playthrough, it's getting there.
That would be pretty cool! I like the idea of the weregoose having to drop a fish off on a boat/land before being able to catch another, due to lack of inventory access, and to balance it a little
@@three_crows_all_day I like that idea. My add on to that idea. Big fish in deep water slow the goose down by 10%. This add on would make fishing for specific fish a little easier.
You know that's not a bad idea. As a wurt main i know how much fish helps me with sanity i also wish klei could make the fish u catch from the ocean give more sanity to wurt as they are harder to catch and are cute so wurt would be happier so more sanity regen.
This update feels like it was more catered towards people like me, who get hopelessly lost at sea looking for the lunar island. I know about the jagged edge/straight line coasts pointing towards the island, but in all honesty it's never really worked for me. The infinite vegetable/rock resources is definitely worth suffering at sea, though.
I just learned something a few seconds ago: there is a fishing net in the beta. You can use it to get things from the water like items and living things on the water, like puffins. you cannot craft it yet, but you can use the debug console or "Too Many Items" (in the 'Others' section) to get it.
This is pretty good ground work for expanding the sea in dst. Obviously there needs to be a "fish collector" mob in the game somewhere, similar to the pig king but he takes fish and offers different rewards for different fish.
as for what the point is, the don't starve together team wants to add variety in what you can do to survive, not necessarily what you need to do to survive. I love that this gives us the option to save fish for winter as they can be a great healing item. And also it gives us more things to do in general.
I mean yeah, that's a given. This was not the true question being asked but we'll discuss it soon enough but I must ask anyways, you truly going to choose all this over all the other mechanics and methods of survival? Like, ever beyond a week of it being new?
I’d have to disagree not trying to start an argument here but there are just more things to sailing to dst that it makes it feel like I’m sailing and not walking on water but I respect your opinion
Some kind of a plastic tub with water to keep the fish in would be cool. Then you can have a little salt water fish tank for food that does not spoil. They can even add the feature than that you have to feed them with fish food if you want to keep them for extreme long periods of time
That narwal horn will help set up kelp farms. idk if there is another easy way to do it, I felt like it was pretty difficult getting a good amount clustered near the shore easily.
Ok I don't know if you gonna see this but you can also catch fish with rot. My friend did it yesterday and was kinda surprised by that. The next thing is that the skitter squid can also take the fish out of the tin fishing bin. It only happened once but it happened to us.
They should really add sea storms in dst. And a few islands with treasures on them or something. Especially the storm thingy would awesome... trying to navigate around those massive waves and typhoons and stuff. A pirates update would be kinda cool too. Idk I guess I feel like they are not exploiting the full potential of the sea biome.
For what it looks like (on what you've shown, because I also didn't know about this update xD) this so far looks more like a quality of life update. Adding stuff to give everyone other options for their playstyle. It looks pretty cool, but I'm pretty sure more stuff will come that would make more sense of things. Also, regarding the normal fishes you complain because they didn't stack. It looked like they were still alive, and you had the option to "murder" them. Maybe doing so will change them to the usual fish you had, and that way they will stack, maybe. I don't play beta so I can't test :0 Also, to me it makes sense that you can't place *fresh* water fishes on the Tin Fishin' Bin because that looks like a normal net that carries fishes under a boat (The crafting also makes sense if you think of it that way). And well, you can't place fresh water fishes on salt water. Good stuff! Thanks to you I now know about this. :0
Murdering them won't give you the old fish back, it will give you a new fish morsel instead. So unfortunately for now the fish is a bit cumbersome for crafting, but i'm sure they'll change that
I've checked, they've changed it now, he spoons now are the only way to catch bigger fish. Now I know what you're thinking, how do I get a spoiled fish for the reciptacle then?" you have to fish up an eel first. But yeah, berries and twigs only work on small fish.

I would LOVE to see the sea hounds return. And an idea for another creature. Moon jellies. They spawn on full moons and new moons. On a new moon they migrate to normal islands. And on full moons they migrate to the lunar island. Killing them gives you a dead moon jelly and 50% chance a moon rock or moon glass. Eating a moon jelly would let you glow like eating a rainbow jellyfish. Maybe a new boat type would be nice? Have single seated boats that are like row boats of sw the boat we know in dst is a fishing platform?

Think you might not fully understand the fishing mechanics. You can still reel a struggling fish in somewhat, just stop when your character holds it overhead. I've never spent 2 minutes on a large fish. In any case, I do agree that these fishing mechanics are quite tedious. Having to carry three different mushroom lures (if they implement them more firmly) and go that far out on sea to even catch any of the worthwhile fishes when freshwater fish are a piece of cake? Just for lobster dinner? I'm sure this is subject to change.
That's a good idea tbh and would be a good use of glass nd maybe planks, I don't think it'll happen tho but itsa possibility coz they added scales nd stuff

I have finished washing my soaps and I am currently heating a gelatinous meat cube and while doing my evening tasks I asked myself
What are the porpoise of the paths and brick roads
Think you might not fully understand the fishing mechanics. You can still reel a struggling fish in somewhat, just stop when your character holds it overhead. I've never spent 2 minutes on a large fish.
In any case, I do agree that these fishing mechanics are quite tedious. Having to carry three different mushroom lures (if they implement them more firmly) and go that far out on sea to even catch any of the worthwhile fishes when freshwater fish are a piece of cake? Just for lobster dinner? I'm sure this is subject to change.
It's only been the mudfish that have given me the most trouble for whatever reason, everything else has been caught rather easily.
Man, that freshwater fish change is gonna be really annoying, I hope they change that in some way
I kinda like it cause i want to make my own fish pound XD

so did you choose not to do the gengerbread pig thing or did you not come across it or was it not in the game when you recorded
Ashmodei Wall not in the game yet
I want like a "Get Out of the Water!" update where they add sharks....... also I still want them to change the water... 😔
Maybe they should change all recipes that use fish to using fish morsels
Is nobody gonna mention how one of those lures look like a buttplug
ITS OUT NOW
Will we get aquariums to farm fish from comfort of base i wonder
That's a good idea tbh and would be a good use of glass nd maybe planks, I don't think it'll happen tho but itsa possibility coz they added scales nd stuff
