How to book a verifiable flight ticket for Visa Applications

- This video offers you three options on how to book your flight reservation and/or flight itinerary for your visa application requirement whether it be for a Schengen Visa, a UK Visitor Visa, or a Japan Visa.
There are other options available for reserving a flight ticket but I have only listed the ones that have worked for me in my visa applications.
Option 1: Save or Hold the Price - you'll pay 10-35 USD depending on the airline and length of the reservation
Option 2: Pay at a Local Office, Bank, or via Western Union - this is a FREE Reservation which usually lasts for 24-48 hours. This is available for Emirates, KLM and AirFrance in select countries and destinations
Option 3: Screengrab the flight details - another FREE option but will not work for all Schengen countries.
The first two options are verifiable and would give you are personal reference number (PRN) that is needed in most visa applications.

The UK visa application does not really require a flight reservation. It's the Schengen visa application that requires one.
My guess is embassies require a reservation to gauge how much your would be flights are and what might your flight route be. Then check both against your financial capacity and your itinerary.

I always go with Option 2. I've used that for my last 3 visa applications. All via the Swiss Embassy.

Hi Ms Raine, For option 3, is there a chance of rejection if this option is chosen? If I understand correctly, this option just entails mentioning the flight number and the name of the airlines I'm planning to use.
There's a chance of rejection if you submit a flight itinerary, but the required one in the checklist is a flight reservation.
Do go over the checklist to be sure that what you need is a travel itinerary before proceeding with option 3

I think 24 hrs is a bit tight. Check if other Canadian carriers have longer free cancellations

Depends where you'll submit your application. If applying in the Philippines, I know Germany allows the screenshot of flights as they only need a flight itinerary and not a flight reservation.

Check with Emirates, and choose full-payment and select Pay at Western Union. This free reservation will only be valid for 24 hours though.

Option 2 would be the best choice. If you have a printer at home, you can reserve your flight on the same day as your appointment.
What happens if you book the flight and they tell you purchase within 48 hrs wont the embassy deny your visa application,since you just using for visa application?
What do you mean by "won't the embassy cancel"?
Your flight reservation will be automatically cancelled after 48 hours if you don't pay for the whole flight. And in my applications, that's fine (I've had a total of 4 Schengen Visas).

The airline will only hold the fare for the stated number of hours. You won't be charged the full amount. The airline will send you a notification that the hold the fare reservation is ending and if you'd like to proceed with the booking to pay for the full fare. If you don't pay for the full amount, the airline won't charge your card.

Go over the checklist for your country and purpose as there's a slight difference for each country/embassy

Thanks a lot, could you make a video of any company that sells onward tickets? I think they all are a scam (I got scammed) but it would be great if some one made a video of a legit one confirming if the reservation number they provide is real :)
I usually don't use companies that sell onward tickets; I directly book with the airline or use their reservation services. I'll research onward tickets companies and let you know if I find one that's legit.
Typically, if a company gives you a reservation number and you can confirm this with the airline website, that means the have legitimately reserved you a flight.

I have few doubts if you can help please..
My brother in law is in Germany and we (me, wife, daughter, father in law and mother in law) five of us are planning to visit him in August this year for which we'll be applying Schengen visitor Visa with German embassy through VFS Global.
My doubts here are..
1. From where (online) can I reserve flight ticket.
2. How can I reserve flight ticket for about 15-20 days since I have heard that nowadays flight ticket is reserved for just 24-48-72 hours.
3. Since we are going through visitor visa to family, in what format an invitation letter is required from my brother in law for inviting us all there for about 2 weeks trip.

Where are you applying from so I could check the correct document requirements?
1 & 2. Since you'd like a longer flight reservation, I'm afraid the options I have given won't work. Those options are only good for 1-7 days. You'll have to use the services of a flight reservation company if it's longer reservations.
3. You can send me an email at rainegoesaway@gmail.com and I'll send you a copy of invitation letter template.
Also, as you'll be applying in Germany, your brother has to send you the Verpflichtungserklärung or formal obligation which he has to obtain from his municipality.

Yes, after 48-72 hrs the ticket won't be verifiable.
That has never been an issue for me and I've used the describe methods in the video for my last 3 Schengen Visa applications

Nope, the embassies only need a reservation. If the reservation has lapsed during the processing period, it's understandable as each airline can only hold bookings for certain periods.
Hi,I am going to travel to Korea. When I go to get my visa, I have to submit flight reservation to embassy. Visa processing period is 7 days. If I make a reservation in this way, the reservation will be canceled within 72 hours. Is there any problem when applying for a visa even if it is canceled after 72 hours?
So far I haven't experienced any problems using the methods I've explained when applying for visas even when the reservation is only valid for 48-72 hours
For longer reservations and if in doubt, you'll have to book with accredited travel agencies or with the airline itself (from 10-50 USD)

Oh, I never knew about the hold ticket option. The Swiss visa states "confirmed reservation with booking reference number" -meaning, we have to buy an actual ticket -hopefully that has a refundable option? And, it also states for hotels "confirmed with applicant's names as a guest" or "package tour confirmation by travel agent including receipt confirming payment". Its difficult to find some B&B that gives you full refund😅
The hold ticket option will give you a verifiable reference number
As for the accommodations, I've only ever used booking(.)com, as there are various options including pay at the property and they do have confirmation numbers that embassies can check

Hi! I haven't tried using other websites aside from the official airline websites for my flight reservations. If it's 15-20 USD, I think it's better to use the airline websites as the paid reservations are of the same amount.

If option 3, the embassy won't be able to verify it since you're merely submitting screenshots of the flight.
If concerned la with verification, go with either option 1 or 2. Both are verifiable and would last from 48-72 hours.

For Germany, yes. But do check first if you only need a flight itinerary and not a flight reservation

The reservation I described in the video will be automatically cancelled after the 48 or 72 hour period.

If the reservation needs to be active for more than 72 hours, then I would suggest to purchase a reservation from a reputable travel agent.

Better to get the reservation either on the day of your appointment or a day before your appointment. I never had a problem with option 2 for my visa application kahit pa tumagal yung application for more than 3 days.

Better to have a paid, refundable ticket instead of just a reservation. Some immigration authorities look for an e-ticket number which can only be found on paid flights

None of these three options are good enough.
Hold the price only works for 2 to 7 days and a visa application can take 45 days.
Pay at local office still requires the option of canceling.
... and a flight itinerary has a high chance of being rejected by the bureaucrats. I already tried that and it did not work.

These options have worked for all my Schengen Visa applications, never had any problem with them. Where are you applying from?
Also, for the flight itinerary as I have iterated, you'll have to check the specific embassy requirement.
You can always choose to pay travel agencies for lengthier reservations.

The specific embassy requirements are often unclear. The difference in between requirements and the stories I hear from people that have successfully applied for a visa are too big to comfortably know what you have to do.
VFS global is f@cking things up quite badly in my opinion. It is NOT clear and the process is forcing me to buy an expensive flight ticket without knowing if the visa gets approved. NOT good.
That is also why there are so many questions following up on this video. It just does not really work in the potentially troublesome cases. Your goal is to make a clarifying video right? Than why are there so many questions following it up?

1. Schengen visas are often rejected for people with no money
AFAIK, there are 5 countries in the Schengen Zone that requires the applicant to have their own financial means even for sponsored travels: Denmark, Finland, Italy (minimal), Greece (minimal), and France (minimal).
3/4 of my Schengen Visas were sponsored and I did not have millions in my account. I've also encountered sponsored visa applicants with less than 50,000 PHP in their account and got approved. In which country will your girlfriend submit her application? She'll need to focus on her home ties instead of financial account IF she won't be applying in the 5 countries I've mentioned.
2. The specific embassy requirements are unclear.
I think they're as clear as can be. Each country has a checklist. Which parts are unclear? You and your girlfriend can join multiple Schengen Visa groups on Facebook and ask clarifying questions.
Some people overdo their application and submit unnecessary documents, and that's where the confusion arises for other applicants🙃
3. VFS is f-d up.
To this, I would agree 😂
Their lines are long, there's not enough seats to accommodate applicants with scheduled appointments, and their website is frequently down.
BUT they don't require a fully-paid flight ticket, they have NO authority to do so. The embassies only require a reservation or a travel itinerary, NOT a paid ticket (unless applying from the UK). You can directly contact the embassy to clarify this. Have you tried using the options I've given and your girlfriend's visa application was rejected?
These options I've presented are available for people to try out, it's for free. Again, if you're in doubt you have the option of purchasing from a travel agent
4. There are so many questions following up this video
What are the exact questions? about validity? acceptability?
I've encountered first time applicants and travelers use the options I've enumerated and they didn't have any problems even when their applications took more than a week to process.
In my case, Switzerland is strict when it comes to ticket reservations and travel insurance, all 4 of my Schengen visas were processed within a week so that's beyond the free flight reservation option. The embassy once contacted me to ask about my inter-schengen travel plans as I didn't have any transportation reservations for travel outside Switzerland BUT they've never questioned the flight reservation. They've also asked me to change insurance providers when the insurance I submitted was still renewing their Schengen compliance.
Overall, I think you're venting your frustrations on the documentary requirements, the lengthy process obtaining them, and the overwhelming information available, not just the free flight reservation in the video. You can ask your girlfriend to send me a message if she'd like to connect.

The only ones I've tried where there's free reservation are from KLM, Emirates, and AirFrance. For other airlines they have paid reservation already.

If may printer ka sa bahay, you can book the free reservation on the day of the appointment itself or a day before since it's valid for 2-3 days.
If yung paid reservation naman, a day before your appointment would do.

@chamzeegal I've never had a problem with Option 2 as I've used it 3 out of 4 Schengen Visa application. I've tried Option 1 as well.
Also, VFS does not verify any documents, they only accept your submission on behalf of the the embassy.

It depends on the country. If the country states it needs a flight itinerary, you can use option 3.
